Ahab Reveals New Album Details
Following their much acclaimed, chart-impacting 2015 album, "The Boats Of The Glenn Carrig," and the epic "Live Prey" release (2020), 2023 will see extreme doom metal masters Ahab celebrate their 19th band anniversary in glorious style: On January 13, 2023, the German four-piece will return with their fifth studio album, entitled "The Coral Tombs," on Napalm Records! The release will mark their first full-length offering in eight long years.
The kings of nautik doom – a genre they invented – once again interpret a maritime novel, inspired this time by Jules Verne‘s masterpiece 20000 Leagues Under The Sea. Throughout seven new tracks, Ahab takes their fans on a new musical journey with Captain Nemo and Professor Arronax. Of their entire discography, "The Coral Tombs" is arguably the closest the band has come to their sound resembling a real soundtrack: it‘s evil, it‘s longing, it‘s sad, it‘s meditative, it‘s cavernous, it‘s vast, it‘s ridiculously epic and as heavy as the colossal squid itself!
But give ear, as today Ahab has shared a lyric video for their first single and album opening track, "Prof. Arronax‘ Descent Into The Vast Oceans." The song not only features Ultha's Chris Dark on guest vocals, but sees Ahab unleash a colossal thunder of blast beats and pitch black vibes before shifting into the epic grandeur of the melancholic-yet heaviness the band is known and loved for.

Deathstars Cancels European Tour Dates
Swedish industrial cult act Deathstars have announced with great regret, that they have to cancel their European dates, which were scheduled for January-March 2023.
You can read the band's statement here:
"Due to conflicting schedules we are forced to cancel the European tour dates in Jan-March 2023. This is due to a delayed album release, caused by earlier delays in the album production. The tour was originally booked for 2020, but due to the pandemic it was postponed time after time again. We’re now finally approaching the start of the next chapter, but the old unfortunately does not quite fit with the new. We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience this causes. All tickets will be refunded.
"We will return to the European continent as soon as we have the new album out and can present you with the very best Deathstars show. In the end this was a decision made because we want to give you our best and at the moment that is not possible. We have all waited this long, and it’s no time for compromise. You only deserve the very best. Please bear with us. We will be back shortly with more news. We love you all!"
Anzillu Posts New Music Video Online
Finnish extreme metallers Anzillu – whose sound is punctuated by buzz-saw guitar riffs delivered with equal amounts of dexterous shredding and pummeling anthemic brute force – release the fourth single/video from their anticipated debut album. Today the digital single "Discordia" is available on all streaming and download platforms and you can watch the video below.
"’Discordia’ was one of the reasons my previous band split up. It might be a divisive song for some people, but we firmly stand behind it," explains guitarist Jesse Kämäräinen. "In the album context it fits perfectly as a breather in between more brutal songs and showcases the band’s versatility in songwriting. The song’s longing melody gives it almost a power ballad vibe, while the tempo is punishing 200bpm with lots of guitar action that culminates to an epic solo. The lyrics deal with a withering friendship that takes more than gives and how to let go. I think it’s an important message that sometimes it’s just time to move on from something that once was great, but has only become a shadow of its former glory." More...
British Lion Announces UK Tour Dates
British Lion, the project formed by Iron Maiden founder Steve Harris, has announced a string of headline shows in the United Kingdom for this upcoming January.
Special Guests at all shows will be Coney Hatch from Canada – the band’s first ever UK tour (aside from a couple of one-off shows at Nottingham Firefest in 2011 and 2014) and featuring three members of the original 1980’s line-up: bass player & vocalist Andy Curran, lead vocalist & guitarist Carl Dixon and drummer Dave Ketchum, along with guitarist Sean Kelly who joined the band in 2018. Additional support on the tour comes from Airforce.
Steve Harris comments:
"We’re excited to be touring the UK again especially as we’ll be visiting many places we’ve not had a chance to play before. It’s fantastic that we’ve got long-time friends Coney Hatch coming over from Canada to join us. We had great fun when they were our special guests on the British Lion Canadian shows in 2018. And we’re happy to have our old mates Airforce back out on the road with us too. Everyone is really looking forward to this tour and we can’t wait to see everyone."

Féleth Streaming New Album
Féleth, from northern Norway, is now streaming their second album "Divine Blight," which they see as a solid step up from 2020’s "Depravity." They take on real-life events and put them to provocative music best described as melodic death metal with a healthy dose of technical death metal added in. The lyrical themes are often inspired by things that vocalist Espen Dagenborg finds massively wrong such as politicians waging war, being greedy, and also how humans can be extremely hateful against others. Then again there are also songs that are somewhat purely fictional, mostly showcasing his lyrical style.
As Féleth was the continuation of a former thrash metal band, IronBound, it’s natural to say that they started out as a thrash death band. As the then-young boys started to discover the joys of death metal the sound evolved more toward that. Along with the newfound joy came the struggle, for death metal wasn’t easy to play. After finally mastering the ways of death metal and having released "Depravity" disaster struck. The now not-so-young boys had developed a taste for technical death metal and big hooks. When the time came to work on "Divine Blight" they already had a handful of finished songs to choose from, each one a work of art - melodic, technical, brutal art. The band comments:
"After getting signed with our new label “Rob Mules Records” and playing some pretty sick gigs at both Buktafestivalen and Tons of Rock, we’re super stoked to release our new album 'Divine Blight.' It was a long and tedious process of selecting, practicing, and recording, but the result will speak for itself. Our best album thus far. It’s a collection of stories based on the dystopian path humanity is set on. We felt that throughout this new journey of an album we’ve refined our songwriting and successfully achieved a style that’s not only ass-whoppingly brutal, but also more complex emotionally and lyrically. It is clear that we’ve got multiple influences and styles throughout the album which all contribute to a massive sonic package. It’s definitely a death metal album with some subtle takes on some of its many subgenres. Two and half years after our debut “Depravity” we’re ready to present 'Divine Blight'."
The album was mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and the album artwork was done by Kahinienn Graphix. The Northern Norwegian technical death rock is recommended for fans of Fit For An Autopsy, Inferi, and Soreption.
The album "Divine Blight" comes out on November 11, 2022, and can be heard in full before its official release on Metal-Rules here.
At The Gates Releases Two Videos From Roadburn
Having performed their first live show with returning founding member and guitarist Anders Björler this past weekend at UK’s Damnation Festival, Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates will continue to promote their acclaimed latest studio album "The Nightmare Of Being" with a comprehensive tour across Europe alongside In Flames, Imminence and Orbit Culture starting later this week.
In order to accentuate the beginning of this massive tour, At The Gates are launching two very special video clips for the tracks, available below.
Originally featured on the bonus disc edition of "The Nightmare Of Being," these two deep cuts from the early At The Gates years were performed live in Tilburg, The Netherlands at Roadburn Festival in 2019 and the band’s longtime videography partner Costin Chioreanu / Twilight 13 Media created both an atmospheric performance clip for "The Burning Darkness (Live at Roadburn)" as well as an outstanding abstract clip for "The Scar (Live at Roadburn)."
Tomas Lindberg Redant added the following comment about the upcoming tour with In Flames:
"We are very excited about finally being able to play in front of our European fans in support of our latest album The Nightmare Of Being. This time we will hit the road with our long-time friends IN FLAMES. It’s such a weird fact that we have actually never toured together, although we are from the same town! So this will be a great opportunity to experience 'The Gothenburg sound,' and it is awesome to be part of such a strong package. We can't wait to get out there again!" More...
Nanowar Of Steel Debuts New Music Video
Nanowar Of Steel has proven themselves to be the masters of comedic and parody-infused metal! After numerous shows this year at Europe’s biggest festivals like Hellfest and Summer Breeze, the legendary Italian parody metallers successfully close the festival season with their brand-new single "Armpits Of Immortals," out now via Napalm Records! Once again, the band presents comedic writing as they describe the pleasant smell of armpits being lifted to the air. Joining the quintet is former Manowar guitarist Ross "The Boss" Friedman, playing some amazing riffs.
The heavy metal hymn, "Armpits Of Immortals," will shake you to the core with energetic riffs and powerful chants. Nanowar Of Steel gives audiences a really good time and the festival season is already sorely missed by the band and their fans alike. The video, produced by Valerio Fea and Beaver Prod, catches the incredible feeling of rocking out with the Italian band.
Nanowar Of Steel on "Armpits Of Immortals":
"This song is a celebration of the coming back of the festival season, not because we like to play live but because we like smelling other people's strong body odor!" More...
Monstrosity Announces European Tour Dates
The Floridian beast Monstrosity returns to Europe and will have technical death metallers Origin as direct support. Opening up will be Reject The Sickness (Belgium) and Intrepid (Estonia). With an all-encompassing setlist that spans Monstrosity's 30+ year career plus a special "Imperial Doom" set.
Comments Monstrosity's very own Lee Harrison: "We've been primarily focused on recording the new studio album. We wanted to take a break and do some live stuff to let everyone know we are still kicking. I've been working on the new record with guitarist Matt Barnes. Matt has been with the band since 2010 and he has become an important force in what we are doing now. He has really come into his own on this upcoming album and I think people will be blown away when they hear it.
"We have guitarist Justin Walker, who did the 2019 Europe tour and has been playing with us off and on since then. He‘s young and is a team player, so it's nice having him on board. Our original bassist, Mark Van Erp is back in the lineup. People will remember Mark from the Imperial Doom album back when George Corpsegrinder was fronting the band. He's always been a killer bassist and things worked out where it made sense to bring him back in. On vocals, we have been working with Ed Webb, who people may remember from his previous tenure with the band Massacre. Ed has been with us about a year now and it will be good to get out on a full tour and really stretch out with full sets every night.
"As for the tour, we wanted to give everyone a preview of what we have coming up in the future. The new album is turning out great, but there's still a lot of work to be done so we didn't want to wait to get back on tour. It delays the album a little, but it also keeps us in the fan's minds while they're waiting instead of being quiet for too long."
