Dark Empire Sign To Killzone Records

KillZone Records is extremely proud to announce that it is to sign New Jersey based thrash/prog/metal act Dark Empire for the release of the band's second album 'Humanity Dethroned' for release in North America and European territories. The release of 'Humanity Dethroned' is set for November.

Formed by Matt Moliti (lead and rhythm guitars, death vocals) in 2004, the current band includes Jens Carlsson (Savage Circus, Persuader) lead vocals, Andrew Atwood (lead, rhythm guitar, death vocals) and Samus (Suspyre, Mutiny) drums. Influenced by Symphony X and Rage, Moliti created Dark Empire to be what in his eyes would be the epitome of the perfect metal band: thrashy riffs, blazing solos and aggressive yet melodic vocals, full of energy and emotion.

Dark Empire are no stranger to success this early in their career. The band self released their debut album 'Distant Tides' placed 2 in the year end "best indie release of 2006" list), in BW&BK magazine scoring an impressive 9.5/10 and achieving rave reviews in the industry press and was eventually picked up Rock Machine Records in Brazil. 'Humanity Dethroned will be mastered by Mikka Jussla at Finnvox Studios (Children Of Bodom, Nightwish).

Nine Inch Nails' Current Touring Lineup To Disband

NINE INCH NAILS mainman Trent Reznor has told StarBulletin.com that the group's current incarnation will disband after the final show of its current tour on Tuesday (September 18) in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Although Reznor's touring band of drummer Josh Freese, guitarist Aaron North, bassist Jeordie White and keyboardist Alessandro Cortini are excellent support players, "at this point, I want to switch things around a bit," he said. "NINE INCH NAILS as a rock band configuration, we've done it and we've done it again. I see other ways I can present the material in concert, more challenging, something new. I don't want it to go stale."

This group has toured together for two years, he said. "It's a well-rounded concert, a good collection of songs from different records."

Much of the buzz surrounding NINE INCH NAILS' latest album, "Year Zero", was created by an imaginative marketing scheme that exploited the Internet to its fullest. "It's the right medium for the content of this record," Reznor explained. "There are too many limitations that record labels use for artists. It's the old business model. With the Internet, everyone's a publisher, and it's kind of liberating to be able to write on my Web site, uncensored, for better or worse."

Sanctuary's Record Label To Close

Reuters reports that the recorded music division of Sanctuary Music Group is to close, its new owner Universal Music said on Wednesday, as it looks to develop the firm's merchandising, catalogue and management businesses instead.

Universal, which bought the struggling music group for 44.5 million pounds in August, said the recorded division, which has artists such as THE CHARLATANS and BRIAN WILSON and in the past featured such metal artists as Megadeth and Iron Maiden, would no longer operate as a standalone front-line label.

The Sanctuary Records U.S. unit will continue to operate as it is for now but this could be reviewed at a later date.

Universal announced its purchase of Sanctuary in June to develop new revenue streams such as merchandising and artist management as traditional income from the sale of CDs and digital music continues to wane.

Baksh: "I've Been Playing Metal All Of My Life"

Guitarist Dave "Brownsound" Baksh recently spoke to Canada's Dose.ca about his decision to quit multi-platinum pop-punk act SUM 41 and focus on his "fist-pumping, vocal-grumbling, balls-to-the-walls metal" side project BROWN BRIGADE.

"Honestly, I really did get really thankless and I still feel like and asshole for it," Baksh explains of time he decided to leave SUM 41. "Because you're up there — and no matter what, no matter who you're dealing with, no matter what country you're in — somebody wants to take something from you. If you really let that get to you and not realize that's what your fucking job is, then it is going to get under your skin and reach down into your soul. But I kind of realized after the period I've had off and just at the end of the time that I had with SUM 41 that you can't really just sit there and feel sorry for yourself...You have to make the best time on this Earth that you can."

While Baksh wasn't able to showcase his impressive axe-slaying skills to their full extent while playing in SUM 41, with BROWN BRIGADE, he's able to exploit his nimble solo-shredding skills to their full capacity. The band, which also features Baksh's cousin, Vaughn Lal, on bass, will debut its full-length release, "Record Into the Mouth of Badd(d)ness", on Tuesday (Sept. 18).

"It's weird. I've not only wanted to play metal my entire life — I've been playing metal all of my life," he relates. "Whenever I was practicing off stage [with SUM 41], it would be to heavy metal."

Centralia Post Two Live Videos, Give Update

Trenton metal bashers Centralia posted some live videos from a show in Philadelphia, and gave an update on the recording situation via their myspace blog:

So the summer is gone huh?

Well it has been a productive one for us over here in Centralia. We have been writing all summer and are inching closer to having enough new shit to put together an album.

After a 3 month hibernation from playing we were asked by our good friends in Spur if we would hit up good ol Whiskey Dix in Philly with them. We obliged and those that made it out were treated to 2 new songs!! Our wonderful and hard-working friend Drew was nice enough to take the trip with us and film the whole set. He was then nice enough to put them up on YouTube. Please excuse the subpar sound, but the videos had to be compressed to fit on YouTube therfore sacrificing audio and video quality. The actual uncompressed video of the entire set is planning to be released as part of a future DVD.

Enjoy and we are back in playing mode so we will be seeing you all REAL soon!

Gene Hoglan To Drum On 'Apocalypse Plow'

The Atomic Clock himself posted yet another update on his myspace blog:

Howdy everybody!

As some of you may already be aware, my good buddy, Mr. Plow, has enlisted myself and a host of others (Norwood Fisher, Rocky George, Oderus Urungus, et al.) to play on his upcoming disc, "APOCALYPSE PLOW". For those of you who aren't aware, Mr. Plow is a solo acoustic artiste who specializes in a down home pornographic punk-c&w-comedy hybrid that is bound to melt all your little hearts.

He is also currently involved in a "Gong Show"-type contest up in Vancouver, and happens to be trailing in score just behind a woman who is a burlesque stripper. How do you compete with a woman who takes her clothes off? Especially if you're Plow?

Well, that's where we all come in. If I could graciously ask any interested parties to please go to YouTube and check out this URL, and please leave a comment on the YouTube page, good, bad or indifferent.

Any comments left go towards a sort of 'extra credit' portion of the grading, which actually factor in quite importantly to the overall score.
Mr Plow stands to win $20,000 if he wins this thing, and if he does win, he's going to invest every penny into an actual tour with myself, Norwood and Rocky. And as we all know, touring is one expensive proposition, even at it's cheapest and grimiest. And although 'cheap' and 'grimy' are two highly appealing words to all of us, he's still gotta win to even have a prayer of touring this latest disc with his 'All-Star Cast of High-Dollar Buffoons'.

Thanks for your time and effort, people!

When we started to track vocals for our new 4-song demo and realized quite quickly that something was missing. With full support from Melissa Cross and the major labels interested in us, whoever we choose will be in good hands.

Serj Tankian Talks About Album Process

The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) reports: Since he played almost every instrument on his debut solo album by himself, SYSTEM OF A DOWN singer Serj Tankian told The Pulse of Radio that his biggest challenge was making the record, titled "Elect The Dead", sound like there was a band playing on it. "That was the trick really, because usually with bands, you tend to record the drums first and then overlay everything on top of it," he said. "Since I was doing this mostly by myself, I kind of had to go the other route. The arrangement kind of just worked, and when I listened to it at the end I'm like, 'God, it sounds like the drums were there from the beginning. That's neat!'"

"Elect The Dead" arrives on October 23. The first single is "Empty Walls".

Tankian did enlist SYSTEM drummer John Dolmayan and former GUNS N' ROSES and PRIMUS drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia to play on the album. Mantia will also be part of Tankian's touring band.

Tankian begin his first solo tour on October 12 in Chicago, finishing up on October 28 in San Francisco.

Former Great White Tour Manager To Be Released

The Associated Press reports that the band manager whose pyrotechnics ignited a nightclub fire that killed 100 people is granted parole. The parole board says Daniel Biechele will be released in March after serving less than half of his four-year sentence.

Board chairwoman Lisa Holley says yesterday's decision was unanimous. Biechele pleaded guilty last year to 100 counts of involuntary manslaughter for the 2003 fire in West Warwick. He was working for the rock band GREAT WHITE when he ignited the blaze.

Holley says the board considered things such as risk of reoffending, plans for life after prison and letters received from victims' families. Some relatives of those killed say they think Biechele deserves to get out early, while others are unhappy with the decision.

Attorney General Patrick Lynch says he disagrees with the parole board, but respects the decision.

"The Kiss of Dawn" is the first HIM single in four years that has not made it to the Top 40 in Britain. So far the love-metal band's highest UK entries have been with "Solitary Man," which went in at number nine in 2004, and "Wings of a Butterfly," which was ranked tenth on its release in 2005.

"The Kiss of Dawn" is a cut from HIM's new album Venus Doom, which was also released at the beginning of this week in most European markets.

On the more specified UK Top 40 Rock Singles Chart, on the other hand, HIM made it to #1. The band took over the top position from another Finnish group, Nightwish, whose "Amaranth" single now slips down to number two.
