Blackrain Uploads New Lyric Video

French Sleaze rockers Blackrain released their new single and lyric video for the song "Raise Your Glass" today. The song is taken from the forthcoming studio album "Untamed," which will be released on November 25th. You can check it out below.

Sometimes it takes a few years until a band finds that perfect sound they have in mind for their songs. For the new album "Untamed" by the French Sleaze Rock formation BlackRain, that’s exactly the case. Although already established as a band with their six previous releases and also very successful on tour (among others with Europe, Alice Cooper, Scorpions or Steel Panther), the quartet around singer Swan now presents a work that sets new quality standards in every aspect. "We love the powerful sound, the banging drums, this awesome mix of catchy melodies and aggression that permeates ‘Untamed’ from the very beginning," bassist Matthieu de la Roche enthuses and goes on naming the producer of the new quality work: Hannes Braun, frontman of the German hard rockers Kissin' Dynamite and an important figure in sound engineering. De la Roche: "Hannes told us: ´I love your songs, your show really has excited me, I know exactly how your next record should sound!` Thanks to his help, we found the sound we’ve been looking for for ten years."

The connection between the French group and their German producer was practically self-evident: BlackRain accompanied Kissin' Dynamite on their last European tour and they were friends for about a decade. "Kissin' Dynamite was our support band in 2009 in a big gig in Paris. Now we are supporting them, and we are fine with this because it allowed us to cross Europe and catch a new public," tells De La Roche. Out of this friendship sprang a fruitful collaboration. Swan, the singer and frontman: "I honestly don't know how Hannes managed it, but whenever I sent him a new song for review and mix, he found that perfect last piece of the puzzle to refine it." Atena Posts New Music Video Online

Norwegian metalcore act Atena have returned with their first new single and music video for "Slip Away." With fast-paced verses, immensely catchy choruses, beautiful build-ups and slamming breakdowns, "Slip Away" has it all.

On the new single, Atena states:
"Usually, we’re not in control of how any of our songs end up and 'Slip Away' is a perfect example of that. While writing it became clear that it was very much about reminiscing the past and the melancholy of those last sunny days in the fall before winter."

Atena are putting modern Norwegian metalcore on the map with their relentless mix of heavy guitars, electronic samples and hip-hop influences. Following on from 2020’s "Drowning Regret & Lungs Filled With Water" album, the four-piece is back with a fresh sound, showing us another side to their music with their new track mixed and mastered by the highly proclaimed Swedish producer Henrik Udd (Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Dayseeker). Skald Unveils "Troll Kalla Mik" Video

French Nordic-themed cultural collective Skald have released their new single and cinematic music video for the track "Troll Kalla Mik." You can check it out below.

To cross the lands and forests of the hidden people is to risk losing one's life, or to be trapped in a bewitching elven circle. In this elven circle, humans find themselves bewitched, in a trance, caught in a hellish loop of dance until exhaustion, oblivion or death. The music video illustrates this dance of tow powerful spirits of light and darkness, which symbolises, in a poetic way, the beliefs of the Icelandic folklore of the Huldufólk. The possessed human is condemned to get lost eternally in the legendary bewitched path that protects the access to the other world.

The album artwork is a tribute to the Swedish painter John Bauer and his illustration titled Princess Tuvstarr, gazing down into the dark waters of the forest tarn. His work mainly focused on landscapes and mythology, but also portraits. His best known illustrations are of Bland tomtar och troll, (Among Gnomes and Trolls), an anthology of Swedish folklore and fairy tales. More...

Venomous Concept Reveals New Album Details

Venomous Concept, the hardcore punk band formed by Kevin Sharp of Brutal Truth and Shane Embury of Napalm Death, return in 2023 with their 5th album "The Good Ship Lollipop." Bonding over their love of punk heroes such as Black Flag, GBH and Poison Idea, the duo have been the core members of the band since 2004.

Now all these years later Venomous Concept are about to release their most unique album to date on 24th February. "When the pandemic hit we decided we needed to make an album that didn’t fit - we all loved so much other kind of punk and rock, so why not explore that which is in essence closer to our hearts?. To do the same album over and over again would be boring." Shane comments.

'The Good Ship Lollipop" sees Sharp and Embury joined by fellow Napalm Death member John Cooke alongside Carl Stokes, former drummer with UK death metal legends Cancer. "Having John Cooke of Napalm Death on guitar brought a new variety to the record, and Shane’s lifelong friend Carl Stokes formerly of the bands Cancer, Current 93 & The Groundhogs came in on drums to lay down some more solid rock grooves and old school power," Kevin adds.

First single 'Voices’ is described by vocalist Kevin as a track that, "deals with the darker side of manipulation in narcissism… the devaluing of gaslighting… the wiring and unwiring of deceptive abuse… re-discovering self-identity for the better and stronger… my humour is dark… I will place the most shit of human qualities next to a melody… it’s a coping mechanism…" More...

W.E.B. Releases New Behind The Scenes Video

Athens-based metal unit, W.E.B., recently unveiled their brand new video for "Murder Of Crows", taken off the full-length Colosseum that was released last year via Metal Blade Records. Today the band release a behind the scenes video. Find both clips below.

Comments guitarist/vocalist Sakis Prekas, "'Murder Of Crows' is about the loneliness of death, the greatest mystery of what the end of life's circle feels like and the emotions surrounding the very last moments of life. The concept of death in W.E.B. lyrics is not new, only this time, the inspiration was born after watching the Sons Of Anarchy series and the way life, death and morals were perceived in there by a culture that was yet unknown to me. Hence there are clearly several lyric references to the series, it is strongly filtered by W.E.B.'s music style combining melody, brutality and symphony elements. The video of 'Murder of Crows' incorporates much of the band's stage presence accompanied by the roles of Thanatos, the subconscious and the madness of reality." More...

Darkest Era Posts New Lyric Video Online

Guitarist Ade Mulgrew comments: "The song 'Wither On The Vine' pulls together many of the thematic threads across the album. It is inspired by the antithetical feeling of, on one hand, overwhelming despair at the social, political, and environmental realities of today, whilst simultaneously looking into the innocent eyes of childhood and wanting to maintain the illusion that there is only beauty in the world for as long as possible." Enslaved Set To Release New Album In March

Bergen visionaries Enslaved are proud to announce their 16th studio album, "Heimdal," set to be released on March 3rd 2023, via Nuclear Blast Records. Today's news is accompanied by the release of a blistering new single, titled "Congelia," alongside an emotive, environmental video.

Enslaved's Ivar Bjørnson & Grutle Kjellson commented:

"It’s quite weird, yet pretty awesome that we are now talking about the release of our 16th album; yes our 16th full-length album release. That’s not too shabby for a couple of scallywags from rural western Norway, is it? If you count our stint in the short lived Phobia-act, we have been playing together for no less than 32 years!

"In all these years, Norse mythology has been our umbilical cord to the realms of mysticism and philosophy, and our gateway to the realms of deep psychology and the esoteric worlds beyond. One of the most fascinating characters of our mythology is Heimdal, and he has been lurking around in our minds like an enigma for three decades now. His first appearance was in a song called 'Heimdallr' on our demo tape 'Yggdrasill' back in 1992, and he’s had both minor and more significant roles in our lyrical universe over the years.

"This time we have decided to dedicate an entire body of work to this most enigmatic of characters and richest of archetypes - we give you 'Heimdal.' We have reached deeper and scouted further ahead than ever before - the past, present and future sound of the band comes together in songs born from sheer inspiration - it is the common force of a close-nit group of friends and musicians." Unearthing the Metal Underground:Order of Nosferat

Bands featured in this column are typically either fresh new buds or long-timers who haven’t received their due exposure. On occasion, I highlight newer bands that are comprised of scene veterans. Case in point: Order of Nosferat. The project is comprised of Finland’s Anzillu on drums (From the Void, Iku-Turso, Nachtvrucht, Serpentfyre) and Germany’s Count Revenant on
vocals, guitars, bass and keyboards (Sarkrista, Slagmark, ex-Rituals of a Blasphemer, ex-Sarastus). As Order of Nosferat, the international act hasn’t been wasting time since its start in 2021, having released three full-lengths since that time. More...
