Deceased Part Ways With Longtime Guitarist

After 22 years of playing in DECEASED, guitarist Mark Adams is leaving the band. "I have had a lifetime of great memories playing in Deceased for so many years," he says. "It's really crazy thinking back to how long ago it actually was when King and I first started this band. A lot of blood, sweat and tears has been given since then and I am proud of what we have accomplished. We had a hell of a run. This has been the hardest decision I've ever had to make in my life, but I know it's the right one. Even though everyone is living far away from each other these days and is moving on with their lives, we still remain family and of course, best friends. I wish everyone in the band the very best."

Leader King Fowley comments: "Mark has made a big decision to step down from playing in the band. We are all sad to see him go, but we are all family first off, and foremost and we respect his decision and support him 100%. The band will be carrying on, with Shane Fuegel stepping in for the new LP' Surreal Overdose' along side Mike Smith in the studio. This will be the 'recording line up' for the future. Shane has done a tremendous job and has become family so quick with us, we all feel this is a great fit to the band. As for live gigs, we will be working in a second guitarist to play along side Shane in the future. More on this as we get it together!" More...

Ephel Duath Begins Work On New Album

Italian experimental jazz metallers Ephel Duath have begun work on a new album due to be released in 2008 via Earache Records. The album, entitled "Through My Dog's Eyes," is set to be a concept album in which a dog depicts his vision of various aspects of life, from casual things like nightmares or walks to deeper issues such as accepting death and the rules of nature that are unavoidable. The band are currently gathered together, writing and arranging the songs, and guitarist Davide had this to say about the album:

"The preproduction is very promising, and we'll abuse it to grasp and magnify the potential of each track: we are sure that the album will not only please the fans but that it will also bring us new ones."

Talking about the concept behind "Through My Dog's Eyes," Davide has also stated that:

"Lyrics-wise, it is a first person narrative in the shape of various short novels. We are in no way attempting to prove any sort of superiority or draw a parallel between man and animal. All we intend to do is capture the essence of how we think dogs see life, hence the use of the first person, and all of this being speculation means that the texts deal with sheer fantasy. We'll push people to think about this concept as an ode to one of the animals with the most humanity in the eyes."

Seether Set Release Date For New Album

Seether have announced the release of their third studio album via Wind-up Records on October 23, 2007. The South African émigrés, who now live in the Los Angeles area, are coming off three consecutive gold certified studio albums. Their debut DISCLAIMER, was re-released following sales of over 500,000 copies in the US with a DVD and bonus tracks which included the pop hit “Broken” from The Punisher feature film. This expanded version of the album titled DISCLAIMER II went on to sell over 50,000 copies in Canada and 678,461 copies in the US. The band’s follow-up KARMA & EFFECT, has officially been certified gold by CRIA and according to Soundscan, has sold 703,680 copies in the US since its release date. As a bridge between studio albums, Seether released the CD/DVD ONE COLD NIGHT, a live, acoustic offering captured in Philadelphia, PA. The new album titled FINDING BEAUTY IN NEGATIVE SPACES will be released on October 23, 2007.

Singer / Guitarist Shaun Morgan shared, “we've been working very hard on this album, and it's been quite some time since we've had a single at radio, so we're extremely excited to be back in the saddle, so to speak. We basically whittled down over 50 songs, to our favourite 15, and we've adopted an 'anything goes' attitude for this album. We didn't restrict ourselves to straight rock songs, and we were completely open to new ideas. This is not by any stretch of the imagination a concept album, nor is it a 'woe is me, I'm sober' album. We explored our melodic side a little bit more, and as a result, I believe this is our best collective effort to date. It may come as a surprise to some, but we feel like we've grown and are starting to find our place with regards to the sound of the band."

Few artists over the past five years have performed as many dates as Seether has. Outside of when they are writing or recording, the band averages over 275 performances annually. Once out of the studio, the band will join Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin for an arena tour in the US which will take them through the release of FINDING BEAUTY IN NEGATIVE SPACES.

Bassist Dale Stewart offered, “We're essentially a touring band. We love nothing more than to take the songs to the clubs, and the people, and perform them to the best of our ability. We've been off the road for the best part of a year now, so we're itching to get back out and entertain our fans! It's always incredibly exciting when you head out on a brand new tour, in support of a brand new album. It's new for us, and it's new for the fans, so it becomes a new show, for people who have had the chance to see us before. This is our favorite time of any cycle!"

BBC Apologizes To Metallica Fans

John Plunkett of MediaGuardian.co.uk reports that the BBC has put out an apology after complaints from viewers that the set by METALLICA was not shown in full in its live coverage of the Live Earth concert from Wembley stadium in London, England.

The BBC was at pains to point out that the decision was not taken out of "prejudice about heavy metal music or any other music." Rather, it was a result of its efforts to broadcast from other Live Earth concerts from around the world.

To add insult to injury, however, the BBC misspelled the band's name on its complaints website.

"We received complaints from some viewers that the METALICA [sic] set was not shown in full," it said.

"This was a global event and we were keen to reflect the other concerts as well as the one in UK.

"We took editorial decisions in advance and on the day, about the times and places we would do that.

"Not all the tracks by every performer could be featured but we did transmit a full trail promoting our interactive coverage where digital viewers wanting to see the performances in full, could press the red button at any time.

"The concerts were very fluid in London and around the world and there was certainly no prejudice about heavy metal music or any other music; just a determination to do the best for the entire audience watching on BBC2 and BBC1 during the day.

"This is inevitably a fine balance and we cannot please everyone all of the time. However, we of course apologise if any particular viewers were disappointed."

One viewer, Cheryl Joyce from Northants, wrote to the Sun after the concert to complain. "I can't understand why METALLICA were cut short at Live Earth," she said. "They have a bigger following than most bands who were there."

Live Earth proved a ratings disappointment for BBC1, drawing less than a third of the audience that tuned in for the Concert for Diana the previous week.

Live Earth averaged 2.7 million viewers during its evening coverage, peaking with 4.5 million. The Diana concert peaked with 14.8 million.

Fan-filmed video footage of TESTAMENT performing at this year's edition of the Waldrock festival, which was held on July 7 in Burgum (Bergum), in the northern region of The Netherlands, has been posted at YouTube

TESTAMENT recently inked a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Records. The group will enter the studio late summer/early fall to record its long-awaited new album for a March 2008 release.

TESTAMENT parted ways with Spitfire Records earlier in the year (the Spitfire Records catalog was acquired last summer by Redux Records, the company formerly known as Sheridan Square Entertainment).

Spitfire released a TESTAMENT compilation, "The Spitfire Collection", in February. Consisting of tracks from such Spitfire titles as "The Gathering", "Demonic", "Live at the Fillmore", "First Strike Still Deadly" and "Live in London", the 14-track set chronicles an era that ultimately saw the original TESTAMENT reunite for a successful 2005 tour.

The Funeral Pyre Offers Post-Tour Wrap Up

Los Angeles blackened death metal band THE FUNERAL PYRE has just completed a month of touring - first on the "Welcome To Hell" tour with As Eden Burns and Cerberus, then on the "Thrash And Burn" tour with labelmates LIGHT THIS CITY and fellow SoCalers Antagonist. THE FUNERAL PYRE has offered this update from their Southern California home:

"THE FUNERAL PYRE, would collectively like to say thank you to all the bands we toured with this summer and to all the bands that we were able to share the stage with. It was an honor. Also, thank you to all who came out to support us, or if you heard us for the first time. We had a wonderful time meeting new people again and of course thrashing in a ton of cities. We hope that you, the fans, enjoyed what we brought to the table. With that being said, we'll be playing some local shows throughout the fall, maybe another tour, we're not sure yet. But we will be playing shows and working on new material...Which brings us here.

"We have been working on the new record in between shows, tours, and our day jobs. We are hoping that with this record we can take whatever sound we have to the next level. But only time will tell. Some song titles we have thus far include: 'Thieves,' 'Wounds,' and 'Devourer.' The album title is floating around, but it will take shape in the near future. We have about 5 songs done and are going to write more. By the end of the year we will be playing these songs live, or a few of them. So if you like what you hear, please, let us know. Other than that, we will recharge our batteries, get the riffs flowing and start yet another excursion to finish our third full length record."

THE FUNERAL PYRE continues to support 'The Nature of Betrayal,' which saw a March 2007 re-release via Prosthetic Records through a distribution deal with Creator Destructor Records. The band has already been hard at work supporting the record, having played this year's New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and California Metalfest, as well as touring with Light This City, As Eden Burns, Apiary, Cerberus and Dryline among others.

THE FUNERAL PYRE tour dates:
7/19 Corona, CA – Showcase Theatre (with The Nauseating Stab, Stealth, Black Angel Decay)

Forwardhead Takes The Next Step w/ Pieces Release

Now that Forwardhead has announced the first batch of their headlining tour dates, I am officially late on this show report. On Saturday, May 26, over Memorial Day Weekend, I made my second trip to Baltimore's excellent Ram's Head Live, this time to catch the Metalunderground.com-sponsored Forwardhead CD release party. The bill sported five local bands playing a show in celebration of Forwardhead's long-awaited album "Pieces" being released. The all-ages show was to feature a screening of their first video as well.

I entered just as the first band, Phantom Communique was taking the stage. The crowd was a decent size - somewhere upwards of 200 people I'd estimate - which worked well for the Ram's Head Live's configuration. The balcony areas were closed off, as the main floor (that I consider small for a sold out show) was sufficient for a crowd this size. The venue seemed ideal for a smaller crowd like this and the show had a feel somewhat more professional than a local show, but more laid back than a bigger concert. More...
