Michael Anthony: "I Wasn't Invited For VH Reunion"
Former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony has released the following update:
"I want to thank everyone for all the support you've shown me during the past months. It's all been pretty crazy, and I just wanted to bring you all up to speed.
"A lot of you have been asking about the upcoming VAN HALEN tour and my response to it. It's not that I'm not touring with VAN HALEN because I'm going out with Sammy [Hagar; former VAN HALEN frontman]. I'm going out with Sammy because I was not invited to do the VH tour. Sammy told me that if I was asked to be part of the VH tour and decided to do it, it would be totally cool, and it would not tarnish our friendship in the least!! Well, it's not to be, and life goes on. I'll still be out there with Sam, and I can't wait to do some partying with all of you.
"One last note from myself to all the VAN HALEN fans out there who will be attending their shows... Wolfgang [Van Halen, new VAN HALEN bassist and Eddie Van Halen's son] is a great kid, so don't judge him too harshly. I'm sure he'll do just fine!!"
A furor erupted online last week after photos of Anthony at the band's official web site were either removed or replaced by an image of guitarist Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang, who will play bass on the group's upcoming tour. The photos were restored less than two days later.
VAN HALEN announced the details of its long-awaited reunion tour with original singer David Lee Roth on August 13. The tour kicks off on September 27 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Pre-recorded tapes will reportedly be used to recreate Anthony's backing vocals on the tour.

I give this tour less than one month and all of the reasons that the VH parted with DLR will come to light again. Dave's ego is just too big. It will be all about him and no one else. My money says there will be no CD, no further tours and this will be the end of VH. What a shame!
Michael Anthony was the heart and soul of VH. DLR was right, this is a new band. It is just a shame they are using the old name! They will be a decent cover band that just happens to play music from the first six VH Albums!!!
Save your money and go and See Sammy and Mike!

Um, djdave, think for a second... think about the name of the band in question. How could it possibly be a new band, just because they don't have Anthony in their line-up? If anything, the band is even MORE Van Halen now with another member sporting that last name. Calling them a cover band is just stupid. You'd have more luck saying that when Hagar was singing. Then it might actually make sense.

Well I've tickets to the Chicago (United Center) show, so I hope they can make it that long. I was a BIG fan them in their prime (1980-81), but lost it when Sammy joined the band, so I have hopes for THIS reunion. At the press conference it seemed like everyone had their s**t together. It seems like most of the egos between Eddie and DLR have eased some (Dave didn't try to dominate the spotlight and turn it into a complete circus! I do think throwing Wolfie out there is going to be ALOT for the kid (no matter how good his dad says he is!). I hate to hear their going to pipe Mike's vocals in (thats going to kill alot of the spontaniety for what VH as a bad was so good at!) I think it's a money and fame thing for Dave, were else could he make this much jack? There is a whole new generation who doesn't know who Diamond Dave is and he's not ready to hang it up yet, so lets hope we see the Dave with something to prove and maybe that keeps him in line (or at least on the edge were he's his best) I think for Ed, he knows everyone has wanted this for a long time, and his best music was with VH 1. I think it was a good sign for him to go into rehab and get his act together so he can "give everyone his best" because as we all know, he's the glue. If this a paint by numbers concert and they do the same set list every night, its probably HAPPY TRAILS but IF they can make it work and record some new music next year as planned- it will be one of the great comebacks in Rock and Roll! Time will tell.

This is just stupid old Van Halen sh** again. You can't do it with out Mike. I wish the kid the best but I want the original line up or nothing for me. I give it a month before Ed freaks out with Diamond Dave. Kansas City show maybe but happy trails to you until we meet again....
