Napalm Death sign Wolfpack Unleashed
According to a recent press release by Napalm Records:
"Wolfpack Unleashed combines heroic choruses in the style of Bay Area Thrash Metal greats such as Metallica, Megadeth, and Testament with the best of elements found in the Gothenburg sound. The band catapults the classic Bay Area Thrash Metal of old into the new millenium. Neck-breaking, highspeed riffs, furious solos, brutal precision drummung, and technical prowess perfectly merge together with epic melodies, brawling choruses, and memorable songwriting. Far removed from myriad Retro-bands, WPU dusts off the genre and in 2007 still remains true to the one and only motto: Thrash till Death!"

Ulver Announce Release Date For Shadows of the Sun
Below is a message from ULVER:
"Many of you have been waiting for sound, and we are sorry for the silence. We needed to be alone, without the hustle and bustle of the living. We are uncomfortable with the world, the industry and our place. We have been working, sluggishly, well aware we could end up with nothing. Nonetheless we believe we have succeeded in giving our fears some kind of form. SHADOWS OF THE SUN, our 7th full-length album, is finished and will be released October 1st. We feel it is our most personal record to date. Low-key, dark, and tragic. As we are."
Ulver's "A Quick Fix of Melancholy EP" will soon be released on 10" vinyl format via Viva Hate Records and Flamme Noire. The website is taking pre-orders now.
For details on the upcoming release and recording process, an extensive interviews was recently featured in < a href="http://www.ztmag.com/">Zero Tolerance Magazine, out 07/07/07, and is available in shops throughout the UK, a lot of mainland Europe, the US, Australia and NZ.

To/Die/For Cancel Canadian Tour Dates
The organizers of TO/DIE/FOR's current North American tour have released the following statement regarding the Finnish melancholy rock band's Canadian shows:
"Due to heightened security in and out of the U.S. because of the recent attacks in England and Scotland, TO/DIE/FOR have been forced to postpone the Canadian leg of their tour, to be [rescheduled for] a later date. The band is very sorry that they are not able to perform for their fans in Canada at this time, but do promise to make it up to them as soon as feasibly possible."
The affected dates are as follows:
Jul. 22 - Toronto, ON @ The Reverb
Jul. 23 - London, ON @ Club Pandemic
TO/DIE/FOR is currently seeking a new label home following its split with Spinefarm Records earlier in the year.
Kataklysm Issue Studio Update
KATAKLYSM singer Maurizio Iacono has the following studio update:
"I have to take back a few things I said on my previous report, the way the album first started to get put together it seemed to be a lot more dark but in melodic way, but what makes writing so fun is you never know how the end result will be. Yesterday we finished a song called 'Breathe To Dominate' and I could already see the pit going crazy and being a live smash.
Smoothest album we have written in years. I thought In The Arms Of Devastation was a very good experience but this one is more like everyone looking at each other after completing a song… and saying… 'Perfect'.
We worked on another new song this morning, a song called 'The Vultures Are Watching'
The band is really focused. It's the first time in a very long time all four of us are writing an album together in the same room. Feeling good!"

King Says Slayer Will Never Do Farewell "Sequels"
LiveDaily recently conducted an interview with SLAYER guitarist Kerry King. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
On SLAYER's upcoming tour with MARILYN MANSON:
"It has the potential to be great — and hopefully it is. To me, it pretty much depends on what Manson plays. He can come out, guns blazing, and impress the hell out of our fans maybe, or he could come out playing something that our fans don't really get into as much. To me, the wild card is what Manson plays."
"[SLAYER's manager] was talking to me about [doing a tour with MARILYN MANSON] all the time. I was always on the fence because I didn't know where Manson was these days, [or] what he was going to bring to the show. I never met him. I just met him for the first time a couple of weeks ago. He's a very smart dude, as you can imagine, and he carries his own absinthe around, so me and him are going to get along fine."
"We're splitting production, stage, everything else. When we play, none of his stuff's on there. When he plays, none of our stuff's on there. He wanted to [go on after us]. I said, "Cool, man." I like not playing last all the time. We're playing the same amount of time so, essentially, we get to wear out the crowd. By the time we're done and he gets on stage, I'm already backstage and having a shot with my buddies."
On whether he has any plans to break up SLAYER:
"I don't have any idea when that's going to be. The only farewell plans we have is when we do it, we're going to do it and that's going to be it. We're not going to do the farewell tour sequel or anything like that. If you want to come see us, you better come now because we're not coming back. I just think it's so phony when people do that. How many times has KISS done it? How many times has everyone done it? Like, are you really going away this time, or do you want more of my money?"
Hammet Says A Bit More About New Metallica Album
NME TV sat down for a chat with METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett on Sunday, July 8 prior to the band's sold-out concert at Wembley Stadium in London, England. Watch the 10-minute interview at YouTube.
When asked how work is progressing on METALLICA's long-awaited new album, Hammett said, "It's coming along fairly well. We wrote 22 songs with the intention of recording 12 or 14, with the intention of putting maybe nine or ten on the new album, depending on how they all turn out once they're all finally recorded and mixed and done. The music is really heavy — surprise, surprise — very, very progressive; different from anything we've ever done before again. Yes, there are guitar solos. Yes, the production will be slightly better. We're using [producer] Rick Rubin [SLIPKNOT, AUDIOSLAVE, SLAYER, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS]. We're not recording in HQ [the band's rehearsal studio/headquarters in San Rafael, California]; we're recording down in L.A. at a place called Sound City. And we're just about to finish the drums, the drumming aspect of it. And when we get back to the States, that's when Rob [Trujillo, bass], James [Hetfield, guitar/vocals] and I start playing our instruments and building tracks. We're all pretty psyched about it. The material, we feel, is very, very strong. I like that to think that it sits somewhere between '…And Justice For All' and the 'black' album — that little niche right there. And like I said, again, it's very, very different.
"We're actually shooting for an early 2008 release. I would be extremely surprised if it comes out sooner than that. But I would be extremely disappointed if it came out later than that, let's just say."
Sweden's TV4 interviewed METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich on Thursday (July 12) approximately two hours before the band's headlining performance at Stadion in Stockholm. Watch the 12-minute unedited question-and-answer session at this location.
When asked about METALLICA's upcoming CD, Ulrich replied, "It's the first time in almost 20 years that we're working with a producer other than Bob Rock. We're working with Rick Rubin, who's made records with everybody from the CHILI PEPPERS to JOHNNY CASH to SLIPKNOT to whatever… So we're excited to be working with a different producer. It's interesting, it's stimulating. The stuff that I've heard… [Laughs] … which is pretty much all of it, is very heavy, a little more dynamic than the last record, 'St. Anger', and I think that what he's really trying to do is capture an excitement and capture kind of a moment and trying to get us away from spending too much time thinking about what we're doing so he's trying to get us just to play in the studio. It sounds like it has a lot of energy and a lot of kid of good, energetic moments. But James [Hetfield] is gonna start singing in August and [we'll] do some overdubs. We're gonna spend another couple of months in the fall to finish the overdubs and we should hopefully mix the record by November and have it out in the early spring."
A soundboard recording of METALLICA's new track, tentatively dubbed "The Other New Song", recorded during the band's appearance on June 29, 2007 at the Bilbao BBK Live festival in in Bilbao, Spain has been posted at YouTube. METALLICA previously played the same track live on August 15, 2006 at Seoul Olympic Main Stadium in Seoul, South Korea (watch professionally filmed video footage with soundboard audio at this location).
A high-quality video clip of METALLICA performing the "first" new song during their headlining appearance at the Gelredome in Arnhem, Holland on June 8, 2006 as part of their "Escape From The Studio '06" European tour is available at YouTube. More...
