Deadsoil Replaces Drummer

Deadsoil (Lifeforce Records) drummer Christian Bass has announced his departure from the band. Bass has subsequently been replaced by Hartmut Stoof, formerly of Symbiontic. Here's a statement from the band:

"Well, some of you might have heard the rumors that Christan Bass decided to leave the band, and yes its true! For us as well as for him, it wasn't an easy decision but we all have to move on with our visions and future plans. We wish him all the best in his future! And for all the people out there, we are sorry. No trouble, no hard feelings nothing for you to bitch about! Christian's spot will be filled by Hartmut Stoof, former drummer of metalband Symbiontic. He already helped us out on several shows as well as on the tour we did together with Ill-Disposed in 2006. We are glad to have such an effective and motivated replacement."

Meanwhile, Bass has issued the following:

"Yes, the rumors have been true and I will play my final Deadsoil show this Sunday at the Essen Original Festival in Essen, together with Hatesphere, Dew-Scented, Japanische Kampfhörspiele, Volbeat and more. Surely this decision wasn't easy but I felt that I have to move on and start to work on some music that I have in mind for a long time. I am sorry, but there is no bad blood and no shit-talking. All I can do is to wish the guys all the best for the upcoming time... Check out and add my new band White Eyes here. (we will have a video and 3 demo tracks online soon). Thanks to everyone I met during the last 5 years in Deadsoil and I gonna meet soon with White Eyes!"

Opeth Announce The Roundhouse Tapes Fall Release

Peaceville Records is proud to announce the forthcoming release by one of the metal world's greatest acts.

"The Roundhouse concert will always be a very memorable gig for us for many reasons, but most importantly it caught the band at the peak of the "Ghost Reveries" tour. I must say we're quite tight after 18 odd months on the road supporting the record. I'm extremely pleased we got it documented and I hope it will please our beloved fans as well. As an extra bonus we've decided to collaborate with one of our past labels for this release, the legendary Peaceville Records. Here's a toast to Hammy and Lisa for helping us back in the day as well as to the new team for preserving this pleasurable memory for today's music lovers as well as for generations to come." – Mikael Åkerfeldt

'The Roundhouse Tapes' contains a captivating Opeth performance from the Camden Roundhouse, London, UK, on November 9th, 2006 (a gig which also featured Goth metal legends Paradise Lost), and sees the band in scintillating form churning out a selection of classics from their illustrious career. You know what to expect from Opeth: unrivalled composition; seamless progressive dynamics and boundless atmosphere from the mellow to the incredibly heavy, all sealed with the unmistakable vocal presence of mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt.

Since their formation in 1990 in Sweden, Opeth has risen to the forefront of the metal world over the years; bringing many aspects of progressive rock/metal to a whole new audience by combining soft acoustic ambience with complex, melodic & heavy guitar often familiar to forms of death/black metal, perfectly concocted into a completely peerless sound. A constant factor of their success is that the band have never been afraid to experiment with their song-writing ever since their debut album, 'Orchid', in 1994, all the while taking us through some truly magical & hypnotic soundscapes over the years.

Atreyu Post New Song Online

ATREYU's new song "Doomsday", has been posted on the band's MySpace page. The track comes off the group's new album, "Lead Sails Paper Anchor", due on August 28 via Hollywood Records. The band is currently previewing select songs from the highly anticipated album during the Family Values Tour, where ATREYU is sharing the stage with KORN, HELLYEAH and EVANESCENCE, among others.

ATREYU recorded "Lead Sails Paper Anchor" this spring with producer John Feldmann (THE USED, GOOD CHARLOTTE) who worked with the band to create their most infectious, ambitious and musically challenging disc yet. While the band's juxtaposition of hardcore-influenced chaos and rock-influenced melody is still present, the gulf between the two styles is diminished, making the passages flow in a smoother and more naturalistic manner. "Lead Sails Paper Anchor" was mixed by Andy Wallace (NIRVANA, SLIPKNOT, LINKIN PARK). More...

SOAD Frontman To Film 'Praise The Lord' Video

System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian will film a video for his solo track "Praise The Lord, Pass The Ammunition" on Monday, August 27 in Hollywood, California with director Greg Watermann (Mudvayne, Lamb of God). According to a MySpace bulletin from Watermann, "The story is a wacky art-performance, starring [Serj's] brother Sevag. He's the MC for the controversy happening on stage while hardcore fans are losing their minds in the audience."

Greg continued, "We need all kinds of people and all ages for this video, everything from the choir to the mosh pit. And yes, you'll get to hear the song — it's amazing. Serj says it's the craziest song on the disc... that's why he gave it to me. We'll be limiting it to the first 100 guys and 100 girls who send us their information. It's going to be out of control."

To participate in the video shoot, send your name, telephone number and MySpace URL to serjvideo@gregwatermann.com.

Serj Tankian's solo debut, "Elect the Dead", will be releasd on October 23 through Serjical Strike/Reprise.

Brutal Truth Begin Work On New Material

Reunited seminal grindcore / extreme metal outfit BRUTAL TRUTH have begun writing for a new full-length album. The troupe has crafted six brand new songs so far, each one faster and more brutal than the one before it.

BRUTAL TRUTH’s Danny Lilker elaborates: “We have 6 new songs in varying stages of evolution that are shaping up to be some of the most intense shit we’ve ever written. After 8 years it feels damn good to write some really psychotic grind, and we’ve jumped right into the deep end of the pool. Stylistically it seems to pick up where Sounds of the Animal Kingdom left off with the main difference being we’re also incorporating some of the old school type riffing from Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses but at a much faster tempo. We’ll keep you posted as things develop!”

BRUTAL TRUTH drummer Rich Hoak adds: “Help, I just can’t stop playing faster and faster and faster and faster!!! My arms are gonna fall off of my body!! Totally psyched for total fucking grind!!!”

BRUTAL TRUTH recently wrapped up a Summer European headlining tour that included a number of festival appearances (Hellfest, Graspop, Trashfest, Obscene Extreme, and more). The band says of the shows: “We’d like to thank every last freak that came out to see us at the European shows we did in June and July, it was an awesome tour thanks to you. Special thanks would go to Curby and crew from the Obscene Extreme Festival for welcoming us with grinding enthusiasm! Lookout for more BRUTAL TRUTH live shows to be announced soon!!”

Clawfinger Post 'Prisoners' Video Online

CLAWFINGER's video for the song "Prisoners" has been posted online and can be viewed here. The track comes off the Swedish rap/metal combo's new album, "Life Will Kill You", which entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 89.

On the topic of the new CD's lyrical direction, frontman Zak Tell recently said, "Paedophilia, addiction, death, suicide bombers, self-esteem issues and misers are a few of the topics I've chosen to write about this time around. Not very uplifting stuff, I guess, but hey that's just me and it's not as if I actually plan it, it just happens, I promise! There are a few positive lyrics as well so it's not all gloom, doom and troubled thoughts. A majority of the tracks are though.

"Anyway, I guess there are a few different reasons as to why I chose to write about the stuff I do, the logical one being that the music we play is of a slightly aggressive nature and therefore inspires darker lyrics, although that's not entirely true as we also have softer and less serious songs and I sometimes also break free from the given formula. Most of the time I don't, though, out of fear of getting lost! The second reason is that it's simply my outlet for all the less pleasant things that go through my head. My everyday life is fairly normal and family-orientated so to get some sort of balance I use CLAWFINGER as my frustration ventilator or whatever you want to call it! More...
