Meshuggah....Kind of thought of them as Progressive doomy deathmetal done properly.....
Deftones sounds like the result of cramming all the most noteworthy aspects of metal, punk, hardcore, goth, left field indie rock and straight ahead rock and put it in a blender with very open ended lyrics.....and a fantastic drummer.
Unlike nu-metal or some other straight forward genre the Deftones have begun making albums with songs that barely sound like the same artist from one track to the next. While I expected more from the last disk it was still in my cd player for a solid 9 months....Nowhere near as long as "Adrenaline", "Around The Fur" and "White Pony" but quite good.
I am looking forward to the odds and ends record as well as their newest studio LP due late this year or early next year.

Deftones are one of the last real innovative bands of the 90's. They havent put out a bad record, nor do i expect them to. The rarities dosc is great, although they could have added a second disc of extra audio tracks, they are missing so many good songs. vol. 2?

I'm with Crenshaw Punch on this...the story behind that song is kinda funny.
Songs that should have made the cut: "Teething" ultra heavy, furious vocals
"To have and to Hold" kinda "meh" but it's worth a few spins, nice opening scream and the song ends well...but the middle is kinda....voidy...
"The Boys Republic", rare cut from White pony, a song in the spirit of the "Around The Fur" album.
"Can't Even Breath" an "Adrenaline" era track that should have been included on that album.
"Back to School" many fans did not get this song as it was released after the initial pressings of Whitepony.
"Damone", the thunderous song hidden at the end of "Around the Fur".
The b-sides album is decent, but lacking these songs (I have them all already but I was once a very obsessed fan) and the album would have been much more worth the cost of admission had these tracks been added for the fans.
