Clawfinger Frontman Reflects On Azkena Festival

CLAWFINGER frontman Zak Tell has posted this message on the band's official website:

"We survived, just barely! Of course it turned out to be a pain in the ass as expected, nine hours, four airports, three flights, one crew member short, a broken guitar and two smashed guitar cases, too much beer and not enough sleep all contributed to grumpiness and dissatisfaction, arriving at the (Azkena Rock) festival only 50 minutes before the show didn't help much either! Just to make things worse we also paid nearly 600 euro in overweight, yipiiii! Furthermore I managed to break my microphone cable (sort of on purpose!) and drop the mic on Bård's guitar pedal, turning it off, exactly at the same time as André's bass bummed out, leaving Jocke and Henka as the only two members actually creating any noise on stage for about 10 seconds! From what we'd heard we were also supposed to be playing the next best slot of the evening and there was apparently a press conference planned. Well we played a 45-minute set at 17:45 and there wasn't a journalist in sight!!!

Anyway regardless of what happens to us before and afterwards the show must go on and once you see the happy smiling faces in the audiences you tend to forget all the shit you've been through earlier and it was a fun crowd. People seemed to be having a really good time and you could smell the sweet scent of marijuana in the air everywhere! It was kind of early in the evening and I think quite a few people probably saw us for the first time as we don't visit Spain very frequently anymore but I also know that there were some old Clawheads there cos' I could see those fuckers singing their hearts out! Anyway thank you all for rockin' out with us! It was a nice festival, the weather was good and the vibe was relaxed! Henka and me went out into the crowd after the show and checked out the different stands selling t-shirts and stuff and people were coming up to us asking to take photos which means we must have done something right.

We stayed on for quite a while, I saw a bit of Mooney Suzuki and we hung around in the Gibson bus and the backstage area drinking beers but in the end we realized how tired we really were after haven gotten up at 04:00 in the morning to make the first flight! Also we knew that we had 10 more hours, three flights and four airports on the way back the next day as well so we decided to make our way to the hotel to get some sleep. Of course Jocke and I ended up sitting in my room drinking beer and talking until about 02:00 which only left us with five hours to sleep. Anyway, but hey that's nothing new, it seems like we never learn... I guess cos' we don't want to."

AC/DC Box Set Tracklisting Revealed

Columbia Records will release "Plug Me In" — the ultimate career-spanning DVD box set of live performances, interviews and more from AC/DC, the world's most electrifying rock and roll band — on Tuesday, October 16.

The first AC/DC release since the band came to Columbia Records earlier this year, the AC/DC "Plug Me In" DVD collection brings together for the very first time an astonishing five hours of definitive live concert and television performances — many of them previously unavailable — chronicling the ongoing career (now in its fourth decade!) of a groundbreaking rock and roll powerhouse whose music transcends the test of time.

"AC/DC has delivered the most dynamic rock and roll music in the world," said Steve Barnett, Chairman, Columbia Records. "Columbia is honored to be releasing this definitive career-spanning retrospective featuring many of AC/DC's finest filmed performances."

Disc One of the AC/DC "Plug Me In" DVD collection begins with a performance of "High Voltage" performed in October 1975 on Australia's "King of Pop" awards show. The first disc of "Plug Me In" is devoted to the band's formative years (1975-1979) with the late Bon Scott capturing the group in its full early glory with more than 20 performances including rare black-and-white video footage of the notorious St. Albans High School concert on March 3, 1976; the very first UK television appearance in July 1976; pristine live full-color stereo concert performances from Glasgow and Essex University in 1978; and three songs — including the very first public performance of "Highway To Hell" — from Netherlands television in 1979. Bonus material on Disc One includes a Bon Scott interview from November 1977; extraordinary band interviews from 1976; and four songs recorded live in Nice on December 15, 1979, one of Bon Scott's last concerts with the band before his tragic death on February 19, 1980.

Disc Two of the AC/DC "Plug Me In" DVD collection covers the band's second great epoch: the Brian Johnson era which began with the release of "Back In Black" in 1980 and continues to this day. In addition to more than 20 performances drawn from three decades of concerts around the world — including an extremely rare Japanese television appearance from February 1981, blistering '80s and '90s sets from Detroit to Moscow, incredible footage from 1996's "Ballbreaker" tour (including the "Beavis & Butthead" intro), and 21st century barnburners in Paris, Munich, and Toronto — "Plug Me In" includes a fantastic array of bonus material including the AC/DC Donnington interview on the "Old Grey Whistle Test" (August 1984) and AC/DC's in-concert performance of "Rock Me Baby" with THE ROLLING STONES.

A deluxe collector's edition of "Plug Me In" — containing a third DVD of 21 additional rare performances spanning both the Bon Scott and Brian Johnson eras as well as a treasure trove of facsimile reproductions of authentic AC/DC memorabilia — will also be available for a limited time beginning Tuesday, October 16.

Formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young (still the most formidable electric guitar team in rock), AC/DC released its first album, "High Voltage", in 1975. The group has gone on to sell nearly 70 million albums in the U.S. alone, making AC/DC one of the five best-selling bands in American music history. The "Back In Black" album has achieved RIAA double diamond status, for sales in excess of 21 million copies in the United States, and is the U.S.'s fifth largest-selling album ever.

AC/DC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

Led Zeppelin Announcement Expected Next Week

Billboard.com has issued the following report from Ray Waddell:

Talk of a LED ZEPPELIN reunion just refuses to go away.

Billboard reported in July that the band may get together for a proposed tribute to the late producer/record mogul Ahmet Ertegun at the O2 in London in November,

Now on Ledzeppelin.com the date 11.13.07 mysteriously appears with the familiar Zep symbols. And several people saw the band touring the O2 during Prince's recent stand at the new 20,000-seat London venue. A press conference next Wednesday (September 12th) in London may clear everything up.

There has been talk that tour producers AEG Live and Michael Cohl's CPI (ROLLING STONES, GENESIS) have put in offers on a Zep tour featuring founding members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones with late drummer John Bonham's son Jason on drums. But it is also well known in the industry that standing offers have been on the table for a Led Zeppelin tour for more than a decade.

Hatebreed Frontman Talks Ozzfest And New DVD

Pete Richards of ChartAttack.com recently conducted an interview with HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

On playing this year's Ozzfest:

"These shows have been the best shows of our career. Some days they chant HATEBREED 20 minutes before we go on, and then even during the set. It's great. Our signings are packed every day. It's just been insane. We didn't expect this nice of a welcome back."

"Five years [straight of playing Ozzfest]. We needed to come back and do the second stage and close the second stage because playing the main stage alienated some of our diehard fans who don't have the $50 to come see us or don't want to see us from 2,000 feet away on the lawn. It was great. We won over a lot of people who had maybe seen our logo before but didn't know what we were about, but we can't do it next year. We need to do something different."

On HATEBREED's upcoming DVD:

"After years of compiling footage and trying to give all the past members their dues and trying to give each era of the band its due, we want to make sure it's a proper documentary that shows just how it turned into this movement all over the world. We want to show the development in Japan, the explosion in Europe, where these past two records have been the biggest records of our career. Show the first five years and how we used to play to 10 people in a back yard, or a hall and at bars, and then show going to the Grammys and walking the red carpet."

On Jasta's new Hatewear clothing line:

"It just takes initiative and time, and it's not easy. People want to support the music. People want to support the bands. The more items we make, the more they sell. We just made basketball shorts. They sold like crazy. We just made sweatpants. They sold like crazy. With Hatewear, if you don't want to wear a band's logo, you can wear something else. People download the music so much, the clothes are what sells. You can't download a T-shirt or pair of shorts."

Usurper Call It A Day

Chicago's USURPER has issued the following update:

"After 13 and a half years, five studio albums and hundreds of concerts in 17 different countries around the world, USURPER has come to an end. Everyone in USURPER would like to thank their die-hard fans and friends for over a decade of metal insanity! This decision was very hard for the members of the band, but as the saying goes, 'all things must come to an end'.

"Although the decision to end USURPER wasn't easy, it was the right thing to do. Unfortunately, between member changes, label issues and lack of communication between the remaining band members, now was the time to nail up the USURPER coffin so to speak.

The official MySpace page will still be maintained and we will try to keep everyone updated on what the remaining band members are up to. Rick [Scythe; guitar/vocals] has started a new band called NIGHTSHADE and Jon [Necromancer; bass/vocals] and Chris [Carcass Chris; 'ead gitar] will also pursue other musical outlets. Be sure to check this MySpace page in the near future, for news about such musical endeavors."

USURPER's fifth full-length album, "Cryptobeast", was released in 2005 via Earache Records. The follow-up to 2003's "Twilight Dominion" was recorded at Chicago's Rax Trax Studios with producer Neil Kernon (JUDAS PRIEST, DEICIDE, CANNIBAL CORPSE).

Dino Cazares Claims Fear Factory Missing Passion

MTV.com reports that former FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares' new band DIVINE HERESY has only played a few live shows together but plans to kick off its first tour this month in Mexico. After that, DIVINE HERESY will head out with STATIC-X and SHADOWS FALL for a tour that runs through much of the fall and early winter. Then they'll join CHIMAIRA on the road for a trek that will keep them busy until Christmas. In early 2008, the band will head back out on the road, but the guitarist didn't reveal with whom. Cazares said the band does plan on playing some FEAR FACTORY material during its sets — even though he has no love for his former band.

"In the long run, I believe I came out the winner, and I feel that they have bastardized the name, and it's a completely different band, different style," he said of the group, which is carrying on despite Cazares' departure in 2002. "I definitely carried the passion in that band, and my riffs, my style, they were very distinctive. I don't regret anything I created in FEAR FACTORY whatsoever. It will be part of my memory for the rest of my life. I believe I am continuing the legacy and keeping this metal torch alive and bringing it back with DIVINE HERESY. You can feel the hunger and passion in DIVINE HERESY, which I believe FEAR FACTORY has been missing, and is still missing to this day.

"DIVINE HERESY will be a band that will develop into something even greater, the more input these guys have and the more we all start playing together, and the more we get out on the road, living it, breathing for it," he continued. "I think the sophomore LP will be something massive."

Bonded By Blood Sign with Earache Records

New-School LA Thrashers Bonded In Blood have signed a record deal with Earache Records. Hailing from Los Angeles this 5 piece, with an average age of only 18, are here to show the world how they see the path of New-School Thrash metal. With virtuoso-like guitar playing courtesy of Alex Lee and a blazing drum assault, BONDED BY BLOOD are gearing up to wow Metal fans across the globe with a youthful power-packed punch.

Formed in 2005, all members are such massive Exodus fans, that the band took their name from the title of the debut classic Exodus album, though ironically none of the band were even born when that album first hit the racks in 1985.

Musically, their influences come from most of the Old-school Thrash acts (Exodus, Metallica, Slayer, Testament, etc) but BONDED BY BLOOD add a youthful energy and a fun element as well as their own twist on the two decade old genre. The band focus as fervently on song structure and composition as they do on making every riff, vocal line and drum pattern a memorable, heartfelt shredder.

The band self-released a 6 track EP 'Extinguish The Weak' barely a few weeks ago in August 2007, resulting in inking a long-term contract with Earache Records.

Vocalist Aladdin has this to say on the signing: "We are thrilled to be part of the Earache family -its overwhelming!! Municipal Waste, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Evile and now BONDED BY BLOOD! Next step is taking over the world!"

The debut Bonded By Blood Album will be released on Earache early 2008.

You can check out some of BONDED BY BLOOD's material on their Myspace page. Read an exclusive interview with Bonded By Blood here.
