The World Series Of Video Games (WSVG), presented by Intel, held it's second event on it's Guitar Hero II competitive circuit this past weekend in Dallas, Texas.
Newcomer to the circuit and Internet superstar Freddie Wong erupted the crowd and won the finals with an amazing performance of RUSH's 'YYZ'. He earned 27 points from the guest judges which included illustrious MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman VINCE NEIL, who judged on style and stage performance. Wong barely edged out Michael "Priest" Holmes who earned 26 points performing the hardest song in the game, BUCKETHEAD's 'Jordan'.
Wong earned $2,625 for his winning performance while Holmes gained $1,500 for his effort. The top two placers at the inaugural event of the season in Louisville placed third and fourth in Dallas, with Nikolai "Kov" Shish taking home $1,050 and David "WuLFe" Briers earning $600. All four contestants will gain $1,000 in travel money for the next stop on the circuit at the E For All event in Los Angeles, California.

"I didn't know you could actually play that good", an impressed Vince Neil comments on camera after Wong was named champion. "I've seen people mess around with it [Guitar Hero] before, but nothing like that."

The Monolith Deathcult Sign To Twilight-Vertrieb
Dutch death metallers THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT have scrapped their previously announced deal with Mascot Records and have signed with Twilight-Vertrieb. The band will enter Ground Zero studio with producer Pascal Altena to begin recording its new album, "Triumvirate", tentatively due in January/February 2008. Mixing and mastering duties will be handled by Guido Aalbers.
According to a press release, "heavy speculation has commenced on several Internet forums about which image the Dutch death metal chameleons will adopt this time."
Commented vocalist/bassist Robin: "After the politically incorrect Islam-slamming NILE clones on our catastrophic debut 'The Apotheosis' and our fasco-communist warmongering on the equally disastrous second album 'The White Crematorium', we'll be shape shifting into a different image. We'll have to do some research and find out where the money is these days. I bet groups of people are already collectively clenching their assholes as we speak."
Here is the "Triumvirate" track listing:
01. Androgynous One
I. The Tempelbuilder
II. Rex Ivdaeorvm – Eater of Worlds
III. Wrath of the Double Serpent
02. Kinderreich
03. Wrath of the Ba'ath
04. Laeodecian Hunger
05. Triumvirate
06. Master of the Bryansk Forest
07. Demigod
08. Den ensomme Nordens Dronning
I. Lonely Queen of the North
II. The Cellaring
III. She Who Reigns the Drowned Throne of the Tromsøfjord
09. Crucify (ARMY OF LOVERS cover)
10. Re-Desecration of the Black Stone
11. The Malleus Maleficarum Manuscript
Therion Sign With Nuclear Blast
THERION mainman Christofer Johnsson has issued the following update:
"I'm happy to announce that I've officially just prolonged the contract with Nuclear Blast Records for another five albums. Our souls now belongs to the innovative and dedicated little label from the village of Donzdorf [Germany], who through hard work and and honest dedication over the years have become the pearl of metal labels of all times. It's been 12 years since we signed with them and I look forwards to the upcoming 12 years."
THERION recently announced the departure of vocalist Mats Levén (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, KRUX, TREAT, AT VANCE) prior to the band's appearance at this year's Wacken Open Air festival in early August. His replacement in the group will be Thomas Vikström, who is best known to metal fans as the voice behind CANDLEMASS' "Chapter VI" album (1992).
THERION's latest studio album, the dual-disc "Gothic Kaballah", was released in North America on February 6 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Powerman 5000 To Release Live EP
"Mixing has begun on some stellar live recordings that we had in the vault!! As soon as we are finished they will be released as an EP and also be available for download. In the meantime writing continues on new material and we are back on tour next week! See ya on the road..."
POWERMAN 5000 recently parted ways with guitarists Johnny Heatley and Terry Corso but has yet to officially announce their replacements.
POWERMAN 5000's latest album, "Destroy What You Enjoy", was produced by Mudrock (AVENGED SEVENFOLD, GODSMACK), who also co-produced POWERMAN 5000's major label debut, "Mega!! Kung Fu Radio". New Municipal Waste Video To Be Directed By Troma
Legendary independent film company Troma Entertainment will shoot MUNICIPAL WASTE's music video next week in New York for the thrash party anthem "Headbanger Face Rip" from the band's latest album, "The Art of Partying".
Founded by Lloyd Kaufman in 1974, Troma is known the world over for its genre-defining B-movie style shock flicks that specialize in graphic violence, political satire and a bizarre sense of humour. Having produced classics such as "The Toxic Avenger", "Class Of Nuke 'Em High" and "Sgt Kabukiman, NYPD", this will be the perfect marriage of splatter-style visuals with MUNICIPAL WASTE's colorful high-energy thrash assault.
Commented Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma and creator of "The Toxic Avenger", "The Troma team and I are huge fans of Earache Records and MUNICIPAL WASTE, and we're excited to make 'Headbanger Face Rip' into a truly tromatic and toxi-riffic music video experience!"
MUNICIPAL WASTE's lyrical miracle himself, Tony Foresta, is equally excited about the upcoming shoot: "Troma's awesome! They are a huge influence on our music, we are working out concepts for an amazing video. Hopefully it will have boobies in it and blood and shit."
Lloyd Kaufman himself sums it up best: "It seems fitting that MUNICIPAL WASTE would ask the Troma team to make a video for 'Headbanger Face Rip' as we've been ripping faces off on film for over 30 years!"
"The Art Of Partying" is out now on CD (with free patch) and 10 different colored vinyl LPs on Earache Records in Europe (it is due in the U.S. on July 31).
Anthrax Not To Appear At Loud Fest
Contrary to a posting at the LoudFest.com web site, ANTHRAX will **NOT** perform at the Loud Fest 07 on August 18 at Haverhill Stadium in Haverhill, Massachusetts. A representative for former ANTHRAX singer Joey Belladonna has told BLABBERMOUTH.NET that Belladonna and his solo band will appear at the event, which will feature additional performances by MELIAH RAGE, FALLEN SHALL RISE, BLEED FOR SORROW, JADED, CANDY STRIPER DEATH ORGY, KULTUR, SHAVAHAWK and SOURCE OF CONTEMPT. The all-ages festival will feature 13 acts on two stages.
ANTHRAX split with Joey Belladonna in January, less than two years after reuniting with him and other members of the band's "classic" lineup of the '80s and early '90s. Vocalist John Bush had been a member of the band before that, from 1993 to 2005.
Twisted Sister Guitarist To Record New Solo Album
MetalSucks recently conducted an interview with TWISTED SISTER guitarist Eddie Ojeda. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
MetalSucks: Are you thinking about doing another solo album anytime soon?
Ojeda: That's what I'm trying to do. 'Cause you know, I go out… once September comes, I'll be out playing constantly, I probably won't be back 'til December, because I'll be out doing this show VAMPIRES ROCK.
MetalSucks: What's that?
Ojeda: It's basically, um… it's kinda like a "Rocky Horror"-type show. They do a whole stage production with pyro and a band and a cast, and… it's very cool.
MetalSucks: Did you write the music for that?
Ojeda: No, I didn't. It's actually, it's not original music, it's like really well known rock n' roll. I mean, when I'm doing it we'll do "Burn in Hell", 'cause it kinda fits… and we'll do "We're Not Gonna Take It", 'cause, y'know, I'm being like a guest artist. 'Cause the lead guy is this singer and he usually does the whole lead thing. He also does a MEAT LOAF tribute, which is funny. He does this whole MEAT LOAF tribute and he tours England. 'Cause MEAT LOAF is SO big in England, y'know… I guess they just love it, they can't get enough of it, so… he started doing a MEAT LOAF tribute and it turned into this really big thing, and then, like, he does this show, VAMPIRES ROCK, so, y'know, half a year he does the MEAT LOAF thing, he goes out in the like the spring and the summer, and then in the fall and winter, he does the VAMPIRES ROCK thing. It basically started out as a Halloween thing that he used to do like ten, fifteen shows around Halloween, and now it's gotten even bigger, it's gonna be… well, so far, I'm doing 39 shows with them.
MetalSucks: Have you been working on a new solo album?
Ojeda: Yeah, I've been working on… right now I'm trying to pick songs. I've got a lot of stuff on tape. I'm trying to pick songs to get working on… I'm getting sidetracked alot, going to events and doing shows… I'm trying to do some voice-overs… my day… between all the events I go to and some of the traveling I'm doing just for business reasons, it's hard to get cracking, y'know what I mean (laughs)? [I] kinda feel like just going somewhere where I can… 'cause I always thought it works the best, when you just go someplace and you're not… when you work at home or, y'know, near your home, there's a lot of distractions, y'know? Sometimes it's better to go somewhere, and you're just there to record. Or just, y'know, put stuff down and start your album. And that's kinda the best way to get it done, 'cause otherwise there's always a million distractions, y'know? Before you know it, another month goes by.
MetalSucks: So, when you do get to do another solo album, do you think it will have a bunch of guest vocalists? I know last time you had [Ronnie James] Dio and Dee [Snider] obviously did some stuff, and Joe Lynn Turner…
Ojeda: Yeah. I'm definaltey gonna try and have a bunch of people on there… at least two or three, I'd like to have at least three guys, y'know… 'cause I got some songs that are really cool for certain people. But I'm not, y'know… it depends on who I can get, and scheduling. I mean, I know Ronnie [James Dio]'s up for it… for doing another one if I ask him to, y'know, uh… it might be cool, if I can find something. Y'know, that song "Tonight" [from "Axes 2 Axes"], it was kinda like, really perfect for him, y'know? And that's one of the reasons I asked him to sing it. It was almost like, I said "Wow, this really sounds like a DIO song," y'know? Even though I wrote it, it sounded like… it had a very DIO feeling to it. That's kinda why I asked him to do it. And I think it makes it a little more exciting for people, y'know… 'cause it's funny, when I asked these guys to sing, I didn't realize how many people these guys had worked with. The list, when I read the list, it reads like… 'cause I have the album on CD Baby now, so it says "Featuring guys who have played with WHITESNAKE, OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK SABBATH." (laughs) And I'd realized Rudy Sarzo played with OZZY OSBOURNE, played with WHITESNAKE, y'know, played on "Blizzard of Ozz", y'know, RAINBOW. So the list of people, when the record company puts together the list of all the artists, y'know, "featuring artists who've played with all these bands," it's a real who's who band list, y'know? And it's a CD that I only have four guest artists on, but it's like… like Ronnie. Ronnie's been in SABBATH, he's been in RAINBOW, and he's done his own thing, y'know… and Dee, Dee has done his own thing with his, uh, basically his own project… But until I get some other songs, y'know, semi-recorded… 'cause right now it's just me playing guitar on a boom box, y'know, with the songs… so until I get some basic drums down, y'know, some kind of basic tracks that sound like something, as far as laying the vocals over it, I really can't tell, y'know, who I'm gonna ask to do what. But I definately wanna [use more guest singers].

I am looking forward to writing, recording and touring with them during the all too often well known 'hiatus' of the band DIO.
"It's quickly become much more than a one-off situation with HYDROGYN. During the negotiation process involved in our mutual desire to work together, we forged a strong bond that I believe will continue well into the future in all aspects of an endeavor such as this one has become.
"Upon Ronnie's return I will be anxiously awaiting the writing, recording and touring that will follow and highly anticipating an awesome [DIO] CD release alongside my family Ronnie, Rudy, Simon and Scott. Until then I will be operating at my fullest potential with HYDROGYN with whom I've also been honored to form a long-term friendship with and build an alliance with DA Records and my program Destiny Bridge.
