Capital Punishment Set for September 24th
Napalm Death's Punishment In Capitals DVD will be released in the UK on September 24th through Snapper Music. The 75-minute concert, recorded at ULU London, also contains a 45-minute documentary, plus exclusive interviews with the band along with never-before-seen live footage from around the world. Punishment In Capitals was filmed in one take to capture the urgency that has become the band's signature. "We're at our best in live situations," says bassist Shane Embury. "The rapport between ourselves and the audience really does fire us up. The more feedback we get from the crowd the better," adds vocalist Barney Greenway. The show also benefited S.H.A.C. Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty, an organization rallying for the termination of the Huntingdon Life Science Laboratories experimentation on animals. "I'm so pleased we got the chance to raise a decent amount of money for this organization because the cause is one very close to my heart," says Greenway.
Middle Aged Sabbath Tribute
An Estonian record company has released an album of Black Sabbath songs played by a quintet specializing in music from the Middle Ages and singing in the main literary language of that era, Latin, according to the Associated Press. ``If you take away the massive wall of sound from many Sabbath songs, what you have is pure 14th century music,'' producer Mihkel Raud said. The 12-track album—called Sabbatum, Latin for sabbath—includes such tunes as ‘Wheels Of Confusion’ (`’Rotae Confusionis’) and ‘War Pigs’ (‘Verres Militares’), among others.
The Haunted Complete Nine Songs
Swedish high-energy thrashers The Haunted have completed "about nine songs" their forthcoming third full-length CD, due in early 2003 through Earache Records, according to a posting from bassist Jonas Björler on the group's official web site. "The process of writing songs usually starts off with one good riff or a good rhythm idea, and then the song basically writes itself. Everybody has input to every song, and that gives the songs the diversity that is hard to achieve when you write a song totally on your own."
As previously reported, The Haunted have booked five weeks at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden beginning on August 26th for the recording of the follow-up to the quintet's acclaimed Made Me Do It CD (2000).

No Vocalist, but plenty of New Songs for The Crown
Swedish thrashers The Crown are not letting the fact that they have yet to secure a permanent replacement for frontman Tomas Lindberg get in the way of the songwriting process for the group's next studio album, guitarist Marko Tervonen has revealed via the group's official web site.
"[Bassist] Magnus [Olsfelt] has probably around 10 new songs ready and we have actually started rehearsing 2-3 of them," Tervonen wrote. "It really doesn't matter who will do the vocals in the future, The Crown sound will remain as long as the four of us take care of the music. I mean, we pretty much wrote and rehearsed the whole Crowned In Terror album without a vocalist. We know how to take care of business!!" More...

"Having recently received the rough mix of our new album, In Harmonia Universali," says Solefald visionary Cornelius Jakhelln, "I can only say it sounds like Solefald! Positively, it does! The dingbats who always thought of us as a crazy band, will think so still; the people who on the contrary care about the music, will discover a bosom/bum/butt-kicking, progressive Heavy Metal record."
