Count Nosferatu Kommando Ready Second Album
After their bombastic and acclaimed 2002 debut album "Ultraviolence über alles", Count Nosferatu Kommando are finally back with their long awaited second coming, to be released next November on Season of Mist.
Pretty soon after he left French black metal act ANOREXIA NERVOSA, frontman Hreidmarr was quick to rerun the CNK war machine, together with old comrade Heinrich Von B. joined by harsh EBM star Sylvicious (TAMTRUM) on drums, and by (in)famous Parisian designer Valnoir (SECT) on bass, the CNK dream team is now complete and ready to grind, raze, crush, and piss you off with an incredibly heavy opus of Wagner-like and anti-politically correct electro-metal. Entitled "L'Hymne à la Joie", the band's sophomore album is produced by Stefan Bayle (ANOREXIA NERVOSA).

Megadeth Bassist Discusses Feelings On Roadrunner
During an interview with DelRock.it conducted on June 30, 2007 prior to MEGADETH's performance at the Gods of Metal festival in Milan, Italy, the band's bassist James Lomenzo was asked about the label switch to Roadrunner following a split with Sanctuary Records. "It's always difficult when you make a move like that," Lomenzo replied. "But Roadrunner's been extremely supportive throughout the whole process. There's been some mistakes made, but that happens in every label-band situation — it's just misinterpretations about what one person would wanna do and another one… Ultimately, though, Roadrunner's been really very behind MEGADETH in a really positive way — right down to the inception of making the music to the back end of it, looking at exactly what markets we really belong in. We're very happy with the relationship so far — it's been good."

Duff McKagen Talks Libertad And Axl Rose
Nick Snelling of Australia's Beat magazine recently conducted an interview with VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
On his statement after the release of "Contraband" that VELVET REVOLVER was the kind of act that would be releasing an album every year:
"Did I actually say that… oh. Well, I probably didn't mean every year, you know? I also didn't foresee things taking so long – we ended up touring a lot longer that any of us really expected, by the time we'd finished we'd been touring 18 months.
"The downside is that you're standing in line every fucking day, sitting in aeroplanes, checking into hotels and literally living out of each other's pockets everyday. There was never really a break, and any breaks that we did have just got filled in, simply because the record was so successful. And I don't care what five people you do that to, you're gonna get sick of each other."
"I think we planned at taking about three weeks, because we're all such A-type personalities who are all used to constantly working – but after a week, it became clear how exhausted we actually were and none of us were really ready to get back into a room."
On whether he's happy with the new album "Libertad":
"You know, I really, really am. Musically, we kind of drew a line in the sand and said, 'We have to move past this.' We really pushed ourselves and the 'Contraband' tour allowed to know what boundaries we didn't have. We knew what we were capable of. I mean, I loved 'Contraband'. It was a big 'fuck you,' it was aggressive and it was really the perfect first album for us, but knew with a bit of downtime we could really go and explore some new musical stuff and make a really organic rock 'n' roll record without tons of guitar overdubs."
On the reasoning behind covering an old ELO song by Jeff Lynne, "Can't Get It Out Of My Head":
"Ahh, that was really Brendan O'Brien (producer). He came up with the idea, and he was so into it. Even though the band really wasn't, we knew Scott could probably sing the crap out of it. I mean, Slash really was not into it. But somehow managed to get us to try it. And that really was Brendan's thing on this album, he'd come in, pick up a guitar and say, 'Hey guys, have you thought about doing this? You might think it sucks, but just humour me, OK?' He tried everything in order to make it sound great to us. By the time Slash put a solo on it, it came out great and I think it's OK that we have a cover on the record. It's kinda tongue-in-cheek, and I'm happy made the record….although, I don't think we'll ever do it live. Jeff Lynne has heard it and he loves it, so that's cool in of itself."
On whether he ever wishes that he had the same understanding of personal problems that individuals struggle with a little earlier so that maybe other, more well-documented estrangements (i.e. GUNS N' ROSES singer Axl Rose), could have possibly been avoided:
"Umm, I know what you're getting at. I just think that that experience is where I earned my understanding, you know? I mean I was fucked up then, and so a lot of all that shit kind of fed each other. The machine was just so big. There was no way out, and there were just so many yes-men, and there's a myriad of reasons. Mostly it's because it was out of control. I know I self-medicated my way through the entire 'Use Your Illusion' tours. It wasn't til it was done did I know I had a health problem, and I got sober. That's where I got a lot of experience in dealing with people and strange situations — I got a crash course from '86 through '93, an expert education. There was a time where if it were up to me, I would have salvaged things, and even Slash tried many times. We all wanted to save it, it's not like we all walked up one day and said 'fuck you!'
"You see, he (Axl) was a singer in this meteoric rock band that sort of captured the imagination and hit some sort of nerve with a whole reputation, and while every member of than band was important to making that happen, he was the singer. The focal point. I know that more yes-men came his way, and I think that soon your sense of reality gets a little eschewed, and that the real friends you have either change on you or those other people close them out. I can't speak for Axl now, and I haven't hung out with him for a real long time now, but a lot of this happened to me… but I wasn't the singer. So I was able to escape it. So yeah, it's sad, man."
Axl Rose Explains Non Live Earth Participation
GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose has issued the following statement:
"GUNS N' ROSES or myself will not be performing at Rio Live Earth or Live Earth for a couple of reasons. The first is that we were not asked until the last couple weeks while we were on tour in Australia and have upcoming sold-out dates already rescheduled in Japan. Our gear is already en route to Japan for these shows. We have attempted to find a solution to be able to perform in Rio, but unfortunately none has been suggested.
"I was asked to perform individually with Lenny Kravitz by the promoters and Mr. Gore. As we were working this out, Lenny unfortunately became injured and temporarily canceled his involvement from the event. According to the promoters, by the time they had reconfirmed Lenny's performance, there wasn't enough time to arrange flights for myself to Brazil and then to Japan for our upcoming shows. Unfortunately, I was not informed that Lenny's performance was reconfirmed until our own explorations and in following the media surrounding the event today, which is Saturday morning here in Australia and Friday in Brazil.
"GUNS N' ROSES or I were not asked to play anywhere else such as Japan or Australia (as we are already in the regions on tour) and in which we have formally offered to perform but the offer of our involvement was declined.
"We wish all involved, the performers, the organizers, the fans and audiences around the world all the best and a very successful event."
Fire In Studio Halts Biomechanical Recording
U.K. epic progressive metallers BIOMECHANICAL are currently putting the finishing touches on their new album, "Cannibalised", with legendary producer Chris Tsangarides (JUDAS PRIEST, BLACK SABBATH, THIN LIZZY) at Ecology Rooms in Kent, England. The group's bassist, Jon Collins, has issued the following update:
"John K and Chris Tsangarides were recording Chris Webb's solos when a strong smell of electrical fire started to fill the room. Right after that, smoke started coming out of the desk's power supply and it eventually caught fire! Chris ran out of the main room and grabbed the fire extinguisher. Thankfully it was put out straight away. Just a few more minutes and the whole thing would go up in flames! Just a small glitch…"
Both the band and the studio tapes are safe and sound. BIOMECHANICAL will re-enter the studio and continue recording "Cannibalised" in a few weeks.
"Cannibalised" is slated for a September 21 release in the U.K. The U.S. will receive the album later this fall.
BIOMECHANICAL will embark on a limited run of U.K. dates starting tomorrow, July 7 at London's Islington Academy.
Tesla Bassist Issues Update
TESLA bassist Brian Wheat has issued the following update:
"Just got back from Europe. It was the first time we've been back since 1991. The reception was off the hook.
"Not knowing what to expect, we got to London and the crowd was fucking amazing. They were one of the loudest crowds ever in the history of TESLA playing shows for 20 years. The fans there we talked to backstage and on the street were so happy to see us back and it made us feel very overwhelmed with joy.
"Next day we were off to Holland to play Plato and again it was off the hook. We played to a jam-packed 700-seat; hot and sweaty rock and roll in your face and again very loud crowd. And the reception again was overwhelming. Got to meet our new Dutch brother Cornelius.
"Next day it was off to the Arrow fest classic rock festival with AEROSMITH, SCORPIONS, THIN LIZZY, THE DOORS and STEVE VAI, plus many more acts. We were the first act on the bill so we didn't know what to expect but guess what? The place was packed. We played a blazing one-hour set and the crowd response was amazing.
"Then we finally got to meet the one and only crazy man Rudolf Heinz and his partner Gabriel from the Bold Brothers, these guys are the coolest. TESLA wants to give them a big thank you for taking a chance and bringing TESLA back to Holland.
"Overall this was a great trip and there is a European tour being planned for the fall with our English super-agent Steve Strange. Now we are back in the States ready to kick ass and play some more killer shows."
Video footage of TESLA performing a cover of UFO's "Rock Bottom" at the Best Buy store in Phoenix, Arizona on June 5, 2007 has been posted at YouTube.
Capital Chaos TV has posted video footage of TESLA performing the TRAFFIC classic "Dear Mr. Fantasy" during their free CD-release show on May 31, 2007 at the Cesar Chavez Park in downtown Sacramento, California. Watch the clip at YouTube. More...

Black Sabbath To Reunite In 2008?
Gary Graff of Billboard.com reports that about 3,000 tickets for each of Ozzfest 2007's 24 shows — which begin Thursday in Auburn, Wash. — have been held back in order to provide upgraded seating for fans. Those will include reserved pavilion locations and even some seats that are actually on the stage.
"On the day of the show you can get to different booths, enter a lottery and get upgraded," Ozzfest organizer Sharon Osbourne explains to Billboard.com. "We'll be upgrading throughout the day, 3,000 people. That's a lot of people to upgrade."
Osbourne adds that the upgrades will be handled in a manner that puts some premium on arriving early for the show, although this year's Ozzfest will begin at noon, rather than 10 a.m. or earlier in previous years. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m.
Sharon Osbourne also revealed that talks are ongoing about a BLACK SABBATH reunion in 2008.
"We're definitely talking to the guys, just talking," she says. "I think when they finish their (HEAVEN AND HELL with Ronnie James Dio) tour and we finish (Ozzfest), we can sit down and spend more time on it."

Voivod DVD On The Way
VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin has told MTV.com that he recently finished remastering the band's 1986 album, "Rrröööaaarrr!", and editing a bonus DVD that will accompany the re-release of the LP in the fall. The package will be filled with live and demo recordings that were sold in the '80s via the band's Iron Gang fan club; fan-recorded footage, including the group's first U.S. show, an opening gig for VENOM; rare archival photos; and cassette recordings dating back to 1980. "I found an early tape of Piggy doing an avant-garde collage of sounds that's very good, so that will be a bonus on 'Rrröööaaarrr!' as well," he said.
The "Rrröööaaarrr!" reissue will be followed early next year by reissues of 1987's "Killing Technology" and 1988's "Dimension Hatröss", which will be similarly equipped with bonus DVDs. After the first batch of reissues come out, Langevin plans to work on reissues of 1991's "Angel Rat" and 1993's "The Outer Limits". He's negotiating to put out 1989's "Nothingface" as well but is running into some red tape.
"We had a deal back then where it was distributed by MCA in America and Noise in Europe," Langevin said. "And right now that's causing some logistical issues that we need to settle before I can start thinking about that."
Langevin also plans to begin work on a box set of VOIVOD's '90s catalog, much of which featured Eric Forrest on vocals. As if that's not enough VOIVOD to shake a psychedelic stick at, next year Langevin will assemble two proper VOIVOD DVDs, "D-V-O-D-2" and "D-V-O-D-3", to follow up 2005's "D-V-O-D-1". These discs will feature the professionally filmed material lacking from the album-reissue bonus DVDs.

Ozzy: "I Have To Do Alot Of Shouting"
Ernest A. Jasmin of The News Tribune recently conducted an interview with Ozzy Osbourne. A few excerpts follow:
The News Tribune: The first [Ozzfest 2007] gig is at the White River Amphitheatre. And a couple of years ago you had a rough gig there. (Ozzy stormed offstage in 2005 after his voice went out.)
Ozzy: I get a lot of voice problems. … You have to do a lot of shouting, you know. That's why I think we're booked on the early part of this tour. … I've just done the biggest European tour I've ever done. And I had a little bit of voice trouble. But it seems to be getting better now, you know.
The News Tribune: Given that in recent years you've had vocal problems, and the first two songs on the new album are called "Not Going Away" and "I Don't Wanna Stop", have you considered retirement?
Ozzy: Every year I do. … I was listening to the demo tapes of "No More Tears" today, which was recorded, like, 15 years ago. And I would go, "@#$%@% hell." My voice has a lot higher range, you know. And I was talking to Bob Seger a couple of years ago when I was out with him, and I asked him, "Can you still get up there? Like when you sing ('Old Time Rock & Roll'.)" He said, "I have problems." We all have problems. When it's going great, I love it. When it's going bad, I hate it. … There's a lot of people doing a lot of trickery, with @#%@%@ machines and everything. Like a friend of mine went to see MADONNA, and apparently she does the whole @#$@%@ thing lip-sync.
The News Tribune: When will you know that it's time to pass the torch?
Ozzy: If I go from playing @#%@%@ big shows to playing clubs — I ain't gonna be doing that. … If the audience dwindles, and I don't enjoy it any more, I'll quit, you know. I don't want to play to an empty room or an empty theater or an empty amphitheater. I mean, they've been asking the STONES for the last @#%@%@ 20 years, … and they're still going.
The News Tribune: I read this is the first album you've done completely sober.
Ozzy: Yeah, yeah. I've recorded albums sober before. But I haven't co-written albums or written anything sober before. And why I did it like that was I found a friend of mine. He's got a lot more years time than I have. I says to him, "The alcohol and the drugs fuel my creativity." He says, "That's what your addiction tells you. But what you've gotta do is don't be afraid to ask for help."
When I'm doing an album, I'm usually like some deranged @#%@%@ pregnant man. I didn't get myself too involved. When I have a vision in my head – I don't play music. I can't read music. I can't hardly read English considering I'm so dyslexic. I had to detach myself from it, you know. And the success of the TV show was (considers) it just put me on this ride, you know.
The News Tribune: Were you apprehensive about how people would receive your album after the show?
Ozzy: Well, no. Luckily for me, I've done other projects of covers and things that have been great sellers for me. But that was just to let (fans) know that I'm still around, you know. But my own albums, they've always been successful, you know. So for whatever reason this album, "Black Rain", didn't do as well as (expected). I can't really complain because I've had such a great — next year it'll be 40 years I've been doing what I've been doing.

CANDLEMASS' new album, "King of the Grey Islands", has entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 83.
"King of the Grey Islands" is the first CANDLEMASS album to feature singer Robert Lowe (SOLITUDE AETURNUS), who replaced Messiah Marcolin earlier in the year.
As previously reported, fan-filmed video footage of CANDLEMASS performing the song "Black Dwarf" at the Metaltown festival on Saturday, June 30 in Gothenburg, Sweden has been posted at YouTube.
CANDLEMASS celebrated its 20th anniversary at a special concert held at Stockholm's Kolingsborg on March 31, 2007. Hetfield Briefly Detained By British Customs
According to British newspaper The Times, METALLICA frontman James Hetfield was temporarily detained by security officials at a British airport. Hetfield jetted into Luton airport ahead of Saturday's (July 7) Live Earth London gig — where his band is performing — but was stopped by officials before he could leave the terminal. The Times claims Hetfield's friends blame his "Taliban-like beard" for the interrogation.
METALLICA will join the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, FOO FIGHTERS and others at London's Live Earth concert on July 7 before headlining Wembley Stadium on July 8.
Death Angel Discuss Eye Tearing Incident
Kimberly Chun of the San Francisco Bay Guardian reports that San Francisco vocalist Mark Osegueda of DEATH ANGEL was in the studio June 24 with his other, punk rock project, the ALL TIME HIGHS, laying down scratch vocals at Fantasy Recording Studios in Berkeley when he got a hit by a bit more than a scratch.
"Holding a scream for a long time, you get a head rush because of the lack of oxygen. You almost feel really woozy, but usually my adrenalin is going so much onstage that I'm OK," Osegueda, 38, said.
"Instead I was standing in a little isolation booth in the studio, I had a head rush, and I passed out and fell forward, and a mic stand caught my eye."
The micless pole tore into Osegueda's eyeball. "I was really, really fortunate that it didn't hit the center of the eye — it hit the white area of the eye and took out a big chunk of it," he says. "So I'm dealing with pain and discomfort instead of vision problems, which is nice because, had it hit the center of the eye, we'd be having a different kind of conversation now!"
When he came to, Osegueda grabbed his eye out of panic, knowing he had done something "pretty severe and pretty wrong." Delirious and separated from his bandmates, who were continuing to play through the song elsewhere in the studio, Osegueda confesses that he was tempted to just take a nice little nap right where he fell, before he stopped himself, thinking he might have suffered a concussion.

Zakk Wylde Talks About Free Ozzfest
Australia's Undercover News recently caught up with OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist Zakk Wylde to ask him about this year's Ozzfest, which is being staged as a free show.
On the topic of this year's event being free, Zakk said, "You never question your mother [referring to Ozzy's wife and Ozzfest founder Sharon Osbourne — Ed.]. So I never question mom. So the bottom line is this: It's none of my business — I just show up and I play and I do what I gotta do and the beer is ice-cold. Game over, badda-boom, badda-bang. That's it."
Concert-promotions giant Live Nation gave away 428,000 tickets over a four-day period last month through its web site and various sponsor sites. Beginning June 8, fans entered exclusive codes to obtain tickets to one of the 24 Ozzfest dates. More than 228,000 passes were distributed June 12 alone, with the last one given away just after midnight, according to Live Daily.
This year, the 12th annual installment of Ozzfest will find OZZY OSBOURNE on the main stage alongside STATIC-X, LAMB OF GOD and LORDI. The second stage will feature headliner HATEBREED with BEHEMOTH, MONDO GENERATOR, NILE, ANKLA, CIRCUS DIABLO, THE SHOWDOWN, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, DAATH, CHTHONIC and IN THIS MOMENT.
Ozzfest 2007 will launch July 12 in Seattle, WA at the White River Amphitheatre.
