Divinity Announce New CD, Canadian Tour

Canadian heavy metal veterans Divinity recently announced the release of their highly anticipated upcoming CD "Allegory", due on July 28, 2007.

After rising to the top of Alberta's metal scene with 10 years experience, playing live with influential bands such as Into Eternity, Kataklysm and Cannibal Corpse and garnering a growing international fanbase, Divinity is determined to expose as many people as possible to the new material on "Allegory". The new CD was mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen, who has worked with the Haunted, Aborted, Threat Signal, and Mnemic. The vocals were recorded in one of Calgary's top studios, "The Beach."

Divinity's Canadian tour will run from late July to early September including dates in Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg and Vancouver. They will be sharing the stage with metal acts Blasphemy, Morterra, Exit Strategy, Unhuman, Cradle to Grave, and Entropia.

Following the group's successful spring tour, HEAVEN AND HELL will again wow American audiences with its bewitching stage set and truly timeless, classic metal as Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice return for the second U.S. leg of the quartet's continuing world tour. Set to launch on September 5, HEAVEN AND HELL's tour will stop in many cities not included on the previous leg and will feature opening sets from ALICE COOPER and QUEENSRŸCHE.

Last year, the iconic quartet reconvened to record a trio of songs for "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years", a compilation that features essential songs by the short-lived, but beloved incarnation of BLACK SABBATH fronted by Dio. Dubbing the group HEAVEN AND HELL after one of its signature hits, the band launched a much-anticipated world tour earlier this year. The group celebrated its first U.S. concert in 15 years with a sold-out performance at Radio City Music Hall. Recorded and filmed in its entirety, Rhino captured the historic concert for a CD and DVD release, "Heaven And Hell Live From Radio City Music Hall", set for an August 28 release.

ALICE COOPER and QUEENSRŸCHE will join HEAVEN AND HELL on the road this fall creating one of the year's hardest-hitting triple bills. In addition to his duties as a rock 'n' roll icon, Cooper is the host of the syndicated "Nights With Alice Cooper" radio show. Cooper's autobiography, "Alice Cooper, Golf Monster", was released last month. QUEENSRŸCHE is riding high on the success of last year's "Operation: Mindcrime II" album and tour, which brought the group's complete "Mindcrime" saga to the stage in its entirety. On July 3, Rhino will release CD and DVD versions of "Mindcrime At The Moore", which feature QUEENSRŸCHE's performance in front of its hometown crowd at Moore Theatre in Seattle.

Site Update

We've Moved!

After a nearly day-long effort of migrating our massive database (over 6 years of data; 27,000+ news posts and articles, 5000+ bands and more) and getting things up and running, Metalunderground.com has moved to a new, more powerful server and new web host. This should mean all-around faster site responsiveness, even at peak times where the old server and bandwidth were barely capable.

This move has been a long time coming and I will be tweaking things for additional performance improvements in the weeks to come.

It may take a day or two for the DNS to propagate worldwide to the new server, so please don't bookmark the temporary URL if it does not read http://www.metalunderground.com - the temporary URL will not remain valid after this week.

If you do see any intermittent errors, please post a comment in this thread, as the email portion of our contact form may not be working properly for a few days as well.

Thanks for reading and for your time and patience in this matter. My apolgies for the down-time, but it should be worth it. Hopefully we'll all have a much improved experience here.

Vader Frontman Checks In From The Road

The following message has been posted on Vader's official website...

"The next part of Summer Festivals we started this time in VADERs HQ - Mariusz house in Ciechocinek. For short weekend trips we usually use buses or vans to travel. This time we took our "heaviest artillery": our own nightliner!!! There's anything abort, that we need on tour - TV games, DVD, CD players also the most necessary tool... coffee express!!! The whole team: Jack, Waldi, January, Michael, Toni and our driver Kristoph were alredy waiting for us. We then loaded our gear, took some sleep and... drive to Germany. The first show was Queens of Metal Fest in Schweinfurt. Swiss REQUIEM and Austrian (or better now: european...) BELPHEGOR joined us as well. So the team is collected. We already know this place also the response was tremendous! We were afraid a bit of showers reigning around but... in vain. After two hours long attempt of taking our bus out from deep mud we continued to Calais. We have spent the whole day being traveling to Glasgow. The show in the capitol of Scotland like the other, which we were playing in between the festivals, were booked to avoid of returning to Poland for just 2-3 days before the next weekend. All in all our concerts in Soundhouse and terrible tight "Purple Turtle" in London were enough good to satisfy us and a couple of hundred Metal Heads. Next one was Holland and awesome club W2, were we raised Hell with our friends from Belphegor and then France and very special National Music Meeting in Thionnille ... Several stages in the whole city center, a bit party like atmosphere and many happy people around. And again showers and... great show and response!!! There were so many visitors amongst the crowd, who never saw Vader before... Now They all know and wait for more.

Graspop was next. I never ever saw so professional prepared festival before. Indeed! Everything, that Fans or bands need was there. Quality first!!! So high level demands real good performance ... so we did! It was for sure one of Vader's best concert ever. 6.000 crazy Maniax welcomed us fantastic !!! There were many guys from Poland as well... Awsome!!!After the show me and my band mates spend some monies for new "dark clothing". And our second driver Radek joined the team that night too...

Hellfest Festival in France - where we played next day - is also one of the most famous extreme music meeting place in Europe today. Two feed deep mud and even some bad feeling after Korn cancelled their show a day before couldn't destroy still great atmosphere of the festival . We did the best that evening giving as much anger from the stage as we could. So did all Maniax... Slaughter!!!

Next three shows in Germany were enough interesting just because they happened... There's not many bands playing shows in festival season indeed. Trier, Essen ,Kiel (Kill !!!...) - three club shows with still awesome atmosphere. What should we add? We're heading to Sweden tonight. There are 4 shows in Scandinavia and Baltic Lands before us now. Until next time !!!! Support Metal !!!

After the aforementioned gigs VADER appeared on show in Alingsas, enormous Peace And Love festival in Borlange, Tuska Festival in Helsinki and Hard Rock Laager Festival in Tallin. On July 7 the band will play a show on prestigious Warldrock Festival in Holland. Stay tuned for more news from the front line.

Hellfest Organisers Threaten To Sue Korn

The organizers of France's Hellfest have announced plans to file a lawsuit against KORN and the band's management The Firm today (Monday, July 2) over the group's failure to perform at the festival.

In a statement issued by KORN's singer, Jonathan Davis, on June 22 — the day the group was supposed to perform at Hellfest — he blamed the cancellation on "severe weather" conditions "and a negligent promoter who didn't provide adequate cover for our gear." Davis added that "we were advised to cancel the show for risk of the band being electrocuted. The fans were short-changed and that pisses us off. This was an especially important show for us given my illness last year which prevented me from performing. I am seriously bummed."

Speaking to Nantes.maville.com, Hellfest organizer Benjamin Barbaud insisted that all conditions were met to insure KORN's safety and he explained that the band was paid in full for its performance — even though the group didn't end up playing a single note.

Ulrich Says New Album Will Be "More Dynamic"

Belgium's Studio Brussel conducted an interview with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich on Sunday (July 1) prior to the band's appearance at the Rock Werchter festival. In regards to METALLICA's new studio album, Lars said the backing tracks were done in May and that the band will start laying down vocals and overdubs in August in hopes of finishing the CD by October or November. Lars predicted the album will drop in February 2008. He said, "It doesn't sound like 'St. Anger' to me. It's a little early to kind of put in a soundbite exactly. But it doesn't sound anything like 'St. Anger'. It's probably a little more dynamic, and a little more varied, and it has lots of different nutty METALLICA stuff on it. I don't know. . . One thing I can tell you is that [the songs] are quite long." Regarding talk of Eastern influences, as hinted by guitarist Kirk Hammett in an Austrian interview a couple of months ago, Ulrich said, "There's a couple of bits in there that could be called Eastern, but don't read too much into that — it's not an album full of 12 'Kashmir's or anything [referring to the classic LED ZEPPELIN track famous for its Eastern influences — Ed.]. But there is some stuff in that direction, sure." Lars also spoke about some of his favorite European festivals and what to expect from their Rock Werchter show.

Slayer Fan Faceplants at Slayer's Metaltown show

As reported by Sweden's GT paper, a 22-year-old man is in critical condition after jumping from a bridge during Slayer's headlining show at the Metaltown festival in Gothenburg, Sweden late Saturday night.

The Göta Älv bridge, which runs over the river of the same name, is located just opposite the main stage and a lot of people stand on the bridge and watch the performances from a distance.

Slayer was about an hour into its show when the 22-year-old man and a friend stripped down to their underwear. As the crowd cheered on, the two counted down and were about to jump off when one of them decided not to go through with the "joke" and watched as his friend hurled himself from the 30-meter-high bridge. When the jumper didn't resurface, his friend screamed that someone should call the emergency number 112. The jumper was later found unconcious in the water and medical personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him. He was rushed to the emergency room and is currently in critical condition.

"It was a horrible experience. People were standing there crying after it had happened," a witness tells GT.

Earlier that night, several other people also jumped from the bridge. It is unclear if any of them sought medical attention.

In addition to Slayer, Metaltown featured performances by Machine Head, Mastodon, Entombed, Ill Nino, Marduk, Meshuggah, and Candlemass among others. Videos of many of these performances can be located on YouTube.
