Into The Moat Writing New Material, New Bassist
Into the Moat has checked in with news about their new bassist and progress on writing new material:
"Hello all. Long time no talk. Sorry about that. I hope everyone still remembers us...you know, the technical metal band from south Florida?! However, our time away from the road has not gone without it's merits. We have been hard at work doing all that we do. Including college and work full time, and writing a new record. Which by the way is coming out amazing. I truly think we're onto some original stuff here. We are playing a show in Miami this Friday with a bunch of friends so that should be fun. (First show in about 8 months!) We have a new bass player too. Introducing Nick the Greek: one of the sickest bass players in south Florida, and a damn fin recording engineer too. He's a great dude, and I know every band that's been through a million line up changes says the same thing, but I really think we are a stronger band now than ever before. Our new record will definitely be a testament to that. We are recording in December with our great friend Erik Rutan once again. We have been doing some pre-production at my house though, so be on the look out for demos to be posted soon. We promise. Until then, take care. We love you all."
Frostmoon Eclipse Guitarist On New Stroszek Album
Releases Claudio Alcara, guitarist and founder member of Black Metallers FROSTMOON ECLIPSE has finished work on “Songs of Remorse”, the first album from his own band STROSZEK. Due for release shortly on the God is Myth label, the line-up includes Alcara on vocals and guitars, Richard on drums and Davide on bass.
“Songs of Remorse” is a complete departure from the Black Metal for which the guitarist is best known, although still much in evidence is the distinctive guitar style that gives FROSTMOON ECLIPSE - a band that tempers the Old School Black Metal sound with touches of lyrical acoustic guitar - their trademark sound. Comments Alcara “I wouldn’t call STROSZEK a ‘side project’ as such, it’s really just my material; something that has been inside me for a long time. The album title “Songs of Remorse” is fairly indicative of the subject matter. My manager asked me to define the style, and when I couldn’t she described it as being ‘Like driving along a deserted highway late at night with just your thoughts for company’. She nailed the feel of the album exactly”.
Alcara is currently preparing material for the next STROSZEK release, which will be a split with the US Psychedelic band GODHEADSCOPE, the solo project of Matt Rosin (CINDERVOICE, DEAD RAVEN CHOIR). As well as STROSZEK and FROSTMOON ECLIPSE, whose latest album “Another Face In Hell” has just been released, Alcara is also involved in the French Ambient band AERE AETERNUS, which includes members of DARK SANCTUARY and MACABRE OMEN in its ranks.
Three tracks from “Songs of Remorse” can be heard on the official STROSZEK MySpace page.

Rammstein Management Dismisses Singer Departure
According to The Gauntlet, RAMMSTEIN's management has dismissed as a hoax a press release that was issued on the band's behalf announcing the departure of singer Till Lindemann and addition of En Esch (KMFDM, PIGFACE, SLICK IDIOT) as his replacement. "[The news that Till would be leving the band following the completion of the band's new record] is not true and was not released by either band or management," a group representative said. "We have no idea where this comes from. The band is writing a new album at present."
RAMMSTEIN will issue its "Völkerball" DVD in the U.S. in September. The exact release date will be announced soon.
RAMMSTEIN's latest album, "Rosenrot", received its long-overdue U.S. release in March 2006 via Universal Music. The CD, which was certified platinum in Germany for sales in excess of 200,000 copies within two weeks of release in October 2005, topped the official album chart in Germany, Austria and Finland, and landed at No. 2 in Sweden and Denmark, No. 4 in the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, No. 5 in France, No. 6 in Mexico, No. 11 in Italy and No. 29 in the U.K. In addition, "Rosenrot" achieved gold status in Austria, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.
RAMMSTEIN's track "Mein Teil" was nominated in the "Best Metal Performance" category at the 2006 Grammy Awards.
New Ill Nino Album Pushed Back
ILL NINO's new album, "Enigma" (Cement Shoes Records), has reportedly had its release date pushed back to September 25 from the previously announced July 17. A track from the CD, entitled "Alibi of Tyrants", is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.
ILL NINO's last release was the "The Undercover Sessions" EP, which came out in November through Cement Shoes. The CD was comprised of three of ILL NINO's favorite cover songs from bands they loved growing up as fans, and two brand new songs — all overseen by legendary producer Andy Johns (LED ZEPPELIN, VAN HALEN, OZZY OSBOURNE), Dave Chavarri and Eddie Wohl (ANTHRAX, 36 CRAZYFISTS, MACHINE HEAD). The EP was the band's first release through Cement Shoes following their split with the Roadrunner label.
The Scarlet Hourglass Post New Song Online
Up and coming British death metal act The Scarlet Hourglass have posted a new song on their official myspace titled "Yorkshire's Task". The song, along with the other two tracks on the page and several others will be featured on their forthcoming EP "Newborn". The band has also recently signed a deal with After The Blackout Records.
Metallica Live Earth Appearance Boosts Album Sales
According to SoundGenerator.com, METALLICA's record sales enjoyed a boost of around 800% in the wake of their appearance at Live Earth in London.
As with Live 8 in 2005, bands signing-up for the event saw the huge viewing figures translate into serious album sales, and the FOO FIGHTERS did best, with an increase of around 1,000%, according to Tesco's combined in-store and online download sales.
The Queen of Pop, MADONNA, saw a more modest rise of 420% in album sales during the week before the Live Earth concert at the new Wembley Stadium.
An industry pundit told the Daily Star this week, "Some cynical observers might say there was more to it than just playing for a good cause."
In a recent interview with Norway's NRK, METALLICA frontman James Hetfield stated about the band's appearance at Live Earth, "I really avoided the press around the Live Earth day. I didn't quite agree with what was going on there. Politics drive me crazy, and I don't like talking politics. Politics get in the way of things; they get in the way of getting things done, and getting our music across is what we wanna do — we don't wanna cloud it with 'Democrat, Republican,' whatever. Our philosophy is 'think for yourself' at the end of the day — do what you think feels right. I really believe that humans will survive. I have a lot of faith in mankind that we will overcome and adapt — whatever it is; whether it's man-made or God-made, or Earth/Mother Nature — we have a lot of smart people on this planet that will make something good out of bad."
Max Cavalera Announces Title Of New Project
Metal Hammer writer Jerry Ewing spoke to SOULFLY/ex-SEPULTURA Max Cavalera about his new collaboration with his brother Igor (ex-SEPULTURA).
Metal Hammer: Who made the first moves to get in touch between you and Igor?
Max: "Igor made the contact. I was touring Europe doing a lot of festivals and I got a phone call and someone passed me the phone and said, 'It's your brother,' and I almost had a fucking heart attack. I hadn't talked to my brother in like ten years and this guy hands me the phone like it's the pizza man! He just said, 'What's up, man? I gotta see you.' I hadn't even thought about a project at that time. But we kept in touch and later on I told him I'd written some songs with him in mind and did he want to come over and play. They don't fit anywhere else, not SOULFLY, not SEPULTURA. It wasn't like I was asking him to join SOULFLY, it was something new and fresh. Like a new beginning of our lives. He liked it very much and that's where we are at the moment."
Metal Hammer: That must feel pretty good?
Max: "It feels really cool. It's something we've both wanted to do for a very long time. We had to go through this ten year period and it's something that we couldn't force. I was very patient about it and just kept doing my thing, SOULFLY and stuff, and Igor was doing his."
Metal Hammer: Have you got a name for the project yet?
Max: "Yes, it's called INFLIKTED. It's a real metal/punk thing. Anyone who knows SEPULTURA will know we were pioneering in terms of introducing metal fans to bands like DEAD KENNEDYS, working with Jello Biafra before he did anything with anyone else in metal. I love metal but me and Igor also love hardcore and punk, so it's coming from that mentality."
Metal Hammer: So can we expect some pretty extreme sounds?
Max: "Very punk, very hardcore, but also metal too. You'll hear stuff and you'll know it's coming from songs like 'Arise' and 'Beneath The Remains'. I've even done some death metal stuff 'Morbid Visions'-style which I haven't done for ages. Everyone was into it and it was such fun to record that shit. And we did fun stuff like a POSSESSED cover, 'The Exorcist', but we did it in a more punk style."
Metal Hammer: How worried are you that people will look at you reuniting with Igor and jump the gun by assuming it's some kind of SEPULTURA reunion?
Max: "I tried to do this as naturally as possible. If you play together and that's the way the music comes out then you can't really change anything, even if you wanted to. There's a natural fucking energy coming out of both of us playing together. It's something I have no control over, because we have both worked on different things for many years and learned different stuff. Using the first drum track, that's something I wish I would have done with SEPULTURA so many times. Things like 'Refuse/Resist' or even 'From The Past Comes The Storms' from 'Schizophrenia', the best take was the first one but we re-recorded it and screwed it up. I listen to the album and then the tapes and the first take was so much better, so much more powerful. So my attitude [with this] was to try and capture that, but everything else is natural man. But you do hear a lot of SEPULTURA and SOULFLY, and also in what Igor drums on but that's understandable."
Aeon Sets Title For New Album Due This Fall
Sweden's AEON has set "Rise to Dominate" as the title of its new album, due in early September via Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2005's "Bleeding the False" (Unique Leader) was recorded at Empire Studio and will contain "twelve tracks of technical death metal," according to a posting on the band's web site. The CD was mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY) at Unisound Studios.
AEON last year inked a multi-album deal with Metal Blade Records. The band also announced the addition of bassist Max Carlberg to the group's ranks.
Incantation Discusses South American Tour Issues
Incantation's John McEntee releases a strong statement about Cathedral Rock Productions in regards to the Sourth American tour issues:
“There were many problems working with Cathedral Rock Productions. I would like to let everyone in the metal community know that he is a real con-artist and after talking to many bands and promoters that have worked with him we all agree the conclusion is he is a all around a rip-off that does not care about the bands, fans or anything else except how much money he can scam from everyone.”
John continues, “Even with the major problems and financial loss that Cathedral Rock Productions had plagued on us, we still made the best of the tour and have worked with many great people. We also want to thank all the Incantation supporters that have came out to the shows along with everyone that have helped us make the best of our problems with Cathedral Rock Productions."
INCANTATION would like all metal fans to read John's whole statement, as well as a detailed account from Tour Manager Roberto Lizarraga, on their website.
INCANTATION have no intention of letting this incident affect their loyalty to fans as they are currently preparing for the upcoming European and Mexico tours. See the tour dates below: More...

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER has commented on their upcoming release "NOCTURNAL":
“Hey troops, Trevor here from The Black Dahlia Murder. Just stopping by to tell you about our new album, Nocturnal, which is currently being mastered. From the songs, to the artwork, to the sound quality itself, we could not be more pleased with the results... We are all feeling like proud fathers over here. The album was recorded by Eric Rachel at Trax East, and mixed by Jason Seucof at Audiohammer... it sounds absolutely crushing. Philosophical Insight To Metallica
BBC Radio 1's "Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter" aired an interview last week with William Irwin, a professor of philosophy at King's College and the author of the book "Metallica and Philosophy". During the discussion, Irwin draws parallels between the songs of METALLICA and the writings of famous philosophers, including Rene Descartes, Plato, Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. The specific tracks discussed are "Master of Puppets", "One" and "Wherever I May Roam", and each is backed with APOCALYPTICA covering METALLICA. Listen to a replay of the program at this location. Excerpts from Irwin's book can be found at Google.
Sepultura Guitarist Andreas Kisser Checks In
Brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA are in the middle of European headlining tour in support of their "Dante XXI" CD. The group's guitarist, Andreas Kisser, has issued the following update:
"We came from Hungary, from the region of Tokaj. It was a great festival with many local bands and a great crowd. We closed the night with our complete set and was another great gig. We feel better by the minute on stage and it's an awesome feeling. We also tried the Goulash, a very traditional soup in Hungary with the Tokaj wine, very famous in the region too. That's one of the best things about touring the world, the chance to try out and taste different foods and drinks made by the local masters. Priceless!
"We arrived yesterday [July 15] to play at the Masters of Rock festival, too bad we missed the MOTÖRHEAD gig, but the day was a good one. It's a nice little town, it was very hot and a lot of people around. we met some Sepulfreaks that gave us a lecture on local beer and local food. It was really great! Later we watched STRATOVARIUS and CHILDREN OF BODOM.
"Today [July 16] we are going to a sprts bar to watch the Copa America Final between Brazil and Argentina. It's going to be a war! BRAZIL!" [NOTE: Brazil beat Argentina 3-0]
IPC TV, which produces and broadcasts a variety of community programs in Portuguese to an increasing Brazilian community in Japan, has posted a lengthy video report on SEPULTURA, featuring interviews with the band and footage of the group performing in Brazil and France.
This past winter SEPULTURA finished filming the second video from their "Dante XXI" album, for the song "Ostia". The clip was shot on March 3 at a studio in São Paulo prior to the band's departure for their European tour. During the following week, the video crew and the main actor shot the outdoor scenes in downtown São Paulo. The script, which adapts the story from the book "The Divine Comedy" to the modern days, was directed by Geraldo Moraes.
Candlemass Bassist Talks New Album And Vocalist
Chad Bowar from About Heavy Metal recently conducted an interview with CANDLEMASS bassist Leif Edling. Here are some extracts from the conversation:
Chad Bowar: Are you looking forward to having the album ("King Of The Grey Islands") released and moving forward again?
Leif Edling: "Yes. We just want to get out there and play now. We haven't played for 18 months, and that's really what we want to do. That's what it is all about."
Chad Bowar: How far along with the album were you when you found out Messiah (Marcolin) was leaving?
Leif Edling: "The album was recorded last May, over a year ago. Messiah left in April last year. In October we hoped that he would still finish the album."
Chad Bowar: You searched the world for new vocalist.
Leif Edling: "We listened to over 80 singers. It was quite a big search. We listened to 30 guys from Sweden and about 50 guys from Europe and America. We took three months for the search before we got in touch with Robert (Lowe - SOLITUDE AETURNUS)."
Chad Bowar: What was it about Robert that attracted you to him?
Leif Edling: "We've always known about him and always liked his voice since the first SOLITUDE AETURNUS albums. We liked the fact that he has this classic Metal voice, but he's also very emotional in his style of singing. He was perfect for CANDLEMASS, and when we listened to the new album it was quite obvious that he might be the one. When he put his voice on the record and did the new songs, he really blew us away. When we listen to him on this record I think it's pretty obvious that he is the right choice."
Chad Bowar: Do you have any concerns about him being in another band at the same time?
Leif Edling: "No, not at all. We are in contact with SOLITUDE AETURNUS. I'm pretty sure we can solve anything. They are not super active right now. If they want to do an album next year, we can lay low while they do that. I don't think we will have a problem. It is a long way to Sweden from America, but Robert is willing to travel and he is really easy to work with."
Chad Bowar: The music on the new album seems heavier and more dynamic. Would you agree?
Leif Edling: "Yes, I guess so. It is a natural progression from the previous album and I think it's a little bit heavier. It's a little more complex, a little bit more gloomy, a little bit more Metal as well. I think there is more of everything on it. The previous one was a little more straightforward and this one is a little heavier and more complex."
Chad Bowar: What does the title "King Of The Grey Islands" signify?
Leif Edling: "The Grey Islands is a place where you go to when you are sad or hurt or really pissed off. It's the place where you lock yourself in when you don't want anybody to be able to reach you. That's the meaning behind it. The king of the Grey Islands is the fictional character. Every song on the album is about emotions, negative emotions, and the king of the Grey Islands represents all of these negative emotions. It eventually leads up to the character's suicide in the last song. It shows what all of these negative emotions can lead to if you let them take control."
Chad Bowar: You are playing European festivals this summer. Any chance of making it to the US for a tour later on?
Leif Edling: "Early next year I would say. We are pretty busy this summer and we're going to tour in Europe in the fall. We go to Australia in November in we have some gigs in December as well. We are talking about going to America, so hopefully somebody will give us an offer to come over and put a package together with CANDLEMASS and a couple of other bands. You need somebody to give you an invitation to come. If people in America like the album, if it gets good reviews and people buy the record, I'm pretty sure someone will make us an offer."

Deceased Part Ways With Guitarist
After 22 years of playing in the Virginia-based old-school thrash metal band DECEASED, guitarist Mark Adams has announced his departure from the group. "I have had a lifetime of great memories playing in DECEASED for so many years," Mark says in a statement. "It's really crazy thinking back to how long ago it actually was when King [Fowley, vocals] and I first started this band. A lot of blood, sweat and tears has been given since then and I am proud of what we have accomplished. We had a hell of a run.
"This has been the hardest decision I've ever had to make in my life, but I know it's the right one. Even though everyone is living far away from each other these days and is moving on with their lives, we still remain family and of course, best friends. I wish everyone in the band the very best."
Commented King: "Mark has made a big decision to step down from playing in the band. We are all sad to see him go, but we are all family first and foremost and we respect his decision and support him 100%. The band will be carrying on, with Shane Fuegel stepping in for the new LP 'Surreal Overdose' alongside Mike Smith in the studio. This will be the 'recording lineup' for the future. Shane has done a tremendous job and has become family so quick with us. We all feel this is a great fit to the band. As for live gigs, we will be working in a second guitarist to play alongside Shane in the future. More on this as we get it together!
"I loved all the years growing up and writing/creating music with Mark and love him dearly. Sadly, life doesn't stay at age 18 forever and we all get older and more things enter everyones life at some point. He's been a brilliant player and a big contribution to the band in every way and he will be missed. But he's always gonna be my brother and one of my very best friends, and we'll always be just a phone call away. He's also gonna stay on and help with the website, which is great (if I can get him to put some more classic stories together for the 'missing years'). So the Chainsaw will still be on the attack in the world of DECEASED.
Mark's last show with DECEASED will take place in New York City on August 25.
In other news, King writes on the band's web site, "I'm starting a new label for DECEASED releases. It's called Shrieks From The Hearse Records and all DECEASED releases will now come from this label including the new record (which will also be alongside our good friend Scooter's Malt Soda Records). This is the new home of DECEASED releases and we are stepping down from Thrash Corner Records who have been superb to us in every way possible. I just now have the means to do our own DECEASED label and that's always the easiest way to handle things. A re-release of 'Fearless Undead Machines' is coming soon, followed by our new record 'Surreal Overdose'. More info as it unfolds!"
