Manson Says He's More Comfortable With Himself Now

Launch Radio Networks reports: Marilyn Manson says he endured one of the darkest periods of his life while recording his latest album, "Eat Me, Drink Me". The shock-rocker went through a painful separation with wife Dita Von Teese late last year and even questioned whether he would continue making music. But now Manson told Launch he is more comfortable with his persona on and off stage and with the company he keeps. "I feel like I've gotten to that point where I don't have to feel awkward or guilty about one or the other, which has always been a problem in my life," he said. "It's either been about who I am offstage or who I am onstage that I've had problems in friendships and romance. I can do whatever I want now and not feel any regrets for it."

The 38-year-old Manson is currently dating 19-year-old actress Evan Rachel Wood. The teen star told the British edition of Elle that they didn't get involved romantically until Manson had separated from Von Teese.

Wood and Manson performed some explicit love scenes in the video for "Heart Shaped Glasses", the first single from "Eat Me, Drink Me".

Von Teese, meanwhile, told the U.K.'s Observer that she and Manson were "so terribly in love...I never took him for someone who would exploit our divorce for the sake of records. I don't think people realize he used our marriage bed in that music video to have sex with that girl (Wood)."

Manson begins a co-headlining tour with SLAYER on July 25 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Kylesa Offers Update, Plan on Writing New Material

Savannah sludge-rockers KYLESA have offered an update on the band from home:

“We're happy to announce that our video for ‘Hollow Severer’ will be airing on MTV2's Headbanger's Ball very soon,” guitarist/singer Laura Pleasants says. “You can view it now on YouTube. When viewed on Headbanger's Ball in the context of other heavy music videos, I think that our video will offer something a little different than the average live footage video. The depiction of the narration is abstracted and literal with the use of simple claymation and an overall raw energy is captured by David and Allie of My Good Eye (Goatwhore, The Acacia Strain). They were great and easy to work with and we hope to work with them again in the future.

“In general news, we've toured pretty heavily the past few months supporting our latest release, ‘Time Will Fuse its Worth,’ and everything went rather well. We've got a few shows starting today with awesome bands (Torche, Made Out Of Babies and Mouth Of The Architect), but we plan on taking some time off to write new material as we have a few projects coming up. Fun, creative projects, so stay in touch and we'll keep you updated.”

Having already toured alongside Genghis Tron, The Hidden Hand, Lacuna Coil, Modern Life Is War and Converge as well as appearing at Los Angeles Murderfest 3.0 and South By Southwest, KYLESA continues to support 'Time Will Fuse Its Worth.' Recorded by KYLESA guitarist/vocalist Philip Cope, the record saw a late October release through Prosthetic Records.

Here are the remaining upcoming KYLESA shows:

7/19 Orlando, FL - The Social (with Torche, Made Out of Babies, Mouth of the Architect)
7/20 Tampa, FL - Transitions Art Gallery @ Skatepark of Tampa (with Torche, Made Out of Babies, Mouth of the Architect)
7/21 Savannah, GA – Jinx (with Torche, Made out of Babies) More...

Himsa Post New Track Online, Embark On EU Tour

Century Media has given us a little update on rookie metalheads Himsa. The band's new metal assault, Summon In Thunder, is now set for a Sept. 18th release. Himsa will also head overseas this September for a month-long European tour alongside As I Lay Dying, Darkest Hour and Maroon. A U.S. fall tour announcement will also be made in the coming weeks.

Johnny Pettibone states; "Summon in Thunder - History has repeated itself in nature's vicious circle, giving a warning to the deterioration and collapse of humanity around us all. The heaviness of inspiration and failure, the strive to succeed and the pain of defeat. A call of cleansing for man's evils throughout the ages be it political, environmental, religious, or individual mental being. We all are guilty in the journey of survival."

Summon In Thunder will also include such exclusive extras as a video for the track "Unleash Carnage," a 15-minute making-of-the-album documentary, photo gallery and a bonus disc featuring tracks from an array of Century Media's most promising new artists. The scathing new track, "Big Timber," can now be streamed on the band's official MySpace page.

The disc's eye-popping cover art was handled by the renowned Paul Romano (Mastodon, The Red Chord).

Behemoth Hailed 2007 Ozzfest Breakthrough Artist

According to a Century Records press release:

After only a handful of Ozzfest performances Polish extreme metal titans Behemoth are already being hailed as this year’s breakthrough artist due primarily to their unrelenting energy, savage brutality and uncompromising vision. The group go onstage at 4:15PM everyday in the direct support, non-rotating slot right before second stage headliners Hatebreed, so fans can expect a lengthy set backed with their biggest stage production yet. Their much anticipated and critically acclaimed new album, The Apostasy, is now available in stores.

Nergal (vocals, guitars) states: “Ozzfest just started and I can tell you it feels great! We got a lot of new equipment and a new road crew that I’m really happy with, so it’s all working fine. The first few shows were better than I expected though it’s always a struggle to go on in the sun wearing all this gear, armor and masks. I wanted to thank all the people out there who came down and spent the whole day in the heat. You seriously rock. This is the ultimate metal tour and we couldn’t be happier about being a part of it.”

Behemoth also shot a new video for the track, “Prometherion,” with acclaimed director Soren (All That Remains, Unearth) yesterday in Los Angeles. Look for it everywhere early next month. Soren states: “Somewhere between the ideal of heaven and reality of hell falls the new Behemoth video. An expression of the fallenness of man and the will to crawl through our own painful condition towards hope. This is a painful video to make and watch.”

To celebrate the fact that Ozzfest is free this year, Behemoth wants to keep things free with their very own giveaway to the Ultimate Behemoth fan. One lucky winner will take home the entire Behemoth merchandise line (look below for all that you can win). Not to mention, they can wear all that gear while listening to the entire Behemoth music catalog as they play the tunes on their very own autographed ESP Guitar. That's right, ONE winner will take home the entire summer Behemoth merch line in addition Behemoth’s music catalog as well as an autographed ESP EX 50 guitar (with case). So as to not ignore the other fans who gave it a shot, the band would like to give 5 additional people an autographed "Lies" poster and autographed copy of their latest release The Apostasy. System of a Down Is Alive And Well, Says Bassist

Launch Radio Networks reports: SYSTEM OF A DOWN has been on hiatus since last year, with its members working on various side projects. This has naturally led to rumors that the band was breaking up permanently. But bassist Shavo Odadjian told Launch that SYSTEM OF A DOWN is far from over. "SYSTEM is alive and well," he said. "We're just not working together right now. We kind of like split up at first, but you know, we're brothers, man, we'll take bullets for each other. So it's like, you kind of miss each other after a while and you, one guy makes the first move, then another starts making phone calls....this is a juggernaut, man. SYSTEM OF A DOWN is my lifeline. It'll never go away. We could not make a record for 10 years — that's not gonna happen, but I'm just saying we could — and we'll come back strong."

Odadjian is launching a new online initiative called urSession.com (pronounced "your session"), a web-based music community that also doubles as a record company. The site is scheduled to go live within a few weeks.

The bassist is continuing his career as a video director and working on a side project with the WU-TANG CLAN's RZA that's called ACHOZEN.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN vocalist Serj Tankian will tentatively release his first solo CD, titled "Elect the Dead", on October 23.

Guitarist Daron Malakian has formed a new band called SCARS ON BROADWAY with SYSTEM drummer John Dolmayan, who is also launching an online comic book retailer at Torpedocomics.com.

Balfor Releases Promo and Video For Free Download

BALFOR, the Ukrainian band that defines its music as “Barbaric Black Metal” has joined the ever-increasing number of bands who are releasing their work for free download on the Internet. Rather than host the 4 track promo exclusively on their own website, the band have chosen to release their “Pure Barbaric” Promo through a net label, Nailed Skull.

Commented Thorgeir, BALFOR’s founder and front man: “It’s not something we would choose to do for the release of a full-length, but rather than self-releasing as some bands do, we decided to go the route of releasing our promo for free download. We were impressed with what Nailed Skull were doing. They aren’t just putting up the music and saying “Here it is, take it”, but they are presenting everything in a professional manner, with cover artwork as well, something that fans often miss out on when downloading for free, and they promote the bands they are working with. It seemed like the perfect way to bring the band to the attention of a wider audience, whilst at the same time enabling us to produce “hard copies” of the promo to send out for review and to labels. We’re very happy with the results, at the moment we’re averaging around 100 downloads a day, so we’re obviously reaching many more people than we would, had we self-released.”

Thorgeir (vocals/guitar) formed BALFOR in 1997 and the current line-up, which includes Berowar on bass and Erland on drums, continues to play fast, melodious Black Metal in which the influences of both Death Metal, and their country’s warrior past can be heard. “The reaction from fans to the new material has been amazing” says Thorgeir. “We’re getting reviews in the 8-9/10 region. We seem to be drawing interest not just from the Black Metal fans, but also Death Metal, and after we supported SuidAkrA, from amongst the pagan/Viking elements, which is very satisfying to us because we look on our music as a tribute to the Ukraine’s ancient past”.

The band is currently working on new material, and looking for a label to release the first full-length album. “Pure Barbaric” together with a live video filmed during the band’s recent tour with SuidAkrA can be downloaded for free from Nailed Skull and The Balfor website.
