Invocator's Seven Years of Silence Ends

Denmark's thrashers Invocator have reportedly signed with Scarlet records and are planning a new release after seven years of silence. The current line up features vocalist/guitarist Jacob Hansen, bassist Carsten Mikkelsen, guitarist Flemming Lund (ex-Autumn Leaves) and drummer Jacob Gundel (ex-Withering Surface).

Freternia's Nightmare Story

Sweden's Freternia's new album, A Nightmare Story, is scheduled for an October release through Arise Metal. The disc was recorded at Underground Studios and mastered by Mike Jussila at Finland's FInnvox Studios. The cover artwork was painted by Jean Pascal Fournier, who has also work with Avantasia and Edguy.

The Black Widows Inks Deal with Equal Vision

Louisville hardcore band, The Black Widows, have reportedly signed a deal with Equal Vision Records. The band is currently writing material for a new full-length that will see release through EVR in early 2003. Of course in the interim, the band has a few things going on. They will be releasing their Stops A Beating Heart EP on 10" vinyl with two extra songs for Reflections Records, followed by a split 7" with Downpour on Deathwish Inc. There is also talk of a possible split with fellow Initial Records band, Blood Red. Lifeforce Signs Two Bands

Lifeforce Records has added two new signings to their roster, Destiny and Mindfield. Formed in 1997, Germany's Destiny has previously released material on Autark Records, and more recently, Beniihana Records (including a split with The Killing Fields in 2001). The band plays hardcore/metal, and you can listen to some of their stuff here. Look for the release of their Lifeforce debut in July of 2003. The other band signed is Mindfield, a German band whom Lifeforce describes as "modern melodic but also harsh and atmospheric metal." The band was formed in 1994 and has released two EP's and a full-length (Gutter Records). The tentative release date for their Lifeforce debut, Below (listen to a track here. ), is May of 2003.

Marduk To Shoot To Videos for Next Album

Marduk are scheduled to film two promo clips in connection with the release of the next album, which is scheduled to be recorded in September at Abyss studio with producer Peter TÃĪgtgren. Plans also exist for the group to record a full-length concert for a DVD release, which will also contain all of the group's promo clips and a lot of undisclosed additional material.

H.I.M. To Issue Single Collection

Finland's H.I.M. will be issuing a Single Collection set containing the band's nine singles and the previously-unreleased single "It's All Tears". An October 7th release via G.U.N./Supersonic Records is expected.

Dream Theater Cancel TV Appearance

Dream Theater have been forced to cancel the appearance on the CBS' The Early Show, originally scheduled for September 14th. According to an official statement from the band, "the show was only able to provide us with a performing situation that would have been 'musically compromising' and one which would have given an improper representation of the band and its music."

"We're sorry to be disappointing any fans that were looking forward to the show," continued the statement, "but, to be honest, we were hoping to not even make this possible appearance public until further information was provided to us first and unfortunately the information was prematurely leaked on Elektra's website. "

Kerry King Speaks On Metal

Slayer's typically-outspoken guitarist Kerry King has once again offered his opinion on a number of other bands during a recent interview with Metal Update, which has been posted online at this location. Here are a few of Kerry's comments as they appear in said interview:

On In Flames:
"Um, they're all right…They've done a random show or two with us in Europe the past couple years. I guess musically they're pretty happening, but not that entertaining to watch for me. I need to be entertained, you know, anybody can play fucking guitar."

On Arch Enemy:
"To me, it's Euro-metal, you know? It might be the next thing, a lot of people say it is, but I'm into more aggression." More...

Lithium Find Record Deal
