Behemoth Lands On Billboard Charts
Polish extreme metal titans BEHEMOTH's new album, "The Apostasy," debuted at #149 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. This entry also marks Century Media's fifth highest Billboard Top 200 debut.
This is a phenomenal feat for a band of this caliber and a further testament to their undying work ethic over the past few years throughout the US. The band will return to North America on a massive co-headlining tour this fall; details will follow in the coming weeks.
Nergal states: "I just received a phone call from our label telling me that we debuted at #149 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Well, let me say that this is not only a huge day for us, but for extreme metal as a whole. When we were arriving to the U.S. shores 4-5 years ago I would have never guessed that we would end up on the Billboard charts. We've invested so much in this band throughout the years and it's great to see it result in something this massive.
"However, this amazing accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of our die-hard U.S. fans and the great Century Media staff who helped bring us to this level. I'm seriously thrilled beyond belief and this is just the beginning. Horns up!"
Behemoth has already being hailed as this year's breakthrough artist due primarily to their unrelenting energy, savage brutality and uncompromising vision. The group go onstage at 4:15 PM everyday in the direct support, non-rotating slot right before second stage headliners HATEBREED, so fans can expect a lengthy set backed with their biggest stage production yet.
The group recently shot a new video for the track 'Prometherion' with acclaimed director Soren (All That Remains, Unearth). Look for it everywhere early next month.
While most bands struggle to evolve and stay vital within the extreme music genre, Behemoth manages to do so effortlessly. The Apostasy is destined to continue the legacy.

Site Update
A Note on Banner Ads on Metal Underground.com
I just wanted to make a brief note about the advertising here on metalunderground.com. I've made some changes that should mean you all see a lot more relevant metal ads rather than the usual minimally relevant ads that are often seen on here and other sites. Upon implementing this new system, I also wanted to ask that if anyone experiences any problems - especially a file download dialogue - to let me know about it. If something like that happens, it's not adware or spyware or anything, but likely a snippet of HTML code downloading as plain text.
I think the ads will not only be well-received by our readers (you), but will also compliment the site design a lot better than the "other" kinds of ads we've run in the past. Lastly, I know many people would prefer not to see any ads on Metalunderground.com, but the advertising helps pay for the costs associated with running this site including hardware, hosting fees, other services and a tiny bit of advertising as well.

New Album From The Legendary Clawfinger Released
Less than two years after their last album “Hate Yourself With Style”, the Swedish Crossover legends Clawfinger are returning with their new album “Life Will Kill You”. Again, the band have managed to deliver high quality songs with catchy choruses and killer hooks. To be honest: “Life Will Kill You” is probably their best album since the sensational debut “Deaf Dumb Blind” released back in 1993. Listen to the aggressive opener “The Price You Pay”, the sing-along hymn “Life Will Kill You” and “Where Can We Go From Here” and you will find your favourite Clawfinger songs since “Nigger”, “Tomorrow”, “Do What I Say” and “The Biggest And The Best”!
Once again the album was produced by the band itself in their own Fear And Loathing Studios in Spånga (Sweden), a studio they run together with their good friends Meshuggah.

"Recordings are going extremly well so far and we are simply overwhelmed how impressive the new songs sound. These are definitely the best BRAINSTORM songs that have seen the light of day yet, no kidding, no blank phrases — this is the ultimate BRAINSTORM album so far. Really can't wait to let you hear!" Sepultura Guitarist Schedules London Guitar Clinic
The Guitar Institute (part of London, England's Institute of Contemporary Music Performance) has announced that SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser will deliver an exclusive clinic during the Institute's Metal Hammer Weekender this summer.
This fantastic two-day weekend event, sponsored by Metal Hammer magazine, is the ultimate metal workout, building up the skills needed to tackle the most demanding elements of this style. It will take place August 18-19 and will be hosted by the Institute's resident metal gurus, Martin Goulding and Charlie Griffiths. Andreas will host his exclusive metal guitar clinic for students on Saturday, August 18.
And as if this weren't enough, Pin and Dan from SIKTH will also participate in the event and the weekend's top shredder will win a fantastic pro-guitar rig worth over £1,200, provided by Line 6 and Peavey.
To attend this clinic you must either be enrolled on the Metal Hammer course OR you must be a current or past student of the Institute. To sign up call 020 7328 0222.
About Andreas Kisser: Andreas was born in Brazil in 1968 and started playing acoustic guitar in 1981, learning the basic chords with popular Brazilian music. He later discovered KISS and QUEEN, and that changed his life. In his early years Andreas was hugely influenced by OZZY, BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, TWISTED SISTER, WHITESNAKE, VENOM and METALLICA. He learnt a lot from all those guitarists, plus bands like PINK FLOYD and YES and guitarists such as Eric Clapton, John Williams, Romero Brothers, Leo Brower, Baden Powell, Villa Lobos, etc.
Andreas joined SEPULTURA in 1987 after meeting the band on a holiday. He recorded his first LP, "Schizophrenia", the same year. With that album SEPULTURA got a contract to release the next record worldwide.
Andreas is currently on the road with SEPULTURA, touring all over the world. He is also working on his first solo album, which he hopes to release in early 2008.
Down Announce Tentative Release Date
DOWN — the acclaimed New Orleans band featuring CORROSION OF CONFORMITY guitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan, drummer Jimmy Bower (EYEHATEGOD, SUPERJOINT RITUAL guitarist), bassist Rex Brown (ex-PANTERA), guitarist Kirk Windstein (CROWBAR), and vocalist Philip Anselmo (SUPERJOINT RITUAL, ex-PANTERA) — is scheduled to release its long-awaited third full-length album, tentatively titled "Down III", on September 25 through the Independent Label Group (ILG), which is composed of Warner Music Group Corp.'s Asylum Records, East West Records and Cordless Recordings. Producer Warren Riker (CROWBAR, SUBLIME) helmed the effort, for which the band had reportedly composed more than 18 tracks.
DOWN bassist Rex Brown recently stated about the CD, "In a few short moons you will be hearing the most fck'n amazing and classic DOWN record ever made. Strap on your seatbelts and enjoy the fck'n ride. This is the real deal, folks; it ain't no bullshit. So smoke whiskey and let me know who's ready!?!"
DOWN guitarist Kirk Windstein commented, "We record tunes on two-inch tape and then drop them to ProTools. The mixing process is a lot easier with automation. But believe me, we jam our balls off on every tune. This ain't no computerized, polished nu-metal CD. This is the real deal!!"

Aug. 05 - Thebarton Theatre - Adelaide, AUS

Paul Di'anno Discusses Anthrax Job
Rock N Roll Universe recently conducted an interview with former IRON MAIDEN vocalist and solo artist Paul Di'Anno. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
Rock N Roll Universe: You recently released a new album here in the U.S., "The Living Dead", which is your first all new album in nearly six years. How do you feel the album turned out, and why has it been so long between albums with all new material?
Paul Di'Anno: The record industry is not what it used to be, so I shopped material for a deal just like everyone else...and I've been quite busy playing live the last couple of years.
Rock N Roll Universe: Also recently you put out "The Classics: The Iron Maiden Years", which consists of 12 re recorded versions of songs culled from the first two IRON MAIDEN albums. Now, there are some "fans" who have been very critical of this release, saying that you're still trading upon past glories by recording versions of songs you originally recorded over 25 years ago. What led you to the decision to put out the album, and what is your response to someone who might feel that way?
Paul Di'Anno: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I've always thought the first MAIDEN album sounded awful (I know Steve [Harris] agrees with me), and I wanted to update the songs a bit. I'm hardly making any money of it, so it's not like I rip anyone off.
Rock N Roll Universe: It's been over 25 years since the first MAIDEN album came out, which makes the band eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Is that something which you would like to see happen, and what do you feel your chances would be to be inducted as well? What are your feelings regarding all of that?
Paul Di'Anno: Don't really care for stuff like that. We got enough respect from our fans, and that's more than enough.
Rock N Roll Universe: How would you rate your vocal successors in IRON MAIDEN, Paul?
Paul Di'Anno: MAIDEN is a very different band with Bruce. He's great though. But I do the early stuff better, I think.
Rock N Roll Universe: Several months back there was an online petition started by fans of ANTHRAX to get the members of that band to consider you as the next vocalist for the band. What's your opinion regarding that, and if you were asked by the band, would you consider joining?
Paul Di'Anno: I don't mind. ANTHRAX is a great band, and Scott [Ian] is a great bloke. But I don't think I'm the man for the job.
Rock N Roll Universe: You've been in the business for over three decades now. Are there any goals, musically or otherwise that you'd still like to achieve?
Paul Di'Anno: I really want to make a classic crooner album...some old +Elvis tunes, Sinatra...I'm not kidding!
Dragonforce's Valley Of The Damned To Be Re-Issued
This press release has been posted on DRAGONFORCE's official website:
DRAGONFORCE to re-release their debut album "Valley Of The Damned" - remixed and remastered with a bonus DVD in October 2007. The remixed debut and their second album "Sonic Firestorm" will also be available for the first time on picture disc vinyl. Below is a statement from guitarist Herman Li regarding this re-release package:
"For some time now we've been thinking about how great it would be that one day we could remix and remaster the 'Valley Of The Damned' album and re-release it. I still remember the amount of time and effort we spent recording that album, and financing it myself! Ignoring all the deadlines that were set for the delivery of the master tapes, we went into a lengthy recording period only to finally run out of money which meant we didn't have the time to give the songs the mix and production sound they deserve. Although many people thought the original release had a great production, it is incomparable to the massive production sound on the albums 'Sonic Firestorm' and 'Inhuman Rampage'. To tell you the truth, the original release was mixed in only 36 hours as we spent most of the time working on capturing the best performances and improving the songs as much as possible.
Now, after 18 months on the road, three times around the world for the 'Inhuman Rampage' Tour, our wish is granted with a bigger budget, better gear, more time and more experience to bring new life to 'Valley Of The Damned'. I know many old fans still consider 'Valley Of The Damned' to be our classic album. It is an album full of great songs that a lot of our new fans still haven't discovered yet unless they see us live since we have included songs from our debut album in all of our shows.
We have spent the last three weeks with producer Karl Groom remixing all the songs and giving more attention to detail than we previously had a chance to do. The final result is exactly what we want now, and beyond what was possible when we first finished 'Valley Of The Damned' four years ago. We are including a DVD in this package because we want to give you, the fans, as much as possible on this re-release. One thing is for sure, this jam packed DVD took way longer than I initially thought and I definitely under estimated the time it takes to put so much archive footage on it. This DVD will give you a feel of what was happening before we started to spend our lives on tour buses and airplanes!
For the November / December UK and European Tour we intend to play a few more songs from 'Valley' that we haven't played for a long time, so hopefully we'll see you at one of the shows. I think all you diehard fans will love this package which will be released worldwide in early October and who knows, we might even get a few new fans along the way!
Best to you all,
Herman Li"
