Jourgensen To Join Cheap Trick In Beatles Tribute

Ministry's AL JOURGENSEN has been confirmed to special guest with Cheap Trick when they perform The Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" from start to finish in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the landmark album. Jourgensen will join Cheap Trick onstage in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Bowl on August 10 and 11 to perform the Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," considered to be one of the most complex songs ever recorded by the Fab Four.

At the specific request of Cheap Trick's Rick Nielson and Robin Zander, the Ministry guitarist/vocalist has re-arranged the song and made it "bent, in the Al Jourgensen way." Ministry/RevCo guitarist Sin Quirin will join Jourgensen and Cheap Trick onstage for the performance.

"'Sgt. Pepper's' is certainly one of the greatest pieces of art ever created, so to be asked to participate in this momentous occasion is a great honor," commented Jourgensen.

Jourgensen will see Ministry's final studio album, "The Last Sucker," released on September 18 (13th Planet/Megaforce). The album is the third in an unrelenting and uber-critical CD trilogy aimed at exposing the plethora of foils, failures and fabrications perpetrated by the George W. Bush Administration.

"The Last Sucker" was produced and recorded this past Spring by Jourgensen at his 13th Planet compound just outside of El Paso, TX, and sees the return of "Rio Grande Blood" musicians "Thomas Victor (Prong) on guitars, Paul Raven (Killing Joke/Prong) on bass, with newcomer guitarist Sin Quirin from The Revolting Cocks 2006 touring line-up. Jourgensen and his engineer John "Bixby" Bilberry handled all the drum programming. In addition, Burton C. Bell from Fear Factory makes a vocal appearance on "Die In A Crash," as well as the album's final two songs, "End of Days" parts One and Two.

Lake of Tears Explain Tracks On New Album

Johan Oudhuis, LAKE OF TEARS' bass player, spoke with MetalHead.ro about their new album, Moons And Mushrooms, and about every song included on the release, prior to the band's upcoming Romanian gig, scheduled for September 8th.

Even if the name Moons And Mushrooms is not "such a big concept", in the bassist's opinion, still the title gives the band a feeling of agreement and welfare. "I think it consists of something which can be defined as the Lake Of Tears spirit", says Johan.

Johan Oudhuis about the songs included on this album: 'Last Purple Sky' - "This in one of the first songs written for this album, so it is quite old. When we first played it, we thought, 'Well, this will be the first song of the album!'. It's a classical Lake Of Tears. The track is correlated with the production, which emphasizes the guitar work, so the sound is pretty heavy."

In 2005, the band released their first recorded music, which quickly drew the attention of uber-kvlt underground label Battle Kommand Records, which released the tracks as the band's eponymous debut EP soon after. Korn Frontman Responds To Devo Comment

Launch Radio Networks reports: KORN issues its untitled eighth studio album on Tuesday (July 31), marking the group's first release as a trio. The band has also hinted that the new CD represents a major musical progression for the band, just as 2005's "See You on the Other Side" did. Guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer described the record and said where he thought it fits into KORN's catalog. "This record's very musical for KORN," he said. "Very gothic, musical. It's gonna take listeners a little bit of time to let it sink in, but I think they're really gonna love it. In the KORN catalog, I think I would compare it more to, like, our album 'Untouchables'."

"Untouchables", KORN's fifth album, was released in 2002.

The new disc was recorded without original drummer David Silveria, who took a temporary leave of absence from the band last December. Terry Bozzio, Brooks Wackerman and KORN singer Jonathan Davis all contributed drum tracks to the set.

KORN will hold a press conference in New York City's Times Square on Tuesday to announce plans for working with the USO and initiatives to make this summer's Family Values tour more eco-friendly.

The band will perform a free show on Tuesday evening at New York's South Street Seaport to celebrate the release of the new album. More details can be found at jr.com/korn.

The Family Values tour, which also features EVANESCENCE, HELLYEAH, FLYLEAF, ATREYU, TRIVIUM and others in addition to headliners KORN, makes its next stop in Buffalo, New York on Friday (August 3).

Jonathan Davis also responded to DEVO member Jerry Casale's accusation that KORN ripped off DEVO's "de-evolution" concept for a web site called EvolutionDevolution.com that promoted KORN's new "Evolution" video. Davis told RollingStone.com, "KORN never claimed to be the first to expose De-Evolution, our hats are off to DEVO for that...we are glad to see that our efforts have them speaking up again! It's good to have them back."

Lars Talks About New Album and More In Interview

Britain's Metal Hammer magazine has recently conducted an exlusive interview with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich about the progress of the recording sessions for the group's new album, among other subjects. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

Metal Hammer: You've already recorded the drum, guitar and bass tracks for the new album, with the rest to be added some time in August.

Lars: "The backing tracks are done, yeah. But Rick [Rubin, producer] likes to keep things organic and work in a way that can be described as 'of the moment.' If we continue in August we should be done by October."

Metal Hammer: Rubin isn't known for being to giving with his time. What role has he played in the sessions?

Lars: "He's been there every single day so far. He's all about the big picture. He doesn't analyze things like drum tempos or tell James [Hetfield] to play something in F sharp. He's more about the feel: is everyone playing together? Rick's a vibe guy."

Metal Hammer: And is it okay for Rick to tell you something you've done sucks?

Lars: "Absolutely. And, believe me, he does. There's not a lot of gray with him. He really speaks his mind. Either something's great or something sucks."

Metal Hammer: How easy was it to can Bob Rock?

Lars: [Frowing]: "That's not a term I'd like to use. We'd been making records together for almost 20 years. That's as creative a relationship as you can come up with in music, film...just about anything. But it had got to a point where we would both finish each other's sentences. We needed to look somewhere else for our own sanity, survival and fulfillment."

Metal Hammer: How did you let him know that it was over?

Lars: "We talk on the phone a lot. That's the thing. I've said it many times: Bob has always been primarily a friend, and secondarily a producer. And that friendship hasn't suffered whatsoever."

Metal Hammer: In hiring Rubin, what were you hoping to achieve?

Lars: "To a certain extent, it was to do with wiping the slate clean when it came to the process of making records. I've known Rick for many years but we've never worked together. He brings a whole new energy and dynamic."

Metal Hammer: In keeping with the fact that you've been playing the title track of the "...And Justice for All" album again, Internet gossip suggests that some of these songs will be long ones.

Lars: "I wouldn't say that they're longer than the ones before. We've always written long songs. Most of the new ones clock between six and eight minutes. There's one that's five minutes. We're recording 14 and plan on finishing them all because we love them all. But only nine or ten will appear on the new record".

Metal Hammer: Kirk [Hammett] has said that although this is METALLICA's 11th studio album. It feels like the band's sixth. Does a part of you consider "St. Anger" was a mistake?

Lars: "Not at all. The mistake was the white leather jacket [worn in the drummer's infamous rock star phase, circa a stadiom tour with GUNS N' ROSES in 1992]. The Napster dispute wasn't a mistake, but it caught us off guard. The music has always been pure. It was the right thing to have done in 2003. That said, I listened to it a couple of months ago and it's a difficult record. I can hear that. But when I finished it, it made me do the same kind of backflips as all the other records."

Metal Hammer: You must've known that after the whole "Some Kind of Monster" thing, some people — including Kerry King [of SLAYER] who called you "fragile old men" — would never take the band seriously again.

Lars: "Oh listen, the reason we did that movie was to piss Kerry King off. Being the source of his amusement, that's great!"

Metal Hammer: As fascinating as it looked on screen, wouldn't it have been better to keep those things behind closed doors?

Lars: "There's certainly an argument for that. But right from day one, METALLICA has always been about the relationship with the fans. Unlike bands like LED ZEPPELIN who tried to keep things mystical, we've gone out of our way to be as accesible as possible. Our roots are alot more punk than that. 'Some Kind of Monster' was the logical conclusion of that mindset".

Metal Hammer: Then presumably you disagree with Kerry's ageist comments?

Lars: "Of course I do. If he hated 'Some Kind of Monster' that's the only stamp of approval that I need".

Metal Hammer: Nevertheless, "Some Kind of Monster" raised a lot of questions about your coheisiveness as a band. How are you all faring now?

Lars: "Of course, it asked some important questions. But you've got to remember that it was a moment in time from five years ago. Phil [Towle, therapist] is no longer around and we all get along. And mentioning Phil's name reminds me, he always used to tell us back then that the music we're making wouldn't shine through until the record after 'St. Anger'. I think he was right about that". Final Ministry Release To Be All Covers CD

MINISTRY mainman Al Jourgensen has revealed to Germany's Metal Hammer magazine that the group's previously announced "final" album, "The Last Sucker", will be followed by an all-covers release, tentatively due in 2008. According to Jourgensen, the as-yet-untitled effort will contain "a lot of different cover songs from various bands," some of which have already been released on MINISTRY albums over the years.

MINISTRY's upcoming covers album is expected to include the following tracks, among others:

Previously released songs:

"Supernaut" by BLACK SABBATH (from "Supernaut" EP)
"Lay Lady Lay" by BOB DYLAN (from "Filth Pig")
"Roadhouse Blues" by THE DOORS (from "The Last Sucker")
"The Light Pours out of Me" by MAGAZINE (from "Animosity")

New songs:

"I Want You" by THE BEATLES
"Under My Thumb" by THE ROLLING STONES
"Space Trucking" by DEEP PURPLE
"Black Betty" by RAM JAM
"Radar Love" by GOLDEN EARRING

MINISTRY's "The Last Sucker" album will be released on September 18 via 13th Planet/Megaforce. A world tour will follow in 2008.

In addition to being MINISTRY's final studio album, the 11-track "The Last Sucker" is the third in an unrelenting and uber-critical CD trilogy aimed at exposing the plethora of foils, failures and fabrications perpetrated by the George W. Bush administration. "The Last Sucker", which follows "Houses of the Mole" (2004) and "Rio Grande Blood" (2006), is the final nail in the Dubya coffin. To represent the Prez accurately, Jourgensen interspersed snippets of Dubya sound bites and samples throughout "The Last Sucker". "My engineer and I were hunched over a computer for nights on end listening to this fucking idiot until our minds were numb," he said. "I mean, I'm absolutely stupider for listening to his drivel for such concentrated periods of time, but I viewed including these sound bites as a necessary evil."

"The Last Sucker" was produced and recorded this past spring by Jourgensen at his 13th Planet compound just outside of El Paso, TX, and sees the return of "Rio Grande Blood" musicians Thomas Victor (PRONG) on guitars, Paul Raven (KILLING JOKE, PRONG) on bass, with newcomer guitarist Sin Quirin from THE REVOLTING COCKS 2006 touring line-up. Jourgensen and his engineer John "Bixby" Bilberry handled all the drum programming. In addition, Burton C. Bell from FEAR FACTORY makes a vocal appearance on "Die In A Crash", as well as the album's final two songs, "End of Days" parts One and Two.

"The Last Sucker" track listing:

01. Let's Go
02. Watch Yourself
03. Life Is Good
04. The Dick Song
05. The Last Sucker
06. No Glory
07. Death and Destruction
08. Roadhouse Blues
09. Die In A Crash
10. End of Days Part One
11. End of Days Part Two
