Man Assaulted For Singing Dio At Kareoke

Blabbermouth.net reports: According to The Smoking Gun, a 24-year-old Wisconsin man allegedly became so incensed by a lackluster karaoke performance of DIO's classic song "Holy Diver" that he assaulted the singer and a second man, police charge. According to a River Falls Police Department report, Kyle D. Drinkwine throttled singer James Mischler, 28, and his friend Cyrus Kozub, 29, on November 7 "over one's ability to sing karaoke." Though cops did not specify which song set Drinkwine off last week, Kozub told The Smoking Gun that Mischler was performing "Holy Diver". Following the assaults, police apprehended Drinkwine after a short foot chase. A subsequent Breathalyzer test recorded his blood alcohol content at .169, more than twice the state limit.

Kyle D. Drinkwine was charged last Thursday in Pierce County Court with a felony count of aggravated battery and a misdemeanor count of battery. He was released on a $3,000 signature bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing November 19. The charges have a combined maximum penalty of three years in prison.

Ozzy Osbourne Crowned "Living Legend"

Ozzy Osbourne, solo artist and lead vocalist of heavy metal band Black Sabbath, won the award in honor of his long career, which has spanned four decades.

Past recipients of the accolade include Alice Cooper, Lemmy and Jimmy Page. Guitar legend Slash, the former Guns N' Roses guitarist, presented the award. He also received the Marshall "11" award "for his services to balls-out guns-blazing rock n' roll". Earlier, Osbourne and Slash enjoyed afternoon tea together at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The rock and roll stars showed their softer side as they shared tea and cakes ahead of the big night.

Osbourne joked about his award saying: "I hope I don't die on the way home." Speaking about his nomination award before the ceremony, Osbourne said: "I couldn't be happier to know that Classic Rock haven't written me off! Seriously, it's a great honor and I'm looking forward to going to my first Classic Rock Awards. Can't wait to see you there."

Max Cavalera Discusses Sepultura Reunion

Max Cavalera was recently interviewed by UWeekly, where he talked about the possibility of a Sepultura reunion and how he'd like it to happen, his friendship with the Abbot brothers and more. Some excerpts from the interview are as follows:

UW: Now that you’ve reconciled with your brother Igor, do you see a Sepultura reunion happening in the future?

Well, it’s not impossible, you know? But it’s also something that we’re not spending too much time on now because there is really a long way to go to that. I’m just happy to make peace with Igor, really… and doing the Conspiracy album. Playing with Igor again is great. Maybe. Everybody knows we would like to have a reunion, and even to the person who said it would happen … to be fair to the hardcore fans, it would also be good to invite the other players, not just the classic lineup … some of the guys from the first period of the band, which was the first 10 years — it was more death metal, you know, Sepultura … it really was a death-metal band in the beginning — and have these guys come out and do some of the reunion. If it happens … if it happens, I would want to do it this way. It would be more … it would have more integrity than just the Sepultura that everybody knows. More...

Dimmu Borgir on Fuel TV, Talks About New Drummer

Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR took a break from the recent Blackest Of The Black tour to perform two songs at the Fuel TV studios in Los Angeles. Hosted by Pat Parnell and featuring guest appearances by Bam Margera and Brandon Novak, "The Daily Habit" episode featuring DIMMU BROGIR will air on Tuesday, November 25.

DIMMU BORGIR has been on tour in support of its recent "The Invaluable Darkness" (2DVD+CD), which debuted at no. 5 on the Nielsen SoundScan Top Music Videos chart in mid-October. This will be the band's last North American tour in support of its eighth studio album, "In Sorte Diaboli," which debuted on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart at no. 2, on The Billboard 200 at no. 43, and has sold over 66,000 copies in the U.S.

"The Daily Habit" is Fuel TV's first original daily series, telecast weeknights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern (6:00 p.m. Pacific) while re-airing later in the evening at 12:00 a.m Eastern (9:00 PM Pacific), and the following weekday at 2:30 p.m. Eastern (11:30 a.m. Pacific) and 5:30 p.m. Eastern (2:30 p.m. Pacific).

In related band news, Metal-Rules.com recently conducted an interview with guitarist Silenoz of DIMMU BORGIR. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Metal-Rules.com: Speaking of a follow-up to In Sorte Diaboli I have to ask you; will you once again utilize Hellhammer [MAYHEM] as a session drummer?

Silenoz: "I mean, we keep all doors open but right now we have such a good chemistry, both personally and musically, with [current touring drummer] Darek [Dariusz 'Daray' Brzozowski], who played with VADER. It would sure surprise me a lot if he's not playing on the new album. He's doing such a great job and he fits really, really well into the musical wide range style of DIMMU BORGIR. I would probably say that he will be the one that will play on the next album. It would surprise me a lot if he wouldn't."

Metal-Rules.com: You've always been very fortunate to have some of metal's most talented drummers at your disposal; how would you rank Darek against the others?

Silenoz: "I would say that he is the most steady and consistent drummer I've ever played with, no matter what. He's extremely reliable, hard-working, determined and he really, really pushes himself, you know? Even if he plays a really killer show and the rest of us have nothing to complain about, he still is not happy. It's not good enough. That's the attitude we need, you know? After all, the drummer is the engine in the band and you won't get anywhere if you only have oil and gas…you need the engine to work too…so… he's awesome."

Orphaned Land Guitarist Breaks Left Clavicle

Israel's Orphaned Land has posted the following update online:

"Orphaned Land guitarist Yossi Sassi-Sa'aron broke his left clavicle and is expected a healing period of at least six weeks, in which he probably won't be able to play the guitar at all. The accident happened during a peaceful sabbath in the park, while Sassi-Sa'aron was walking on his hands during a game, tripped and landed badly on his left shoulder. The specific fraction is the left clavicle near the acromion and as a result his left arm was fixed to his chest and he cannot move it and of course can't play musical instruments. Friends reported he's suffering from severe pain, yet he's constantly smiling as usual and he is laughing with his doctors. Sassi-Sa'aron composes and plays on various instruments in Orphaned Land, including bouzouki, oud, saz, electric and classic guitars."

Thy Will Be Done Begins Writing New Album

Thy Will Be Done vocalist J Costa has posted the following message online:

"Thy Will Be Done is currently writing, re-writing, tweaking, and rehearsing new material for the next album in our home base of Providence, RI. The as-yet-untitled forthcoming effort is tentatively expected to surface sometime in early 2009 and will be the follow-up to 2007's Was And Is To Come.

"As the year comes to an end, we've started to debut new material at recent shows to gauge some reactions and so far, the results have been positive. 2008 was spent not only touring but also writing and demoing new material; throughout the whole year. Make no mistake, this was in no way a result of any negative feelings towards our debut. We're very pleased and were quite overwhelmed with the warm reception Was And Is To Come received. It is merely a result of the drive of friends with a common goal and a shared passion to create music. More...

Lay Down Rotten Reveals New Album Details

German death metal band LAY DOWN ROTTEN has finished the pre-production for their upcoming new album. Here's an update from LAY DOWN ROTTEN guitar player Daniel Jakobi:

"Howdy! We just finished the pre-production for the successor of our Metal Blade debut 'Reconquering The Pit.' We are really happy about the result and actually can't wait for early December to come to enter the Desert Inn studios and record the new album. The working title for it is 'Katharsis...Or The Principle Of Death,' but this is subject to correction.

"The upcoming album will be quite a challenge for us. For the first time we will mix and master the album outside Germany. We have decided to go to Sweden and let Dan Swanö do the mix and mastering. Some of you might know Dan is my definite Death Metal hero so having him work on the album means a lot to me personally.

"Then we'll have a couple of guest appearances of top-class Death Metal singers on the album. I won't give you names yet, but we are talking about true Death Metal legends from the early days of our beloved music style and I am extremely excited having them on the next LAY DOWN ROTTEN record. We will reveal all those details in the near future so stay tuned and keep an eye on our online studio diary once we have started recordings.

"We will perform a new song called 'Hours Of Infinity' on the 'Darkness Over X-Mass tour' in December so come by, check us out and have a drink with us!" More...

Heavy Metal Bad For The Heart?

Along with everything else these days, too much heavy metal is now apparantly bad for the heart. Jason Gregory from Gigwise.com is reporting:

Listening to stressful or disturbing music can be bad for the heart, according to a new study.

An American investigation found that genres like heavy metal narrowed arteries and made people more anxious, where as “joyful” music improved blood flow.

John Denver-style country music was found to be the most uplifting. More...
