Greenway: New Napalm Death "fast and crazy"
Napalm Death will tentatively issue their latest album, entitled Order Of The Leech, in October through Snapper Music in Europe and Spitfire Records in the US, frontman Mark "Barney" Greenway has told Blabbermouth.net. "The [deal] with Dreamcatcher [Records, who released the group's Enemy Of The Music Business CD in 2001] didn't really work out in the end," the singer offered.
As previously reported, the drum tracks for the CD were completed at Parkgate Studios in Hastings, England (where Enemy Of The Music Business was recorded) and are currently holed up at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire with producer Simon Efemey mixing the album, despite the fact that Greenway still has "a couple of tracks of vocals to do," according to the frontman.
As to what people can expect to hear on the new album, Barney stated that "there are some progressive riffs, but it's fast and crazy. In my opinion, I think it's quite hardcore-flavored — like the classic abrasive stuff from Discharge to Final Conflict, Crucifix, etc. This is the stuff that we're best at, I reckon." More...

The Defaced Set Title and Hit the Studio
Sweden's The Defaced, featuring Darkane guitarist Klas Ideberg and Soilwork drummer Henry Ranta, have set Karma In Black as the title of their forthcoming sophomore effort, which is currently being produced by Ideberg and Rickard Larsson at Queenstreet Recording studios. 11 songs will be recorded for the CD, including a bonus track for the Japanese version of the disc. According to the band, "we've had a production meeting to discuss the ideas of the sound of the album, and we definitely share the same ideas. The aim can most easily be explained as to creating a fat, pounding and raw sound!" In musical terms, "the [new] material seems very impressive indeed. More grooves and melodies have been added to the sound as a natural progression from Domination Commence. And this without compromising roughness and attitude."
A late 2002/early 2003 release through Italy's Scarlet Records is expected.
Murder Squad Shopping Second Album
Sweden's Murder Squad, featuring Dismember bassist Rickard Cabeza, Dismember vocalist Matti Kärki, Entombed guitarist Uffe Cederlund and Entombed drummer Peter Stjärnwind, are currently shopping an already-completed sophomore full-length effort, entitled Ravenous, Murderous, to interested record companies for a tentative late 2002 release. The album, which features a guest appearance by former Death/Autopsy drummer Chris Reifert, was completed at a Stockholm studio over a two-week period in March, and is set to include the following tracks, among others: More...

The Obsournes One of Ten Worst Shows?
A TV watchdog group denounced The Osbournes as one of the ten "worst" shows on cable television in a new report released yesterday, according to Billboard.
MTV programs like The Osbournes and The Real World comprise half of the Parents Television Council's (PTC) "Worst" list, which is rounded out by offerings on FX, TNN, and Comedy Central.
L. Brent Bozell III, founder and president of the PTC, feels that MTV's plethora of salacious programming targeted at teen viewers can no longer be ignored. "One of the things we're looking at is making a much bigger deal about MTV," he said. "Parents don't watch MTV, and I suspect they don't know what's on it."
Other MTV shows on the PTC's list are Undressed, Celebrity Deathmatch and The Andy Dick Show. The other spots are filled by FX's The Shield, which topped the list, TNT's Witchblade, TNN's WWE Raw Is War, and two series from Comedy Central: South Park and The Man Show. MTV declined comment on the PTC report until it could be reviewed.
Skinlab Tattoo the Earth
San Francisco Bay Area's Skinlab will perform Saturday, August 10th as part of the Tattoo The Earth weekend at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California. The event, sponsored by The Oakland Museum Of California will be hosted by acclaimed tattoo artist and festival brainchild, Paul Booth. The focus of this year's event will be more about the art, culture and history of tattoos and tattooing than the musical focus of Tattoo The Earth festivals of the past.
Skinlab are no strangers to the world of ink and body modification. While all members of the band have plenty of ink and piercings of their own, guitarist Snake has built a reputation as a tattoo artist having inked members of Panteral, Flaw, Kitie, Superjoint Ritual and Machinehead as well as his fellow band members, not to mention many Skinlab fans inked during various tours. Says Snake of the opportunity to play the esteemed show, "It's perfect for a band like Skinlab. Everyone in the band are about the tattooing lifestyle. Tattooing and metal. You couldn't ask for a better job. We cannot wait to be a part of it."
Cradle of Filth Studio Update
British gothic black metallers Cradle Of Filth have opened the cellar door to Parkgate Studio in Hastings, England in which the band is recording their newest platter, Damnation and a Day, for Sony Music.
"The studio is akin to a buzzy hive of activity right now, with several recording processes' going on at the same time. In addition to the main recording room we've got our own studios B and C set up for development of everyone's integral musical parts," explains bassist Dave Pybus (ex-Anathema, Dreambreed) in the official Cradle Of Filth newsletter. "Once a drum take has been finalised we re-demo each track with guitars, bass, keyboards and even vocals before the 'final take' in the main control room, pushing our outlet for ideas to the limit and saving us a lot of time in wasted experimentation in a studio that is costing the best part of a grand a day. Nothing is spared (obviously including expense). Every avenue is explored, each of us adding our own ingredients right up to the last minute. And it doesn't stop there. Ideas are still encouraged and developed during the final recording phase and captured there and then for everyone to hear, helping the songs become even more dynamic, streamlined and complete. At least that is the general intention! " More...
