Joe Satriani on Kirk Hammett

There is an interview with Joe Satriani on Turkish music magazine Blue Jean (Issue July 2002). The interview is about Joe Satriani's "Strange Beatiful Music" album but there is a part of interest to Metallica fans:

Blue Jean: Everybody knows, you were Kirk Hammett's guitar teacher. Some people say you stopped giving lesson to Kirk, because he is more into thrash metal. Is it true?

Joe Satriani: No, I was Kirk's teacher for 2 years. When I was his teacher, Kirk was playing in Exodus, then he joined Metallica. Those were really importand lessons. Sometimes Kirk came to me and we studied on the solos that Kirk did for Metallica. I recommended
somethings on those solos. But then my "Surfing With The Alien" album was released and the album was very successful. I toured with Mick Jagger so my own career's started. Kirk Hammett was my last student.

Seven Witches Recruits James Rivera

In a bit of secrecy worth of the plans for the invasion of Normandy, the identity of the next Seven Witches singer remained a mystery, until Jack Frost showed up at the Classic Metalfest with singer James Rivera (Helstar/Destiny's End/Flotsam and Jetsam) in tow. "Rivera flew up from Florida," begins Frost, with his habit of refering to friends by their last name. "Ask him if he knows the songs. He's only had two days of rehearsals. We'll see how it goes this weekend, but it looks like he's the guy!"

Skyclad Cancel Milwaukee Fest Appearance

Skyclad have cancelled their appearance at this year's Milwaukee Metalfest, which is scheduled to be held on July 26th and 27th in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. According to the band, "the original idea behind doing this gig was to use it as a promotional visit (for mags etc.) and to possibly add a few more shows around the festival date. While there have been some developments in these areas, the band feel that at the present time (i.e. 'peak season') a trip to the States to do just one show is not really viable."

"On a more positive note, we would like to add that this decision has been taken with the full agreement of the Metalfest organisers (who were, after all, footing the bill), so much so that Skyclad are hoping to reschedule this gig and play the Metalfest in New Jersey, March 2003, along with a few more shows to promote the next album, of which recording commences in August."
