Rock Against Diabetes 2008 Rocks Vegas

"Rock Against Diabetes 2008" was held at Club Rox in Las Vegas, Nevada. The club was kind enough to provide R.A.D. with a venue for the two-day event. Many artists gave of themselves to support the cause, which will not be forgotten by all of us that struggle with diabetes on a daily basis.

I got the chance to talk with the event founder and organizer, Darrin Buchanan, and he explained how all of this came about. Two years ago, Darrin's foot died on him virtually over night. He underwent a number of tests and the result was diabetes and that part of his foot would need to be removed. Here is a 36 year old man with a wife and young daughter and he was facing the fight of his life. From that experience Rock Against Diabetes began. The first event was held is Canada and Darrin, in his wheelchair, was keeping the show flowing and the event was a success. A chain of events led to a second surgery to remove more of Darrin's leg from the knee down, and now Darrin would be walking again after 2 years with the help of a prosthetic leg. It was fantastic to see Darrin running around for two days along with his lovely wife Lindsey. They are my heroes! I am sure glad we are on the same team in this daily fight that we diabetics face each day. They give me strength and hope! More...

Ivory Knight Guitarist Takes Hiatus to Record Solo

Rob Gravelle, guitarist for the Canadian Power Metal group Ivory Knight, has decided to take a sabbatical from the band to record his debut solo CD, tentatively entitled "No Plan B." Rob joined the band in 2000 and played on both their "Up from the Ashes" and "Unconscience" CDs. Rob's decision to record a solo CD came about while recording with guitar legend, producer, and Annihilator mastermind, Jeff Waters.

"I just wrote so much material for that album that I was already half done the music for my own CD by the time we had finished recording" recalls Rob. Look for "No Plan B" sometime in the spring of '09.

Meanwhile, Rob is also recording covers of classic rock songs in his own trademark prog/speed/classic metal style. The Police's "Synchronicity II" already available for download on iTunes and other digital download applications. Watch for covers of The Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz," Cheap Trick's "Dream Police," and the "Barber of Seville" Overture in the very near future. More...

Metallica Reveals More About Next Single

Metallica has posted the following update online:

"The next track from Death Magnetic, 'All Nightmare Long' will get the full on treatment with a CD single collection available throughout Europe and other parts of the world (sorry, not in North America). Here's how it works ... starting December 15 you can pick up the collector's digi pack with the album version of 'All Nightmare Long" along with 'Wherever I May Roam' and 'Master Of Puppets' recorded live in Berlin at the DM release bash at the 02 World back in September.

"If you would like to complete your single collection, there are two more components available in what our record company calls a 'J card' (??) . . . CD 2 has the track again, 'Blackened' and 'Seek And Destroy', also recorded at the Berlin 02. Finally, if you just have to own the entire set, there is a third release, a DVD including a 10 minute mini-documentary about our day in Berlin along with 20 minutes worth of live tracks from that night's album release party, as well another 15 minute movie of yours truly in the tuning room at the Rock Im Park show earlier that summer.

"For those of you who prefer the digital version, check your friendly online providers and you will be able to download all the tracks, including the videos.

"Happy Days!"

Megadeth Frontman Dave Mustaine Checks In

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has posted the following update online:

"We had a good day yesterday at the studio. And Shawn Drover pulled in around 2PM if memory serves me well. I was working most of the day on listening to stuff for the demos, and went over the R.I.P. demos again, the Trent Reznor mixes of 'Symphony Of Destruction' (which are genius in my book - great job Trent . . . even tho you'll never see this), and found four more really good songs I taped. I know this sounds wacky to have all of these riffs around, but that is the way some musicians work. Hell, I checked my messages on the studio answering machine, and I heard a sleepy dood that sounds like me singing a guitar riff into the phone in the middle of the night.

"I really do that

"Today Wayne from STATIC-X is coming down to Vic's Garage (the name will make sense if you ever record here), and we should have a fun day, er well, night, since he is getting here at the time I usually go back home. Ha! We had a great tour with Static-X in Oz for Gigantour down there last time, and I am honoured to be able to try my hand at this with Wayne and Koichi. More...

Velvet Revolver Dropped From RCA/Sony BMG Records

BLABBERMOUTH.NET has received word from a reliable source that RCA Records (a Sony BMG label) has dropped VELVET REVOLVER, the band featuring former GUNS N' ROSES members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum.

VELVET REVOLVER released two full-length albums through RCA/Sony BMG — 2004's "Contraband," which has sold 1.98 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan; and its follow-up, "Libertad," which has shifted 301,000 units in the U.S. since its July 2007 release.

VELVET REVOLVER has been looking for a new frontman since dismissing Scott Weiland back in April. Rumored candidates have included ex-SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach, former MTV VJ Steve Isaacs (THE PANIC CHANNEL) and ex-SPACEHOG vocalist Royston Langdon, who apparently had several successful rehearsal sessions with the band. Intronaut Posts New Music Video Online

Progressive metallers Intronaut has uploaded their first music video online for the song, "Australopithecus." You can check it out below. Frontman Sacha Dunable had the following to say: “We made our first ever music video. It was done by Sera Timms (Isis, Pelican) and I must say I am pretty impressed. We were kind of concerned that a video would come across as cheesy or forced, but Sera made a really elaborate storyline to go along with the very vague lyrical content (quite a feat) and just made this amazing video that we can totally be proud of. We can’t wait for you all to see it and we will be back on the road soon.” More...

Anette Olzon Walked Off Due To Vocal Problems

ANETTE OLZON sent a press release to Brazilian media where she clarified the reasons behind her sudden "collapse," which caused her to leave the stage in the middle of the NIGHTWISH show in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on November 10th 2008.

OLZON stated that the smoke on stage got on her vocal chords to make her lose her voice. She was trying to sing until she reached the point she couldn't do it anymore and therefore was "forced" to leave the stage.

NIGHTWISH has always had a very good and close relation to their fans in Brazil and the thought of disappointing the fans was too great for Anette. The band tried to buy some time for Anette to regain her voice back but it didn't. NIGHTWISH ended up playing two more songs after Anette left the stage but were forced to stop the show after that.

After the show, people stayed in the venue to get some kind of explanation to what happened. After a while, promoter Eric de Haas from Dynamo Productions came on stage to tell the fans that the concert was over and Nightwish was already back on their hotel.

It is reported that the next show NIGHTWISH did the next day in the capital of Brazil (BRASILIA) went well and the band the song THE POET AND THE PENDULUM on their setlist.

Soon afterward, Olzen had an interview with MTV Brazil, which you can watch below. More...
