Jack Owen To Play With Estuary On Tour This Fall
Guitarist, Jack Owen (Deicide, Ex-Cannibal Corpse) will be joining forces with Ohio Death Thrashers ESTUARY for the upcoming “Balkans Assassination Tour” taking place this October alongside Krisiun, INCANTATION and Inactive Messiah.
"It's an honor to be performing with my long time friends in ESTUARY. It just makes perfect sense to me. Deicide is on hiatus, ESTUARY are a tight technical outfit, Massive Music is one of the best booking agents in Europe right now, and the cities and countries we'll visit make it appealing as well. And I'll be hanging with metal brothers Krisiun and INCANTATION! It will be like a death metal vacation! And my love of death metal just can't be denied! See everyone in the Balkans!" -Jack Owen
Both parties are excited about the collaboration and eager to thrash with the Balkan Metal horde. ESTUARY vocalist Zdenka Prado commented, “Needless to say, we are extremely excited and thankful for this amazing opportunity. It will be a pleasure to slay the stage with one of the world’s best death metal musicians, and one of the coolest people I know. This tour will rage!”
ESTUARY will be playing as many shows as possible in the states this summer supporting their new release “The Craft of Contradiction", including their recent addition to The Central Illinois Metal Fest '07 taking place July 19th – 21st.

Slipknot Drummer Promises "Heavy As Fuck" Album
SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison has revealed to Britain's Kerrang! magazine (web site) that the follow-up to the band's 2004 effort "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)" will be the heaviest of its 12-year career.
"It's going to be heavy as fuck!" promised Jordison. "It's going to be heavier than 'Vol. 3...' but just as weird and as experimental. We have a whole bunch of song titles, but nothing I wanna say right now."
The sticksman — currently filling in for KORN drummer David Silveria, who has been on hiatus from the Bakersfield nu-metallers since the beginning of the year — will be touring with the band until October.
"I'm having a blast out on the road," Jordison told Kerrang!. "I'll be on the whole Family Values run in the U.S. with KORN over the summer and we've got some Brazilian dates in August and September. The KORN guys are really laid back and the shows have been killer, but in October we'll be starting a new SLIPKNOT chapter."
Jordison will regroup with his SLIPKNOT bandmates to begin writing material for their fifth studio album with a view to recording in January.
"I've talked to the other guys a bunch of times over the last few months about the new album," he explained to Kerrang!. "I've told them to demo whatever they can so we've got as much material to chose from as possible. So be warned 2008 is going to be all about SLIPKNOT!"
Hetfield: "King Is Afraid Of Getting Old"
Greece's metal TV show "TV War", which airs on MAD TV, recently conducted an interview with METALLICA frontman James Hetfield. Watch the interview in two parts: Part#1, Part#2. A transcript of the chat follows:
On why the setlist for the "Sick of the Studio '07" tour consisted mostly of pre-1991 material and not any newer songs:
Hetfield: "Well, it's tough when you're doing festivals and also you have a lot of material. You wanna do something new, you wanna do something different, you wanna do the ones that people identify with. And a lot of times… you know, we haven't done some of these festivals in years. But we did the festival circuit last year also. So we're hitting some of the festivals we've done… Every night is different. Sometimes that's fun, sometimes it's… for me, introducing the wrong song or something, or starting a wrong one…. But as far as the stuff on 'St. Anger' goes, I guess we have so much time, and they don't make the list — that's all. But we also don't wanna be one of those bands that are just playing the favorites. You wanna put some in there, so… We have been playing a song like 'Ride the Lightning', '…And Justice for All', 'Whiplash', 'The Four Horsemen'… you know, some songs that we haven't played in festivals in a long time."
On playing the "Live Earth" concert and whether musicians should get involved in politics:
Hetfield: "Fuck politics! I mean, I can't stand it. It drives me crazy. And there's politics within music; the business side a lot of times really, really bothers me. I like playing music. We were asked to play, and I said, 'OK. I wanna play. There's a lot of people that are gonna be watching that show.' . . . I don't like talking politics. METALLICA is about music from us, music for the ears of our fans. Really, that's what it's about. I don't like playing for any cause. I had to get a little more talked into playing this show. I don't like any strings attached to things. I wanna play because I like to play."
On how things are different in the recording studio now compared to how it was for 2003's "St. Anger":
Hetfield: "A lot of growing up happened on 'St. Anger'. We went from hating each other, not talking, to, 'Ah, I love you,' hugging — you know, from one extreme to the other — and both of them were just a little bit crazy, so we're somewhere in the middle now where most people live, maybe. [Laughs] I don't know… We're feeling better about it. And all the therapy and the work we did for 'St. Anger' is really for this record, because now we don't have Phil Towle, the therapist, with us; we don't have Bob Rock babysitting us a lot — that's not his only job, of course — but a different producer. And we're trying to take more responsibility for ourselves and grow up through the process."
On the "Some Kind of Monster" movie and SLAYER guitarist Kerry King's explanation that he didn't want to watch the film because he didn't want to "see these fragile fucking old men that can't have a cocktail anymore":
Hetfield: "That's probably what they saw, and that makes a lot of sense — that's what they're afraid of… they don't want to get old and… Everyone gets old, everyone goes through things. It happened that we went through that on film. And we're not afraid to show ourselves to anyone at any time. That is pure freedom right there. Putting that movie out was more for us, I would say. I'm not interested in showing everyone my dirty laundry, but that was part of human nature. It wasn't to shock anyone, it wasn't to make money, it wasn't to… there was no ulterior motive to that except showing what we went through at that time."
On various descriptions that have been used to describe METALLICA's upcoming album, including that it sounds like a cross between "Master of Puppets" and the "black" album and that it contains Middle Eastern influences:
Hetfield: "I think there always is, as far as scales go — minor scales — there's been that type of stuff since 'Fight Fire with Fire'. Robert [Trujillo, bass] just yesterday said, 'Hey, that solo section in 'Fight Fire with Fire', it sounds Greek to me.' It sounds like Greek music, maybe."
On why "Master of Puppets" is regarded as such a classic album and other bands' aspirations to make their own "Master of Puppets":
Hetfield: "I think it's more of a landmark. I think when a band says, 'We want to record our 'Master of Puppets',' that's more of a landmark… I think it was a bit of a peak in the band with Cliff Burton, just like the 'black' album was, I think, a peak with Jason [Newsted], and maybe we'll peak with Robert somewhere. But 'Master of Puppets'? Who knows? Who knows why? Just a bunch of good songs at the right time. That happened, you know?! There was no extra thought put in it — we were just doing what we were supposed to do, and that's play our best music. We were just thinking about that the other day. We were driving in England and looking in all the bushes between the estates, you know, and saying, 'Oh, that's a hedgerow.' And then we started singing, 'There's a bustle in your hedgerow' — the lyric from 'Stairway to Heaven' [by LED ZEPPELIN] — and [we were like] 'What is that?' The most popular song in the history of rock has some gibberish lyrics. It's just magic somehow."
On what makes producer Rick Rubin (SLIPKNOT, AUDIOSLAVE, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, SYSTEM OF A DOWN) so special and why METALLICA picked him to work on the new album:
Hetfield: "It's not luck that these albums that he does [that] they sound good and they hit the mark. Bob Rock… god bless Bob Rock. We learned so much from him. But at a point we were too enmeshed together, and I think we needed to just separate for awhile. And working with someone new — someone who we might be able to respect... It's tough when you're at the top of your game and you've done it all. You need someone to show you things, and hopefully he's gonna show us some things we don't know."
On some of the off-the-wall and outlandish things that people have done as a result of their love for METALLICA — such as the Swedish couple that named its daughter "Metallica", the book "Metallica and Philosophy" written by a college professor, and the death of a Canadian fan following an argument over METALLICA:
Hetfield: "We are four very grateful and lucky kids that play music. . . I don't know what to say. We're just doing what gift we have, and their gift may be writing a book. Naming your kid METALLICA… I don't know about that. Maybe my dog or something, but your child? Hey, if they love it so much, why not? People getting married to METALLICA songs… Hopefully it's not just a trendy thing, [and] it really moves you. And everyone in life just wants to be moved and feel like they're a part of something, or feel alive, and METALLICA music does that for me, and I'm grateful that it does it for a lot of other people."

Dave Mustaine Checks In
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted this message on the band's official forum:
"Droogies!
Well another week has come and gone and we had a busy one over here in sunny Fallbrook. I met with the record company, new merch company, talked with my agents and band, my webmasters here and at MySpace, our DVD director, one of the artists for the band, the publishing company, the business manager, the attorney, the personal manager, the Storekeeper, Ken (eng. on U.A.), DigiDesign, AND did interviews, while being a Daddy and Husband. [Author reserves the right to an psuedo-Alzheimer moment if I have forgotten someone]
The best part though, besides my family and my immediate inner circle, is coming here and seeing you everyday whilst I am at home. Those that I know (sorta) are even more fun to see. In the meantime with getting the 'life in order' bit, I have found tons of old demo tapes again, so my creative juices are flowing! Especially with everything going on!! Touring, new releases, yikes!!! Time to start sorting out a wompazillion files. UGH!
Things are good with the label and we talked about what to do next, as well as the video for whatever single we choose and what director. We also have the making of 'United Abominations' to discuss. I also talked to EMI about the box set (which I was listening to while writing this morning), and to the artist for the project to wrap this release up for the future. I love some of the really rare stuff on 'United Abominations', and there are a few songs on the record I would skip, but they are so important for telling the whole story of MEGADETH, that I left them in there.
Next was talking to the folks at Image about the remaining songs from 'That One Night', as well as finishing up the Gigantour 2006 film featuring Megs and LAMB OF GOD, and that meant getting my schedule sorted stat! I am almost finished fixing my studio to do video editing and I hope to start with Michael Sarna as soon as possible on the work in front of us. We have so much stuff to do; CD from Image, the extra songs, the 06 DVD, and the making of the UA record video, and that's not including if we choose him to do a video again, instead of just make films.
We started working out our schedules for the upcoming NAMM show, and I think it is very possible that all four of us will be there at the same time. It would be rad to do a little private party for you Droogies through Dean, but it would probably be a logistical nightmare. The Official MEGADETH eBay store will have loads o' new stuff coming in, and I think the band guys are going to send some stuff the Storekeepers way again soon, too.
Lastly, for now, I can say we have about 40-50 more shows this year, and then we break for the holidays. We are going to have a heavy schedule for next year, and promise to try our best to see you all.
So now, I am going back to sorting my studio and deciding which new songs to add into our headlining set in the States. Now that we have gotten some good road behind us, I want to keep playing stuff that exhilarates me. It is hard to decide which songs to play or not. I may need your help again. Thankfully James (Lomenzo - bass) knows a lot of the back catalogue and we can mix it up each night. I sometimes worry about the people that won't get to hear the songs they are familiar with, instead of us taking a trip down memory lane, deep into our catalogue.
Well, it's time to prepare my body to darken the doorway of a church with my shadow.
Have a great day today!"

Seether Frontman Won't Respond To Amy Lee's Attack
MTV.com reports: Most of us would love to have a hit song written about us. Seether's Shaun Morgan isn't one of those people. But that didn't stop his ex-girlfriend, Evanescence's Amy Lee, from penning "Call Me When You're Sober," a tune she later admitted was specifically written about her relationship with Morgan. And the timing couldn't have been worse for Lee's damning revelation, coming just weeks after Morgan checked himself into rehab for treatment of "a combination of substances." His rehab stint, coincidentally, began on the very same day the Evanescence track was delivered to the nation's rock radio stations.
As you might expect, Morgan wasn't thrilled with Lee's public airing of the pair's dirty laundry. For the last year, the song has "followed me around and haunted me," he said, and it chipped away at his reputation.
"People would say to me, 'Yeah, man, I know what you're going through,' and I was like, 'No, I don't think you do,' " Morgan explained. " 'Your ex-girlfriend didn't write a song about you, that millions of people have heard, saying you're a bad guy. As soon as that happens, buddy, come up and tell me you know what I'm going through.' "
Now, clean and sober, Morgan and his band are returning with their third studio outing, Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces, which is set for an October 23 release. But don't expect the LP to contain a response track.
"There isn't necessarily a response as there's a lament," the singer for the South African rockers said. "I was bummed out. I was really upset that she would say and do those things. In any relationship, I don't think it's right to say and do those things when people break up, and she obviously felt the need to go out there and make me sound like a complete a--hole. What can I do? I just refuse to lower myself to that level. But it was a painful thing and it got me down — people coming up to me on the street and referring to that song. But I didn't feel the need to write back and be mean."
Instead, the Howard Benson-produced Finding Beauty — which the band hopes to begin mixing next week — boasts "Breakdown," a song some might interpret as Morgan's answer to "Sober." But that's not the case.
"It isn't an aggressive song, and it isn't even an angry song — I would prefer to refer to it as a lament rather than an angry backlash," he said. "You couldn't tell that the song was about one person. It's probably more universal. I prefer to be a little more vague and respectful. There are some things I could have said and done too — there are always two sides to every story. And if anything, the song says, 'Fine. Go ahead and say those things.' But what's the point of telling my side? That's what the bloodthirsty want, and I don't care what the bloodthirsty want."
Sonically, Morgan said the record is more balanced than anything Seether have done before and far more cohesive — thanks, in part, to the fact that the band had much more time to write and came up with more than 50 tracks to choose from. When the album hits stores, expect it to feature at least 10 songs, including "No, Jesus Christ," "Rise Above This" and "FMLYHM," an acronym for "F--- Me Like You Hate Me."
"That element of our band, as people know it, is still there, but there have been several developments," Morgan said. "It's been more experimental with us. We tried to explore the actual process of songwriting and the process of writing songs that have good melodies that are sing-able, that lean more towards the pop side. And when I got pissed off, I got really pissed off, and there are certain moments on the album that I almost didn't recognize as being us because it was kind of brutal. But when I went into writing the songs, the label was sort of looking for 'Remedy' [from 2005's Karma and Effect] and obviously a song like 'Broken' [from 2004's Disclaimer II], and I said, 'Those songs have been written, because it was the right time and the right place to write them. For you to expect me to write something like that, it's just not possible.' "

Incubus Guitarist Working On A Symphony
Billboard.com reports that Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger is working on a symphony.
The project began in March, after Einziger had surgery to relieve debilitating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. "I couldn't play guitar for a few months," Einziger tells Billboard.com, "so I just started studying music again. I started working on (the symphony), and I learned very quickly that there were a lo of gaps in my musical knowledge."
Einziger began studying five days a week with a teacher and also spent time with a "musical mentor." The symphony project remained his focus, and he's working on it during Incubus' current headlining tour of North America to promote its 2006 release "Light Grenades."
"I'm just kind of writing it in small pieces, 'cause it's very intimidating to think of it as a whole body of work," explains Einziger, who hasn't titled the piece yet. "It'll probably be three movements and 40 minutes of music, and that's a lot of music to write.
"And I completely realize that it can't just be interesting only because it's the guitar player of a rock band writing it. It has to stand up to the work of other composers as well. It's a pretty hefty task for me to endure, but I'm actually excited about it."
Einziger says Incubus' road schedule should give him plenty of time to continue working on the symphony. After wrapping up on these shores, the group will hit Europe and South America in the fall, with Australia, Japan and other parts of Asia slated for 2008.
The next Incubus album is also on the quintet's radar -- especially since any leftover "Light Grenades" material has been used up for B-sides and bonus tracks.
"We'll be starting completely from scratch," Einziger says, "but that's how we like to do it. We like to look at our albums as photo albums from a very specific time and place. We want them to be representative of where we were at a specific time, so including older songs would seem strange. Everything we do next time will be fresh and brand new."
Denial Fiend Give Recording Update For "They Rise"
DENIAL FIEND, the new project that unites vocalist Kam Lee (Massacre, Death) with bassist Terry Butler (Massacre, Death, Six Feet Under), drummer Curtis Beeson (Nasty Savage), and Sam Williams (Down By Law, Pseudo Heroes) expressed their excitement for the current recording including Mike Browning's (Morbid Angel, Nocternus, After Death) guest vocal spot on the track "Return To The Tombs Of The Cursed Blind Dead" for their latest release "They Rise".
"Mike did a fucking great job, and his signature evil demonic voice just makes the song that much more dark and sinister!" A huge macabre thanks to Mike for his contribution to the album! DENIAL FIEND have been at MANA studios mixing the new album and everything is going mayhem! Brian Elliot is a fucking evil genius behind the board, and is really making our sound complete! Drums are mixed as well as Bass tracks, and we'll be starting with guitars next... then onto the vocals. Everything is fucking blazing and solid and truely captures that raw feel and style that is DENIAL FIEND!"
Additionally DENIAL FIEND are excited to finally get on the road. Recently Kam Lee had some passport problems which hindered their traveling, but now everything has been cleared up and DENIAL FIEND are 100% doing an upcoming tour.
This exceptionally rare, "Massacre Re-animated Tour", will re-unite MASSACRE and lay ground for DENIAL FIENDS's first tour ever. The proposed dates will be from Oct. 25th - Nov.19th of this year through Europe.

Demon Hunter Issue Studio Update
Seattle-based Christian metallers, DEMON HUNTER, are currently in the process of recording their fourth as-yet-untitled album, due out before the end of the year on Solid State Records. The album is being produced by Aaron Sprinkle (EMERY, THE ALMOST) and mixing will be handled by Machine (LAMB OF GOD, WHITE ZOMBIE).
The following is an update from vocalist Ryan Clark regarding the recording sessions: "We are getting really close to wrapping up the album. I know I told you we were more excited about this new material than ever before we started. Let me just say that, although every band always says their most recent record is their best, this new record is without a doubt Demon Hunter at our very finest and most creative. We've really pushed the boundaries of the music we're used to playing in Demon Hunter, and I believe, in metal music in general.??It's a very diverse record. I tend to view Demon Hunter as a fairly diverse band to begin with, but there is some material on this record that covers some very new ground. I sing in ways I've never sung before. The guitar tones are different than any previous record. There are songs that are far faster and more brutal than we've ever done. Overall, I feel this record will undoubtedly make you all pleasantly surprised."
