Negativa Cancel Tour Dates
NEGATIVA, the Quebec-based band featuring former GORGUTS members Steeve Hurdle (guitar, vocals) and Luc Lemay (guitar, vocals), along with Etienne Gallo (drums, AUGURY) and Miguel Valade (bass, ex-ION DISSONANCE), has issued the following update:
"We're really disappointed to announce that we have to cancel the shows scheduled from August 1-3 in Toronto, Hamilton and London. The guitarist/vocalist Big Steeve Hurdle had a back injury on Sunday, and he should rest for at least one week. We were looking forward to do these shows because they were the very first ones for the band. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a little longer before to hit the stage for the first time. As of today, we have no fixed plans about rescheduling the three dates but we'll try to make it up for our Ontario fans before the end of the year if we can. Thanks for your understanding." More...

He served the CYPHER clan for three years. His last appearance with CYPHER will take place on Friday, September 7 at The Cave in Amsterdam.
Jerry's replacement in CYPHER will be Joost van der Graaf. Joost is probably best known for being the vocalist and bass player of CREEPMIME, one of Holland's leading metal bands of the mid-90s.
CYPHER's debut album, "Darkday Carnival", was released last October through Rusty Cage Records.

SUICIDE SILENCE shot a video for "The Price of Beauty" this past weekend with acclaimed director Matt Bass (THE ESOTERIC, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER). This was the first budgeted music video we'd ever done and we were very detailed in our approach." More...

"Anthony [Parker; guitar], Vincent [Kreyder; drums], Tom [Cesario; guitar, bass] and Max [Leclercq; vocals] have decided to leave FAIRYLAND and go on with their own project. The reasons for their departure have not been clearly expressed, and the way they handled the whole business, with direct announcement on FAIRYLAND's forum prior to any kind of discussion with Intromental Management, Napalm Records, Marquee Avalon, Burrn! Corporation or even me, was not very professional. However, it is their decision and I wish them all the luck they will need to make their new project break through. More...

SOAD Frontman Selects First Single From Solo Album
Launch Radio Networks reports: SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian has set "Empty Walls" as the first rock radio single from his debut solo album, "Elect The Dead". The track will make its way to stations on September 10. Another song, called "The Unthinking Majority", will surface a little earlier on college radio and metal specialty shows. The album itself will arrive on October 23 through Tankian's Serjical Strike label.
Tankian told Launch why it was the right time for him to step out on his own with a solo project. "We've been a band for 11 years, put out five records, and myself personally, I felt I needed to do other things," he said. "I've been wanting to put out a solo record for many, many years and it's not about just the vanity of putting out your own record kind of thing. It's more about having songs and having a vision and having a place to voice that. So I've been looking forward to doing that and it's making me really happy doing that right now."
Municipal Waste Bassist Talks About W.O.A.
U.S. crossover thrashers MUNICIPAL WASTE have expressed their excitement about playing this weekend's Wacken Open Air festival. The group is touring in support of its recent release "The Art of Partying", which is due in the U.S. on July 31.
Commented bassist LandPhil: "I don't think there could be anything more exciting than getting the honour of playing Wacken fest next weekend, it has been a dream of mine ever since I started playing metal! I am stoked to be sharing the stage with CANNIBAL CORPSE and IMMORTAL, among many other great bands. I know that I am going to be running around like crazy trying to see every band playing that day!"
The touring frenzy is due to hit the U.K. next week before the band embarks on show-stopping performances at this summer's Reading and Leeds festivals, delivering their mix of beer-bong, boogie-board, thrash-induced anthems.
The Black Dahlia Murder Post New Song Online
A brand new THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER track, entitled "What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse", has been posted on the group's MySpace page. The song comes off the band's new album, "Nocturnal", due on September 18 via Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2005's "Miasma" was recorded with Eric Rachel (who mixed "Miasma") and was mixed by Jason Suecof, who has previously worked with TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, DEVILDRIVER, GOD FORBID and BURY YOUR DEAD, among others. A video clip THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER performing a new song, entitled "Virally Yours", live at the Bled Fest 2007 on May 5 at the Skateland Complex in Westland, Michigan has posted at YouTube.
"Nocturnal" track listing:
01. Everything Went Black
02. What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse
03. Virally Yours
04. I Worship Only What You Bleed
05. Nocturnal
06. Deathmask Divine
07. Of Darkness Spawned
08. Climactic Degradation
09. To a Breathless Oblivion
10. Warborn
THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER vocalist Trevor Strnad told MTV.com in January that"Nocturnal" will be "definitely in the same vein as our older stuff. Nothing drastically changed. It's just more tasteful, and some of this new stuff will be faster than the last record. . . There's going to be a lot more soloing than we've done previously. This record's a bit more European-sounding, I think. More so than we already were, if you can imagine that. The solo stuff has a black metal-ish flavor to it. We messed around with that a little bit previously, but some of the songs have a major DISSECTION kind of feel to them."
Lyrically, Strnad said the record will be "more horror-oriented" than "Miasma". "As far as gore and death and stuff like that goes, I mean, that's all been done — into the ground," he said. "I am just trying to do something like that, but with my own flavor to it. There are still ways to repulse people out there — I just need to figure it all out."
THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER is also working on its first DVD release, which Strnad hopes will include footage documenting the making of the band's next record.
Ozzy Osbourne Undergoes Surgery
Denver's 9NEWS entertainment reporter Kirk Montgomery has confirmed Ozzy Osbourne had surgery at Rose Medical Center Saturday night (July 28).
The 59-year-old was in town for Ozzfest 2007, which took place at Coors Amphitheatre on Saturday.
Kirk reports that Osbourne was complaining of leg pain for most of the day. After the show, Osbourne was taken to Rose where he underwent surgery on his leg for a blood clot.
Osbourne was expected to be released from the hospital on Sunday. Kirk says wife Sharon was not travelling with him.
Osbourne has released 13 albums during his 20-year career with Epic Records. He won a Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2000 as a part of BLACK SABBATH for "Iron Man" and received a star on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002. He was inducted as a member of BLACK SABBATH into the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
Scorpions Guitarist Comments On MSG Performance
A new audio interview with SCORPIONS guitarist Matthias Jabs has been posted online at this location. The interview was carried out by Baconmusic's James Allman before the SCORPIONS' performance at Manchester Carling Apollo Sunday night (July 29). During the interview, Jabs was asked about Michael Schenker's disastrous performance at the Rock & Blues Custom Show the previous evening. A transcript of the Schenker-related portion of the interview follows:
Q: Michael Schenker was in a really bad way during the set and received a very poor reception from the crowd. Has anyone suggested to him that it's time to hang up his guitar?
Jabs: I only heard it from the dressing room. It sounded pretty awful. He didn't even know if he was coming. He's in one of his many phases of "I drink, I disappear." He doesn't know what he does. In a way we could say it's his problem, but we have his older brother [Rudolf Schenker, SCORPIONS guitarist] next door and if he's away, he's on the phone with him if he's reachable. I mean, it's a shame. It's his life, it's his career, and obviously, he's part of our show as well, to a certain extent. And guess what? We can't do it again. We weren't even sure if he was coming today, so we were trying to cover it by playing more songs, but that's unprofessional — don't wanna deal with that every day."
Crystalic Part ways With Guitarist
Finnish death metal band CRYSTALIC have parted ways with guitarist Erik Grönroos. Erik has issued the following statement on the matter:
"It's time for me to leave the band. This wasn't easy decision for me but that's what life is, decisions. Some of them are easy to make, some of them are not. I don't have that much time, money nor energy for the band anymore that playing in a band and being a member of a band would require to. It's not fair to other band members either that one is hanging along with half impression while rest of the band loads themselves for the band 110 percent and I don't want to slow down the progress of CRYSTALIC as a band neither guys of accomplishing their dream. People change while the years go by and I don't feel that playing guitar in a band is the biggest thing for me in life anymore. Somehow my interest towards music has fade little by little a long time by now so I'm going to end band stuffs entirely, at least for now. I will be Crystalic.net webmaster still so I won't be completely gone. We have been friends with the guys before I joined to CRYSTALIC and we will be friends from now on. So no bad blood between us. Thanks for amazing moments and for hard times as well guys. You guys rule and I wish the very best future for CRYSTALIC. And guys, let the metal flow!"
Schenker Brothers "Came To Blows" At Recent Show
U.K.-based music journalist and author Dave Ling has issued the following report via his official web site:
"Just home from the Rock & Blues Custom Show in Pentrich [England], where the best and worst of the Schenker family was displayed. Regardless of the falling rain, the SCORPIONS played a blinder as last night's headliners and I finally got to see Uli Jon Roth onstage with the band, running through four songs — 'Pictured Life', 'Speedy's Coming', 'We'll Burn The Sky' and 'Fly To The Rainbow'. What an awesome experience. To be honest, I felt a little sorry for Matthias Jabs, who despite doing an excellent job for the SCORPS for so many years suddenly found himself relegated to bit-part player. But anyway, here's the full set-list: 'Hour 1', 'Bad Boys Running Wild', 'Love 'Em Or Leave 'Em', 'The Zoo', 'Coast To Coast', 'Holiday', 'Humanity', 'Leaving You', 'Make It Real', 'Pictured Life', 'Speedy's Coming', 'We'll Burn The Sky', 'Fly To The Rainbow', 'Tease Me, Please Me', '321', 'Big City Nights', 'Dynamite', 'Still Loving You' and 'Rock You Like A Hurricane'.
"Compared to his elder sibling, who threw shapes and played the rock star to absolute perfection, Michael Schenker was an utter disgrace. He'd turned up at the site mid-morning with a bottle of Courvoisier cognac inside him. After an altercation during the soundcheck, Schenker threw his guitar across the stage, trying to hurt the agent who'd booked him for the show, before threatening not to perform. The rest of the day was spent in his portacabin, attempting to sleep things off. It didn't work. Excuse the language, but Schenker played like a complete c**t. Looking visibly glazed, he could scarely walk let alone play guitar. After 45 minutes of his alotted 90, having been booed and jeered throughout, Michael stumbled into the wings to the strains of the footie chant, 'You're shit and you know you are.' Then, incredibly, he returned. There was a momentary improvement, but any thoughts that Schenker might get out of jail were rudely shot down during the ensuing half-hour. 'Ladies and gentlemen, this is fucking improvised but we do the best we can, okay?' slurred Michael before UFO's 'Too Hot To Handle' — a song he must've played a hundred thousand times before, the simple riff to which had suddenly become infinitely beyond his grasp. Believe me, the song 'On And On' had never felt more appropriate. Once it was all over, Michael and his brother Rudolf came to blows and the pair had to be separated by security. The word 'pathetic' doesn't even begin to cover it. It'll be interesting to see whether he makes it to Manchester or Hammersmith."
Catamenia Begin New Album
Guitarist Riku Hopeakoski of the Finnish melodic black metal act CATAMENIA has revealed to Metalhead.ro that he is currently working on material for the band's new album. The group is tentatively scheduled to enter Mastervox studio in Helsinki early next year to begin recording the effort for a late 2008 release.
CATAMENIA recently announced the addition of drummer Mikko Nevanlahti to the group's ranks. The band will team up with Belgium's ANCIENT RITES for a North American tour between November 23 and December 22.
CATAMENIA recently uploaded the "Cataventures Part III" video clip, the most recent in a series of clip chronicling the band's adventures touring through Europe. You can check out all three parts on the group's official web site.
CATAMENIA's latest album, "Location: COLD", was released last August via Massacre Records. The CD was recorded, mixed and mastered at Mastervox Studios by Kakke Vähäkuopus and Immu Ilmarinen. The cover artwork was created by Anthony Clarkson.
Footage Of MSG At Rock And Blues Custom Posted
According to fan postings on the official Rock & Blues Custom Show forum (here and here), legendary German guitarist Michael Schenker delivered a less-than-impressive performance at the annual U.K. festival, which was held over the weekend at Coney Grey Showground, Chesterfield Road, Pentrich, Derbyshire, England. One attendee, who goes by the name "trkelly", described Schenker's performance Saturday night (July 28) as "pathetic," adding that "you could see people in the crowd cringing at his performance. The man wasn't in a fit state to pick up a guitar, never mind play it. I did feel a bit sorry for the rest of his band, but got to say the singer murdered every UFO song they did; it would have certainly given Phil Mogg a good laugh."
Fan-filmed video footage of one of Schenker's solos has been posted on YouTube. Watch it below.

Monster Magnet Frontman Speaks Of Overdose
MONSTER MAGNET frontman Dave Wyndorf recently spoke to U.K.-based music journalist Dave Ling about the occasion on which an overdose on prescription drugs almost killed him on February 27, 2006.
"It had been a long time coming," recounts Wyndorf. "Eveything began when I couldn't sleep on tour, so the doctors gave me something that would put down a wild animal. This was an anti-anxiety drug; the stuff that airline pilots and astronauts use. I was doing a lot of transatlantic flying, and on a plane one day I just started gobbling them down. All of my paranoias came at me like a giant, three-headed beast. My biggest mistake was not asking for help. The things are supposed to clear you mind before you go to sleep. They wipe out all the worries and concerns you might have, but what I didn't understand is that it's like a computer..."
Everything just re-boots when you switch on again? "Exactly," he replies. "The problems are not deleted, in fact they get magnified by ten. It was fucking horrible. I was utterly powerless, on a slipperly slope. I don't recall doing it but on the day concerned I took the whole Goddamn bottle — a hundred pills, man, just like they were a shot glass — and the next thing I knew, I woke up in a fucking loony bin."
Having sampled their upside and downside, even forged a career spent singing about them, Wyndorf is in a pretty unique position to talk about drugs. "They're supposedly a gateway into creativity," he muses. "And you know what? It's all a myth. They suck, and they'll get you in the end. They certainly got me."
As previously reported, MONSTER MAGNET has set "4 Way Diablo" was the title of its new album, due on November 2, 2007 via SPV Records. The CD was produced by Matt Hyde and features a cover version of THE ROLLING STONES' "2,000 Light Years from Home".
"4 Way Diablo" track listing:
01. 4 Way Diablo
02. Wall of Fire
03. You're Alive
04. Blow Your Mind
05. Cyclone
06. 2000 Light Years from Home (THE ROLLNG STONES cover)
07. No Vacation
08. I'm Calling You
09. Solid Gold
10. Freeze and Pixillate
11. A Thousand Stars
12. Slap in the Face
13. Little Bag of Gloom
Hyde, who worked with MONSTER MAGNET on their "Powertrip" and "God Says No" releases, stated about the band's new CD back in March 2006, "I believe it has the potential to be their best record since 'Powertrip'."

God Forbid Guitarist Posts Update
GOD FORBID guitarist Doc Coyle has posted this message on the band's official website:
"What's the word friends? Doc from GOD FORBID checking in once again. A lot has been going on in the GOD FORBID camp as always. First off, we can't seem to stay off the road. Haha. We'll be hitting up a two-week west coast run with our good friends in DEVILDRIVER. We have been trying to set up something with them forever, but it never seems to work out. They are some of my personal favorite people in the metal scene, and they bring the thunder live. Mayhem and drunken antics shall ensue. I will look forward to it. Suicide Silence is on the tour as well, and they seem to be really turning alot of heads. Can't to play with them! We'll be doing our own headline shows to and from the DEVILDRIVER tour as it takes place almost entirely on the west coast. These shows have been put together kind of last minute so tell your friends to come out bitches! We're also playing the 'Gathering Of The Juggalos" festival, and have been catching some flack for it on our myspace. Trust me, we were as suprised as you guys when we found out we were playing it, but ya gotta pay the bills. Driving across the country costs money. It's certainly not our cup of tea or comfort zone. Either way, it should interesting, and we'll see how we fit into that odd mix. White people rapping and black people playing metal. It'll be like an alternate universe.
While we've been home for the last few weeks working on the DVD and the new record. The audio for the DVD is done being mixed, and I have to say it sounds monstrous. Eric Rachel hit another home run. I love that guy! Dave Brodsky should start the editing process for the concert shortly, and I expect nothing but good things. We also filmed a bunch of interviews for the documentary, which I am sure will prove entertaining. Denise Korycki is working on the documentary, and she has a big task in front of her in regards to editing. She has every bit of footage ever shot of the band going back to 98 and 99. I am very interested in seeing what makes the cut. Hopefully, we can get it out this year, but we don't want to force it out until it's top notch. Let's keep our fingers crossed. We also started writing for the next GF cd. I can say it's going slow, but it's going. I'd love to get the record out next year, but no promises. We can't seem to stop touring, and the new record has to be a masterpiece or nothing at all. So I expect it to be a painstaking, heart wrenching process that hopefully we'll all survive. See you all on the other side. Peace."

New Ravage Album "95% Done"
RAVAGE vocalist Al Ravage has posted this message on the band's MySpace page:
"Greetings all,
Things are going well with the recording of the 'Damn Nation' album. The album is we started it is now 95% done...we need only record the vocals for 'Damn Nation', 'Freedom Fighter' and 'Reign Fall'...but...the album isn't going to quite be finished the way we started it. We actually decided to add two more songs...plus the cover song we are doing....so there are a few more tracks to record. The goal is to complete all the recording by the end of August...so we'll be busy.
Speaking of the end of August...we have a great show coming up at The Goodtimes Emporium in Sommerville, MA with Metal legends MELIAH RAGE and MASS...August 24...mark your calendars.
New RAVAGE t-shirts have been ordered and will be available by the show, if not sooner. We'll also have RAVAGE shot glasses and mugs coming soon as well, so you can drink RAVAGE jello shots and drink George Bellofattos.
So at this point we are not far away from posting some teaser sound clips...because some of the songs are already ready to be mixed. There will be a lot coming in the near future...a new website...new audio obviously...videos for the new album...videos from our trip to Germany...lots of goodies, and once this album is done we'll be going right into writing for the next CD and hopefully touring or playing some festivals next summer. So stayed tuned!

More Coalesce DVD Details Revealed
Coalesce has nearly completed work on their upcoming DVD release, which will most likely be available in September. Here's an update from the band:
"The Coalesce archival DVD release is upon us. The covers are coming in soon, and the DVD slips have been hand cut and hand embossed by Sean and his daughters. In short we are pretty excited about this very hand made project. The packaging is a silkscreened digipack that is 1/2" thick, and all 4 discs, insert, and sticker slide into. Some of the audio on some of the shows is not ideal, but we are talking about footage from 1995. None of the shows are edited, it's full sets, with chapter marks at each new song. Some of the shows are cut short due to batteries dying or whatever, but we are hard at work at digging up more old footage for future archival. If anyone has anything not on this list, please get in touch with us! The price for this package is going to be $25.00 at our shows, and it may show up at mom and pop stores in October."

We're breaking up soon. Expect a final show in Vancouver in the late fall, stay tuned for tickets, times and a line-up."
Originally formed during the spring of 2002, the group has released several albums with Rivalry Records.
