Ancient Rites Cancel North American Tour

ANCIENT RITES mainman Gunther Theys has issued the following update:

"ANCIENT RITES were approached to tour the USA/Canada during winter. We agreed on the terms. Many dates were booked. The word was spread. The band kept the dates free and prepared for the tour.

"One day we received a mail from the original promoter, who said he would hand the tour over to someone with more contacts. We received this mail from the new promoter who stepped in, terms were changed. Understandable from their point of view:

'The problem is, the promises that John made to you will not be possible, as we will not be receiving enough money from the venues to secure those arrangements. Most bands who tour in the U.S. for the first time will lose money — they pay for their own plane tickets (or get tour support from their label to cover them), and the guarantee money per night is used for vehicle rental and gas.

'I would like ANCIENT RITES to remain a part of this package, and here is what I am able to offer. Most importantly, I cannot pay for plane tickets. There are no booking agents in this country who offer to pay for flights — and generally the labels are responsible for supporting their bands with this cost, otherwise the members pay for their own flights.'

"Since we have no management, and the label doesn't pay tour support and we don't have the money ourselves, we cannot come over.

"That's the tragedy of underground bands. There is no $$$ to support bands like us. We all had taken unpaid leave from work but if we now also must pay to play we cannot afford it. The world belongs to acts with business men behind them who invest cash. That is the reality, also in metal. It won't keep us from fighting, though.

"Sorry to bring you this bad news. We don't point finger at anyone, these are the simple facts. The original promoter was guided by idealism but the plan failed, the second one was realistic. It is a pity our American and Canadian fans now will not have a chance to see us and we regret first steps were taken by the tour agency creating a hope in our minds. That is why I always state that all in this music industry, be it MADONNA or metal, comes down to money. Hopefully one day we can make it but we are not willing to change our style or lyrics to attract business men willing to invest. ANCIENT RITES never has been about that. This battle is lost but the war is never over.

"From the trenches I greet you all, with unbroken spirit."

ANCIENT RITES's latest album, "Rubicon", was released in May 2006 via Season of Mist. The follow-up to 2001's "Dim Carcosa" was recorded at the Spacelab Studio in Germany under the watchful eye of veteran ANCIENT RITES producers Oliver Phillips and Christian Moos.

The Scarlet Hourglass Disband

Unfortunately it seems the promising young British death metal act The Scarlet Hourglass have decided to call it a day. The band were rapidly gaining popularity among the UK scene. Members Greg, Dayve and Gavin had left the band to take part in the reformation of their former band Morbid Remains. Their gig on the 21st at Swindon's Furnace club will obviously no longer feature them (neither as headliners as scheduled or otherwise). Morbid Remains, Democide and In Numbers We Wait are still scheduled to perform on the date.

Download An MP3 of Mower's "Road Rage"

San Diego based MOWER has posted a free download of the song “Road Rage” online. The track has been picking up steam on Satellite radio and was recently added into rotation on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Hard Attack with Jose Mangin.

“As a Hard Attack listener and New Yorker, it’s very cool to hear it getting played on Sirius. We’re an underground band, so it’s great to see people getting dialed in to what we’re doing without massive promotions or festival touring and all that,” says Brian Sheerin, one of MOWER’s two frontmen. “The fact “Not For You” is still finding new fans tells you we’re not the only ones who like more than one style of music. We wanted our album to hold people’s attention with every song and offer the same intensity and transitions we bring to the table live.”

Fans can request MOWER’s “Road Rage” on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Hard Attack here.

MOWER, who just returned from a successful trek with (HED) P.E., shot a video for "Road Rage" with director Dale Resteghini (HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL) that has received airplay on MTV's "Headbanger's Ball." The video can be viewed online here.

“’Road Rage’ was the one track everyone including the band, producer Mikey Doling (Snot, Soulfly) and our engineer Brad Djumovic (Invitro) felt strongest about right away,” says Sheerin. “People are feeling the song because it gets right to the point of a global phenomenon. Every driver in every city has lost it behind the wheel at one point or another. Traffic turns the nicest people into animals. We get a lot of emails from fans telling us they listen to the song whenever they drive, which probably isn’t helping the situation much.”

Even a year after its release Mower’s sophomore album, “Not For You,” is still winning over new fans. The album was recently nominated for a 2007 San Diego Music Award in the "Best Hard Rock" category.

Mower recently announced the dates for their upcoming tour with Twiztid. The tour will kick off September 25th in Cleveland, OH and will end November 12th in Detroit, MI at St. Andrews Hall.

Here are the latest MOWER tour dates featuring TWIZTID: More...

Dir En Grey To Return To The U.K. In November

Japanese rock phenomenon DIR EN GREY will return to London to headline a concert at The Shepherds Bush Empire on Friday, November 2.

After two hugely successful shows at London's Islington Academy, DIR EN GREY return to the U.K. to headline this year's Fuse 07 (a unique and innovative gaming and music festival) event. Over 2,000 hardcore music and gaming fans will join a host of stars to pack out the legendary Shepherds Bush Empire to witness the best of the country’s unsigned bands in a genuine festival atmosphere. Fuse 07 is the only event in the world that has successfully melded the worlds of hard rock and hardcore gaming into one festival style event.

The Japanese rockers are looking forward to being a part of such a unique event.

"When we played at the Carling Academy last August it was the first time we were ever in London as a band," the group said in a statement. "Even so, we received an amazing welcome from the fans and we had a great show. We are more than thankful to all our fans and all the people involved for giving us the chance to return to the U.K. in just three months."

“We are honoured to be chosen as the headliner for the Fuse 07 event this year. It is first time for us to perform at an event that has a concept of not only music but also video games, so we are really excited to see the outcome!"

DIR EN GREY will also release a new single, "Dozing Green" in late October (worldwide release date to be confirmed). Previously unreleased, "Dozing Green" will give fans a chance to hear a brand new track with a brand new sound for the band.

"It took us a long session of trial and error before we came to the final version of 'Dozing Green'," the group said. "This track is definitely one that has both the new DIR EN GREY combined with elements that never was in our music. It is difficult to describe the new song in just one word, but I can assure you that this marks the first step towards the creation of our next album."

In other news, DIR EN GREY has been announced as special guests to LINKIN PARK at the following shows:

Nov. 23 – Tokyo, JPN @ Saitama Super Arena
Nov. 24 - Tokyo, JPN @ Saitama Super Arena

Thine Eyes Bleed Add More Canadian Dates

Canadian thrashers THINE EYES BLEED, who will release their sophomore release on The End Records on March 4th, 2008, have added more tour dates to their upcoming tour of across Canada and the United States.

Says singer Justin Wolfe, "We will be heading out on a small headline run through Canada and parts of the USA for October/November to start things up! We plan to debut our new material and have a good fuckin' time!! We are bringing along some great bands, come on down and here some good ol' heavy metal! Keep checkin' back for more dates."

About the new album, a few of the bandmembers have commented:

"This ain't your one-note-chug-along and dance to-gay-haircut metal. There is thought behind the music and passion behind the musicianship. Metal that isn't compromising or commercial. This is the real deal. All killer and no filler... no singing... no 'breakdowns'. Real metal for real metalers. Keep it brutal and stay heavy." - Johnny Araya, bassist

"We never really discussed the direction. We all just knew it had be honest, unrellenting, abusive, and evil. That is what metal was all about in our opinion. The outcome is violent and makes me smile from begining to end." - Jeff Phillips, guitarist

"We never set any direction for this album, we did it for ourselves... It's a much more focused album than our debut and it's going to show. It's an in your face metal album for the true metalheads out there.. the only way I can describe it is pure evil..." - Justin Wolfe, singer

The band re-released their 2005 debut for The End, entitled 'In The Wake Of Separation', in May of 2006. The CD included the bonus track 'Better off Dead' (previously available only in Japan) and the video for 'Cold Victim'. Also last year, the band took part in the mega-successful North American and European legs of the 2006 Unholy Alliance Tour, which featured SLAYER, CHILDREN OF BODOM, MASTODON and LAMB OF GOD.

Meshuggah Issues Statement About Tour Cancellation

To put their fans at ease, Meshuggah have made the following announcement on ther website (which is back up)

"We regrettably have to inform you that we have been forced to pull out of the November Euro tour with The Dillinger Escape Plan. There are several reasons for this. The main one being the fact that the album recording has taken longer than what was originally planned.

As an effect of that - NB has moved the album release to Jan/Feb of 2008.

In light of this we choose to not do a tour that could compromise the outcome of the album as well as possibly delaying the release even more.

Our intention was to have the album out in November and then do this as the first tour in direct support of the release. With this “album-promotional” aspect of the tour gone, we feel that we should instead focus on the most important thing at hand - the album!

We realize that this is a big disappointment to everyone who didn't have the opportunity to catch us on the European tour last summer but we will be back in 2008 touring the new album. Tourdates will be posted shortly!

Our apologies to the other bands on the bill and to all who already bought their tickets as well as those who were about to do so. The tickets are, of course, refundable.

/Meshuggah "

Led Zeppelin Reunion To Be One Night Only

According to NME.COM, LED ZEPPELIN will officially announce its reunion gig during a press conference on Wednesday, September 12 at the O2 Arena in London beginning at 4:00 p.m. BST.

Singer Robert Plant reportedly confirmed last week that the rumors about LED ZEPPELIN reforming were in fact true.

He explained that the band had a meeting about show on September 5 and said the reunion will be for one night only.

"There's not a lot to work out as it's only going to be one-off gig," he explained.

According to NME.COM, the show will be held at O2, possibly on November 26, and is a charity gig being organized by legendary promoter Harvey Goldsmith.

There has been talk that tour producers AEG Live and Michael Cohl's CPI (ROLLING STONES, GENESIS) have put in offers on a ZEPPELIN tour featuring founding members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones with late drummer John Bonham's son Jason on drums, according to Billboard.com. But it is also well known in the industry that standing offers have been on the table for a LED ZEPPELIN tour for more than a decade.

The Scourger Reveal New Album Details

THE SCOURGER, the brute thrash metal force from Helsinki, Finland are about to release their second full length studio album entitled Dark Invitation To Armageddon.

The recording of the album has been finalized and the finishing touches to the mix has been done by Pelle Saether at Studio Underground in Västerås, Sweden. Pelle's previous work includes, among others, such names as CARNAL FORGE and MILLENCOLLIN. During the Tuska Open Air Festival 2007, Pelle visited Finland to watch the band perfom live and this proved to be the start for a creative co-operation for the mixing process. Both band and engineer share the opinion, that the forthcoming disc will be the most brutal sounding thrash metal album that has ever been released by a Finnish metal band. Also some selected representatives of the media share this opinion, as they have been given the opportunity to listen to the album beforehand.

Joe Petagno, the artist behind the Motörhead logo and album art, has designed the cover artwork for The Scourger's new album. Mr Petagno has been very excited about creating artwork for the apocalyptic world that is part of The Scourger's vision. In the finished artwork Joe brought to life the vision of singer Jari Hurskainen like no artist has been able to do before. Joe Petagno's huge back catalogue of amazing artwork inludes such artists as ALICE COOPER, PINK FLOYD and LED ZEPPELIN.

The new single, 'Never Bury The Hatchet', released in Finland during the Tuska festival will now be available for the fans as an exclusive MySpace download during the period of September 10th-October 17th.

Prior to an extensive tour of Finland in support of the album the band will perform at Nosturi in Helsinki on the 5th of October together with BEFORE THE DAWN, PROFANE OMEN and AXEGRESSOR. More tour dates will follow shortly.

Disney Cancel Another Machine Head Show

The following message has been posted by Machine Head's official Myspace:

"In a not-so-stunning move, The Walt Disney Company have once again pressured promoter Live Nation into canceling Machine Head's performance at a House of Blues venue on Disney property, this time in Orlando, a mere four days after the band's previous announcement called out the corporation for their underhanded tactics regarding the cancellation of Friday's House of Blues Anaheim show on 2 days notice.

While no one is willing to provide evidence that would prove unfavorable to Disney, sources close to events have suggested that once again, vague threats of liability, and now threats on job security may have been levied, successfully resulting in the show being moved off of Disney property.

As a result, the September 17th show has now been relocated to Club Firestone in Orlando, FL (located at 578 N. Orange Ave). All existing tickets will be redeemable for entry at Club Firestone, all Will Call pickups will now be available for pickup at the new venue, and all refund requests will be honored.

As they are not on Disney property and therefore not subject to the corporation's alleged coercionary tactics, the Dallas, New Orleans, Cleveland and Chicago House of Blues shows will go on as scheduled.

On behalf of all four bands on the bill, Machine Head wish to again extend their gratitude to Live Nation and the House of Blues for their poise and tolerance during these absurd developments."

We have a new drummer now that we will be touring with, his name is Allen Royal."

According to SuperNova Records label owner (and Today Is The Day frontman) Steve Austin, "Complete Failure are the future of grind as we know it. Explosive and undeniable, this band is set to become an instant classic when their new record hits stores in 2008."

Complete Failure will record their debut album this fall at Austin Enterprise in Nashville, TN, with Steve Austin producing. The album will see a 2008 release on SuperNova Records. The band will be touring throughout 2008.
