Anselmo scratches eye, Down cancels gig

Down cancelled their scheduled non-Ozzfest appearance at Montreal's Parc Jean Drapeau last night after frontman Phil Anselmo scratched his cornea at the previous night's show in Clifton Park, New York (allegedly as a result of hitting the mic while headbanging), thus forcing him to wear an eye-patch until his eye has healed.

Guitarist Pepper Keenan and drummer Jimmy Bower reportedly came on stage immediately prior to Down's scheduled performance and announced their non-appearance at the gig (which also included sets by System Of A Down, Meshuggah, Pulse Ultra), promising instead to come back in November and "kick some serious ass."

At the time of this writing, it is not clear if Down's show at Hamilton, Ontario's Copps Arena on August 1st will go ahead as planned or if Anselmo will rest his eye until the group's next scheduled Ozzfest appearance, which is set to take place on Saturday, August 3rd at Columbus, Ohio's Polaris Amphitheater.
