Blabbermouth.net reports: Indevent USA and EBT3 Creations have launched their new multi-media company, Reign Productions. The company's first project will carry a multi-million dollar budget for a music video game catering exclusively to metal music. The game will include a soundtrack with performances from major metal artists as well as cameo appearances within the video game. The game will also include the formation of a new "supergroup" metal band. Production for this project will begin later this month.
The company will be headed by Peter Scheithauer (TEMPLE OF BRUTALITY, KILLING MACHINE) of Indevent USA and Bruce Teal of EBT3 Creations and will include Dale Russell (THE GUESS WHO, SASS PROJECT) and Jon Dette (SLAYER, TESTAMENT). Participants in this project currently include Global Unity Limited (Demolition Records), Gerard Drouot (Gerard Drouot Production), Fabio Jafet (Emmy Award-winning director), Ralph Graupner (Indevent) Stephane Minier (Yardie Productions), Thomas Lang (world-renowned drummer) and Alex Maltezo (Radius Media).
A major announcement for this project will be made at the 2009 winter NAMM convention in Anaheim, California.

Mark my words, there is just something in the air. I can smell it haha. Metal is going to takeover music again. I'm not talking about Limp Bizkit and Slipknot crap, I really think everything has had it's time; Grunge, Boy Bands, Rap, Rap-Metal, Pop, etc...
There is a lot of signs pointing to a new dawn of metal to the masses. This game being one of them. With the explosion of games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band introducing a new audience to great heavy bands, and the constant status of VH1 metal documentaries and MTV2 getting bigger I really think it's due for a new wave of metal to come through.
Granted I don't give two f ucks about this game, but regardless as cheesy as it sounds I think it's coming!

^I was thinking the same thing, almost verbatum. I'm guessing this is going to be a guitar hero type game. Too many people have been wondering when they were going to make a metal version for them to not eventually consider it. Granted, it will probably be as mainstream as possible, with A7x and Slipknot appearances frolicking all over the place. Then again, look at the guys who are working on it...so, maybe...meshuggah? lol
If it isn't a rock band type game, I have no clue what the hell is goin on, and it frightens me to think what they might do to my metal... :O

A few months back I read something about a guitar-hero like game with all metal songs on it either on this site or ultimate guitar. It had a pretty awesome track listing, but unfortunately the only song I can remember right now is Holy Wars... The Punishment Due.

Sounds like a Guitar Hero type of game, but then again there have been metal themed games that aren't about playing an instrument. Take Earache Extreme Racing, which from what I recall was basically Twisted Metal with an all Earache band soundtrack and heavy metal themed cards. I suppose I wouldn't mind an all metal Rock Band (there are only so many times I can scream that one At the Gates song and one Devildriver song on Rock Band) to give more variation in the types of songs with extreme vocals.

I think what you are referring to is "Brutal Legend". Lots of blood and gore, and a metal soundtrack. Jack Black, Lemmy, Rob Halford and Ronnie James Dio are doing voices for it. Looks like it might be fun, and the soundtrack sounds like its going to be some great bands too. Who knows though.

The only way metal ever gets mass exposure is if it is watered down and pathetic - Avenged Sevenfold, any Glam bands from the 80s etc. Metal will forever be underground where it should be, untainted by the money machine. This videogame will sacrifice creativity to sell, f*** it.

^ That's why Moterhead, AC/DC, Metallica, etc... all have shirts you can buy as "vintage" looking fashions in your local mall and/or Target/Walmart? Not to mention how underground you go it will always spew it's way onto Hot Topic shelves. They mine as well sell a full costume kit for everyone who wants to be metal. Each kit will be based on how metal you want to be. For example, the black metal kit will be corpse paint, a mayhem shirt, cargo army shorts, and a black wig.
There's not much you can do to "protect" any kind of metal from getting exposed. As much as I wanted it to years ago, I was horribly disappointed when I found out my favorite bands at the time (Cradle of Filth, Opeth, and Dream Theater) were all signed to Road Runner where their careers would begin the downward spiral of American mainstream metal. Soon after I learned to live with it, and rather than try to embrace it just deal with it.

p.s. - I love the picture Cynic. I can tell you put a lot of work into convincing the viewer you were a hardcore black metaler! Hair down, block clothing, upside down cross, and even a noose for good measure! Way to utilize the empty space in the photo. Now I don't know what you poison is (Gorgoroth, Behemoth, Dimmu, etc...) or if your one of those very strict black metal fans who only listens to TRUE black metal (farting into tin can sounding recordings). Regardless, I just wanted to commend you for the pic.

Have to say though, Opeth might have signed to Roadrunner, but they have consistently put out good albums. They are my favorite band though, so I am a bit biased. Watershed had some slower and easier pieces like "Burden" and "Coil", but still retained their heaviness and death metal growl with "Heir Apparent" and "The Lotus Eater". Phenomenal band, and if you can catch 'em live I highly suggest it. Their live shows are amazing.

Well that makes sense now. Xasthur is one of the cult followed "basement black metal" musicians. That explains the "taken in my parents house but still trying to be insane and dark" quality to the photo. I agree that Opeth are quite an amazing band, and I give them props for exploring their sound and their audience. I guess I just can't get into their newer stuff as much as their older stuff anymore.

Pfft. This game will likely be A7F, Trivium, Metallica, Slipknot, Soulfly, maybe a Slayer song or two, maybe a Sepultura song or two... and of course a few 'classic' metal songs, Maiden and Sabbath... I doubt there'll be anything much that'll turn serious Metalheads' heads.
Also curious about the Supergroup. It would be cool if you could choose your own members. hmmm.... Patton on vocals... Opeth guy on lead (why can't I remember his name?! Akerfeldt? Something like that)... hmmm.... I'm going to have to think about who to put on bass and rhythm - and drums! :/

Supergroup, hmmm? Honestly would want to pick everymember of Opeth, but Ill go with this as a first draft :)
Vocals-Michael Ackerfeldt (Opeth)
Rhythm Guitar-Scott Ian (Anthrax)
Lead Guitar-Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad)
Bass-Greg Christian (Testament)
Drums-Chris Adler (Lamb of God)
Yes I know each of these musicians has various other projects, just didnt feel like listing them all. Also tried to have the members all from different bands.

If it was me I woulda had Devin on vocals and Ackerfeldt on lead. I love Opeth, but I don't think the dudes voice really fits the kind of voice a 'supergroup' vocalist should have.
Vocalist-wise I've just remembered whatsitsface from Glassjaw, too... man, I could create hundreds of supergroups, picking one guy for each part is HARD! :(
37. writes:
Yeah, picking a supergroup really just depends on what kinds of dynamics you want. So many people on their respective instruments would get looked over. Raymond Herrera usually gets looked over in the pantheon of great drummers. As far as vocalist go, Mike Patton would probably get looked over as well. You really could just go on and on.
