Heterochrome Posts New Music Video Online

Iran’s Heterochrome has a new album "From the Ashes" coming out this spring and the second single to entice listeners is the heavy "Badbadak (The Flight)." Somber and driving in both topic and music, the single revisits the 2020 tragedy of flight 752. The band explains further:

"January of 2020 marked the tragedy of the Iranian Government shooting down the Ukrainian passenger airplane killing many of our loved ones including one of Mida’s old schoolmates. In the grief following that loss, Mida drew from an old school song called 'Badbadak (The Kite)' and wrote this song. The music video represents the same suffering."

The visually striking video was created by Mani Zonoozi who made it in a small aquarium with underwater equipment in the USA. It also features shots from Mida and Arash recorded in Canada and Finland.

The single and video for "Badbadak (The Flight)" can be seen below.

This is not the only song on the album to deal with dark subject matters, as a whole, it is a much deeper dive into the personal experiences of the band members than their debut. They hope that the fans appreciate the new path they are taking, and connect with the songs on the same personal level as them. Written as a concept album, each track forms a small part of a bigger picture, and while each serving is a unique story on its own the album has been tailored to be enjoyed as a whole.

Heterochrome started out with a melodic and emotional progressive sound, however over time they started to experiment with the alternative, electronic, and nu-metal genres as well, trying to find a balance to perfectly capture the essence of their sound between those styles and traditional Persian music. They are recommended listening for fans of Porcupine Tree, Gojira, and Draconian.

"From The Ashes" will be released on May 13, 2022. More...

Unearthing the Metal Underground: Hallas

Sweden has had an abundance of artists who bow at the altar of metal and classic rock’s “roots bands,” if you will. While they’ve been grinding the axe for 20 years and some change, Witchcraft, for instance, has been worshipping classic bands of the sixties and seventies. And, of course, acts like Candlemass and Count Raven have been fundamental with regard to the establishment of doom metal in the eighties. More recently—since 2011, to be specific—Hallas has been making waves with its cross-pollination of proto-metal, seventies-based hard rock, psychedelic rock and folk. More...

Battlelore Announces First Album In Ten Years

The time has come to wield your sword and charge back to the battlefield! Following their last studio album, "Doombound" (2011), and extensive touring, Finnish heavy metal force Battlelore took a creative break. On June 3, 2022, the long, lingering 10-year sleep of the collective will finally end with the release of their much awaited, seventh record, entitled "The Return Of The Shadow," via Napalm Records!

"It wasn‘t intentional, time just passed, and we didn‘t want to push things to happen, because we knew that the new album would come when the stars are aligned and the time is right,” vocalist Tomi Mykkänen reveals. "This is our 'comeback' album and we are ready to be back!"
The album title perfectly represents their sensational comeback. Named after Tolkien‘s original, shelved title for his legendary epic fantasy novel Fellowship of the Ring, Battlelore's brand new album features nine Middle-earth themed songs, shining with the blistering aura the band has become known and loved for.

Today, they have finally shared a first track taken from "The Return Of The Shadow!" On "Firekeeper", the Lappeenranta-based fantasy metal warriors showcase their exceptional songwriting skills, diving deep into dark facets of symphonic yet heavy metal realms. The vocal duets of Tomi Mykkänen‘s power and the fairylike voice of Kaisa Jouhki merge with otherworldly guitars on this epic metal hymn!

Guitarist Jyri Vahvanen says about the track, "In the beginning there was nothing but silence. Then came the Creator called Ilúvatar and began a song which gave birth to a world called Arda, and in the heart of it he set a flame, The Secret Fire. The One, All Father, 'Firekeeper' of the World!" More...

Suicidal Angels Signs With Nuclear Blast Records

Greek powerhouse Suicidal Angels are happy to announce their return to the Nuclear Blast family, after over a decade. The band centered around mastermind Nick Melissourgos have been busy writing a new record, and are now ready to hit the studio in Athens in April.

Suicidal Angels comments on the signing news:
"Through the weirdest of times, we didn’t lay low, we didn’t lay back and wait. With hard work, never ending passion for what we love to do, we have reached the point where we can share some amazing news with you. After a dozen years, we are in the same exciting position, as in the past, to announce our return to Nuclear Blast. We renewed our vows and we are about to take the bull by the horns and do what we know best! Keep your eyes and ears open, more is yet to come. No matter what, onwards, always!”

Jaap Wagemaker, A&R Nuclear Blast continues:
"Nuclear Blast proudly presents the signing of Greek thrashers Suicidal Angels! Back in 2009 we released their album 'Sanctify The Darkness!' After that the band worked very hard building up their name across Europe releasing very strong albums like: Dead Again, Bloodbath, Division of Blood and especially their last album Years of Aggression which secured the band their highest charts entries in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Live, the band worked very hard on becoming a force to be reckoned with which they clearly showed on their tours with Satyricon and several thrash packages, and their shows at some big festivals across Europe. The band have used their downtime during the pandemic really well and are ready to go into the studio again to record their 8th album, hungry to confirm that they are one of the best thrash bands in Europe! Although the band was founded in 2001, just celebrating their 20th anniversary, the band are still young and with re-signing to Nuclear Blast they are ready to go to the next level!"

Watain Shares "We Remain" Music Video

Today, notorious Swedish black metal collective Watain are proud to unveil the third and final single from their upcoming new studio album, "The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain," which will be released on April 29th 2022.

The song is called "We Remain" and it represents the deepest shadow of the album, a profound contemplation on the winding abyss of the past. Fearlessly extending across the known borders of Watain's musical wilderness, "We Remain" also features noble contributions by Farida Lemouchi (ex. The Devil's Blood, Molassess) and Gottfrid Åhman (ex. In Solitude, PÅGÅ).

The video for "We Remain" was directed by Johan Bååth who has been documenting Watain's journey through the world for many years.

Erik Danielsson (vocals) comments:
"I begun writing 'We Remain' in 2012, as a meditation on the concept of Mythopoeia; our mythical origins and how our understanding and approach to them is shaped and transformed throughout time. The lyric is built around the five elemental wings of the Pentagram, and the mysteries embedded in that ancient symbol. It is a song about forgotten things that ought to be remembered, the search for truths that were lost, of the ever burning flame that illuminates the darkness of times immemorial, the passing of aeons and and our ponderable place therein." Interview

Satan Guitarist On New Album, Skyclad & NWOBHM

Only yesterday, during the introduction to our interview with Tygers Of Pan Tang, we mentioned how important the North East of England was to the British metal scene of the 1980s. There's no need to go through another list, but the eagle eyed among you may have noticed that there was one very important band left out of the introduction when it comes to metal in Tyne and Wear and that would be Satan.

Having formed in 1979, Satan would go on to release one of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal's greatest albums, "Court In The Act" four years later, before laying the name to rest soon after and changing their moniker to Blind Fury. After another album as Satan, "Suspended Sentence," they would once again rechristen themselves, this time to Pariah, before going their separate ways. As always, Satan returned to Earth, first as a one off in 2004 and then again in 2011 and since then, the band with the devilish tag has been on something of a roll, releasing a further three albums.

Tomorrow, the fourth album since their return, "Earth Infernal," will be unleashed via Metal Blade Records and it seems to be the darkest and most gritty offering from the Geordie legends yet. To find out more about what went into this record, we caught up with guitarist Steve Ramsey, who divulged all the info about the themes, art, touring plans and more, as well as what's happening with Skyclad, the folk metal pioneers which he also co-founded. You can read the interview below or listen to it in full at the bottom of the screen.

Diamond Oz: The new album, "Earth Infernal" is out on April 1st. What can you tell me about the title of this record?

Steve Ramsey: The title is about the planet burning, basically. There's no title track but a couple of songs refer to the title. We've observed over the past couple of years, especially in this country, that people were becoming so obsessed with the pandemic and the politics, that they forgot that the planet is on fire, we just thought we'd remind them.

Oz: Yeah, it's not something to ignore. It's cool though, it's like an umbrella term when it comes to the actual songs on this album. Like you said, there's a few tracks that relate to the title.

Steve: Yeah, there's a couple of tracks that relate to it. "Earth We Bequeath" is kind of like a time capsule message for future generations, sort of apologising for what we've done. There's another one, "Twelve Infernal Lords," which is kind of like a horror story but the idea is like this supreme court made up of twelve demon judges, including the guy on our artwork. They're hellbent on destroying the environment by using laws, bending laws, to plant seeds of mistrust and chaos and fucking the planet up.
