Haunter To Release New Album In May
Austin, Texas-based progressive death/black metal unit Haunter has completed work on their new album, "Discarnate Ails." The record is confirmed for release May 6 through Profound Lore Records, who today issues its details including preorders and a clip of the monstrous "Chained At The Helm Of Eschaton."
The follow up to 2019’s "Sacramental Death Qualia" LP, "Discarnate Ails" will unveil Haunter as one of the most enlightening and dynamic bands within the present-day progressive death/black metal movement and one of the pioneering prospects of the scene.
With "Discarnate Ails," Haunter has tapped into the next level unparalleled with their most complex, advanced, and their most furious and heaviest release to date. The three epic chapters that form the album weave through intricate, dissonant, and vitriolic passages that find the notable balance of challenging melodious movements and parts while maintaining the band’s sense of creating epochal songs of triumph and mastery.
Mixed by Arthur Rizk and mastered by Dan Lowndes, "Discarnate Ails" features cover artwork by Elijah Tamu, additional art by 47_N_74D0 and Saprophial, and design by Chimere Noire.
"Discarnate Ails" will see digital, CD, and cassette release on May 6, with the vinyl to follow this summer. Find preorders via Profound Lore, and watch for vinyl updates, an official video, and more to be issued. More...
Railgun Unveils New Music Video
Canada-based melodeath band, Railgun, have released a new music video for their single "No Machine," streaming now. Check out the video for "No Machine," directed by Mike Hjorth below.
On the new single, Railgun state:
"Instrumentally, 'No Machine' was written to be a bare bones, no bells and whistles banger. It’s catchy, heavy, and straight to the point. We wanted to really boil down on the songwriting and production on this song so it would translate well into a live setting.
"Lyrically, it touches upon a few different subjects, but broadly speaking it’s about forging your own way, towing the line between darkness and light. We definitely think people will relate to this song for a multitude of reasons." More...
The Defaced Posts New Lyric Video Online
Swedish metal veterans, The Defaced are releasing a new video for the song "Wreck." It's taken from the bands upcoming album "Charlatans" that will be released on Vinyl, CD & digital on March 4!
The band about the song:
"The lyrics are about the aftermath of an ended relationship. The feelings one can feel after the dust has settled after the initial shock and hypertension has left body and soul. One can still have a deep attraction to each other but there is no way the relationship can continue, too much trust and hard words has been spilled along the way and the sadness that can bring to both parties.
"We have always been very intrigued by soviet propaganda posters and aesthetics. A relationship can sometimes feel like a totalitarian state, where you sometimes can feel that your personal freedom is restricted. I was in East Berlin with my parents a couple of months before the Berlin wall was torn down and I still remember the gloominess of grayness of the buildings and clothes. The lyrics are projected upon walls just like communistic propaganda. I loved how our video producer Rob Hakemo imitated the Cyrillic alphabet, it created an extra tension to the video." More...
Michael Schenker Group Reveals New Album Details
There are few rock guitarists on this planet who have had such a lasting influence on so many renowned musicians as Michael Schenker. With his outstandingly fluid style, inexhaustible wealth of ideas and instinctive feel for hooks and melodies, Michael Schenker is a living legend who, despite his longstanding and distinguished history, still impresses with his unflagging energy and drive. The blond stringsman from Sarstedt (Germany) began his international career in the early 1970s with the Scorpions, achieved worldwide fame after joining British rock group U.F.O. and then seamlessly continued his exceptional global success story under his own name, as well as with acts such as Michael Schenker Group (MSG for short), Temple Of Rock and Michael Schenker Fest. Schenker and his career, which has spanned more than fifty years, are absolute exceptions in the otherwise short-lived music industry.
Now his latest MSG album is about to be unleashed, scheduled for release on Atomic Fire Records on 27 May 2022 under the programmatic moniker of "Universal". His latest offering will feature all the strengths of this exceptional musician: first-rate songs with anthemic melodies, catchy guitar riffs and inspiring solos. As we have come to expect from him, Schenker has once again enlisted a number of prestigious fellow musicians for the recording of his new studio production, among them, as main vocalist, Ronnie Romero (Rainbow, Vandenberg), who will also be MSG’s frontman on their upcoming tour, Michael Kiske (Helloween) and Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), keyboard player Steve Mann (Lionheart), drummers Simon Phillips (Toto, The Who), Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Foreigner), Bobby Rondinelli (Rainbow) and Bodo Schopf (Eloy), as well as legendary bassists Bob Daisley (Black Sabbath), Barry Sparks (Malmsteen, Dokken) and Barend Courbois (Blind Guardian, Zakk Wylde), with Tony Carey as a very special guest. But more about that later.
First, let’s talk about the basic parameters of the new recording: Like its predecessor "Immortal" (2021) and the Michael Schenker Fest albums "Resurrection" (2018) and "Revelation" (2019), "Universal" was produced by Michael Schenker and Michael Voss (Lessmann/Voss, Mad Max) at Voss's Kidroom Studio, which has become something of a creative home-away-from-home for Schenker. "Michael Voss is happy to wait until I have worked out an idea and takes the time to really get to know the song, simultaneously developing ideas for the vocals," Schenker describes the fruitful collaboration which has one cog intermesh with the other. "Then we work out the drums, bass and some keyboard parts together. He always has plenty of great ideas up his sleeve." Compositional highlights abound on "Universal", from the haunting opener ‘Emergency’ and the subsequent "Under Attack" with its casually driving groove to "The Universe," featuring an atmospheric duet by Ronnie Romero and Gary Barden, ‘Wrecking Ball’, performed as brilliantly as ever by Ralf Scheepers, and "London Calling" with its homage to the British capital’s musical spirit. Bleed From Within To Release New Album In June
Scottish fire-brands Bleed From Within are embarking on the most extraordinary year of their career. Ascending above a multitude of challenges that the past few years have spewed up, the band are elated to reveal the foremost details of their new studio album. The record, auspiciously named 'Shrine', will be released on June 3rd 2022. Available for pre-order now.
Launching proceedings is soaring new track 'Levitate', accompanied by a stunning video. An erudite masterclass in modern metal, 'Levitate' affirms Bleed From Within's infinite talent - asserting their importance in modern heavy music, laying the pathway to echelons anew.
Bleed From Within stated,
“’Shrine’ is the sonic embodiment of the dedication to our craft, representing everything that we’ve been through to stand where we are today. By far our most challenging album to complete, ‘Shrine’ is a testament to our resilience. It is clear recognition of what we’ve been able to accomplish so far, but also a taste of our potential as we continue this journey.
As we fought through the writing process, we were continually fueled by society's darkest moments. The lies. The inequality. The violence. We just couldn’t comprehend it. Ultimately, ‘Shrine’ was our outlet for the anger that we felt as we bore witness to the chaos. It listened as lockdowns tested our resolve, and gave us a reason to get out of our beds in the morning.
We are never finished. We are in a constant state of self-improvement as the band continues, so up until this point, we can honestly say that ‘Shrine’ is truly our finest work. It is everything we’ve ever wanted to accomplish as a band, and it has inspired us beyond belief. We start this campaign knowing that this is our greatest accomplishment, our proudest moment, and soon to be our biggest album. For all those that continue to support us, this is for you. This is ‘Shrine’.” More...
BillyBio Shares "Black Out" Music Video
"Black Out" is the new BillyBio video single from the album titled, "Leaders And Liars," which is set for March 25, 2022 release worldwide. In light of current global events, "Black Out" lyrics will surely resonate with many fans around the world: "you pushed me over the edge / now I'm seeing blackness / fear is the enemy, destroyer of fate / control the future, fight the negative."
Graziadei says "Self control is a path not followed by many. The ability to deal with dark emotions in a positive manner is true enlightenment. I’ve missed the mark too many times in my life to go down that road another time. True strength comes from the power to overcome instinct. One thing we all need to remember: don’t mistake kindness for weakness. We all have that breaking point, a line in the sand that we draw. 'Black Out' is about the struggle to not cross that line — and the consequences to it being crossed." More...
Tenebra Reveals New Album Details
New Heavy Sounds is very proud to bring you "Moongazer," the second album by the four-piece stoner rock powerhouse from Italy, Tenebra. The band had already made waves on the scene with their debut album "Gen Nero" before delivering "What We Do is Sacred" their debut EP for New Heavy Sounds last year, 3 killer tracks that were but a taster of things to come. "Moongazer" takes the story a stage further with nine slabs of crushing fuzzed up grooves, fuelled by 70’s proto metal, hard rock, punk, psych-blues and noise, loaded with great riffs and melody and topped off by gutsy soulful vocals.
"Moon Maiden" is the first single to be taken from Tenebra’s the album. Featuring Gary Lee Conner of psych grunge legends (and one of Seattle’s most seminal bands) Screaming Trees providing guitar embellishments and a very cool central solo to boot. You can watch the video below.
The album will be released on April 29th 2022, via New Heavy Sounds in Europe and the rest of the world, and we are especially pleased to be collaborating with Seeing Red Records handling the US and Canada orders. More...

Crypta Unveils "I Resign" Music Video
Brazilian/Dutch death metal firestarters Crypta dropped one of the most anticipated metal debuts of 2021 with "Echoes Of The Soul," subsequently hitting the German album charts at #55, the US Current Hard Music Albums chart at #15 and Canadian Hard Music Albums chart at #13, amongst others and receiving massive acclaim from media and fans alike. Now, the high-voltage unit is thrilled to announce an official reissue of the album bundled with a very special bonus 7-inch, out April 1, 2022 via Napalm Records.
This razor-sharp treat features the brand new song "I Resign," a lost bonus track from the debut sessions, as well as a hard-hitting live version of "Shadow Within," a track found on Echoes Of The Soul. Now is the perfect occasion to gift fans with something special, after Crypta were forced to postpone their European tour earlier this year due to the ongoing pandemic.
Along with a riotous new official video, cutting track "I Resign" kicks in like an all-destroying wrecking-ball, showcasing another demonic facet of the four-woman force of fury.
Tainá Bergamaschi on "I Resign":
"'I Resign' is a song that features elements from most of our main influences, along with characteristics from both our previously released album Echoes of the Soul and the new material we’ve been writing. We tried to blend epic melodies followed by aggressive riffs throughout the track, which, combined with the lyrics, tell a story of despair."
Fernanda Lira adds:
"We thought unveiling an unreleased track right now would be a great way of gifting our fans with something nice while they wait for our tours to start! Also, the lyrics, which are more current than ever, are a good food-for-thought while listening to this very special song for us." More...
Watain Releases New Lyric Video
Right before the start of their extensive US tour with Norwegian peers Mayhem, notorious Swedish black metal collective Watain has unveiled 'Serimosa' - the second single from their upcoming new studio album, "The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain," which will be released on April 29th, 2022.
"Serimosa" sees a shift in pace from its furious predecessor "The Howling," heading towards more of a gloomy and Gothic landscape, yet bearing the unmistakable black mark of Watain. Lyrically, its contemporary acuteness and prophetic quality is just as unnerving as it is comforting.
E. Danielsson (vocals) comments,
"'Serimosa' tells of the electric notion of the coming of a great power. The appearance of cracks in the dam that holds the flood of the great sea. A visitor from the beyond, crossing the threshold into the material world.
"Just like 'Watain' - 'Serimosa' is a word/name of power communicated out of unknown origin, appearing into the world sans history, to be approached with thought and reverence. Its linguistic root may be traced from the Latin word Seri ("serum") along with Dolorosa ("pain") Nebulosa ("starfog") Lacrimosa ("tearfilled"), as if those words and their meanings were spoken as one. In her hand she holds the stern light of renewal, of transformation, of merciless cleansing. Thematically, Serimosa also holds similarities to the fiery Samhara aspect of Nataraja, the doomsday dance of Shiva marking the dissolution of order at the end of an eon.
May she bring you far and deep." More...

Unearthing the Metal Underground: Necrom
Ukraine is currently plastered across all forms of media at the moment because of the Russian invasion. Beyond the immediate human suffering, the lasting geopolitical consequences are and will be profound and seemingly immeasurable. Germane to our world of heavy metal, however, the Ukrainian metal scene has long been vibrant, prominently inclined toward the darker side of things. Nocturnal Mortum is one of the more notable names, and some of that black metal band’s current and former members are involved with Necrom, a relatively newer death metal band that guzzles from the goblet of classic European death metal line in the vein of Asphyx, Entombed and Carnage.
