Gwen Stacy Singer Bobby Oakley Quits
Gwen Stacy has amicably parted ways with vocalist, Bobby Oakley. The group has issued the following statement:
"After a year of touring with Gwen Stacy, Bobby has decided to step down. He has decided that his heart is no longer with being in a touring band. He's off to finish his degree in graphic design and spend time with loved ones. We want to thank him for joining the band when we were in need of a guitar player and keeping the band alive by filling in on vocals when we were almost down and out. It is sad to see him go, but he's got great things in store. Bob, we love you.
"Now for the good news... We will not be missing any tour dates. We are happy to let you know that our friend Keith Jones, formerly of the Rise Records band Oceana, will be doing vocals for us on this tour. Ministry Mainman Discusses His Future Plans
Ministry mainman Al Jourgenson recently spoke with Artisan News about his role with 13th Planet Records, producing new albums, the end of Ministry and much more. A few excerpts from the chat is as follows:
"I mean yeah, it's torturous because look, that's the whole thing I hate about live and that's the whole thing I hate about being in a band because you spend all your time obsessing and focusing on one thing and it takes up two years of your life. Every release there's months of press, a year in the studio, six months or eight months of touring and the next thing you know you're still on Ministry and you have to do another one and it's two years later. God it's so boring."
Jourgensen also talked about settling into his role as producer for bands like Revolting Cocks and Prong, who both are under the umbrella of Al's 13th Planet Records.
"That's why I'm so over this. This is done! I have so many other projects. I can't wait until I start twirling buttons on a Prong record or twirling buttons on a Cocks record. I hate the fact that you made us come here and talk to you. I hate you for this because this is a waste of my time. I'd rather be in the studio working with people I know and love and doing really progressive stuff."
So what did Al hate most about touring? More...

Phil Anselmo Denies Drug Rumours, Talks Pantera
Phil Anselmo, former frontman of Pantera and Superjoint Ritual and current vocalist of Down and guitarist for Arson Anthem recently did an in depth interview with AntiQuiet, during which he spoke about his days in Pantera, feud with the Abbott brothers and the rumours that he is back on drugs. Some excerpts are as follows:
Antiquiet: I don’t mean to dredge up old bullshit, but I want to talk about something you’ve encountered firsthand. When you had that beef with Dime and Vin, us fans got the word through fuckin’ Metal Hammer and the music journalists, who of course tend to… you know, pull the juicy quotes out, to keep the circus going, to get attention, to sell magazines.
So let’s say things were different and the journalists minded other business, and you guys had space to work it out on your own. Do you think things might have turned out differently?
Phil Anselmo: Well… it’s kind of a moot point here. But if you’re talking in… imaginary terms, if you’re talking what ifs, theoretically, yeah. Rex and I actually talk about it a lot and we know… Pantera could have kept going.
The interview that sparked off everybody’s imagination… Little to everyone’s knowledge, the guy who asked me that- it was supposed to be off the record- he asked me straight out what would happen if [we] got into a fight- a physical thing. First of all, that never would have happened. Second of all, theoretically, once again- obviously, I would have the advantage over them. So I put it in a [certain] way, like a million motherfuckers do every day- boxers, et cetera- you know, they say they’re going to do terrible, horrible things to each other, and then after everything clears, they shake hands and hug each other and it’s done.
But if things are put as an absolute, and it’s just black and white, it’s just read and it’s taken that way, and it’s very unfortunate that it was. Because, as I’ve said before, Pantera was a mighty force man. More...

Poison Frontman Working On Autobiography
Poison frontman Bret Michaels recently spoke with the Las Vegas Sun regarding Poison, his reality show, "Rock Of Love" and other projects. A few excerpts from the interview are below:
Lasvegassun.com: How is Poison doing?
Michaels: "We get along better now than we ever did. At this point it’s just about enjoying it."
Lasvegassun.com: Has the group become a band that pays tribute to itself?
Michaels: "I’ve never looked at anything as a tribute or satire. We’re living in the moment. I’m probably the one in the band who drives everyone insane looking for new music, new material. I’m just a get-it-done guy. I don’t spend seven years trying to figure out how to put a chorus into a verse. I sit down at the piano and write something and produce it. I get it done."
Lasvegassun.com: Are you working on any other projects at the moment?
Michaels: "I’m writing a book. I’m about halfway through. Right now I’m just calling it The Bret Michaels Story.
Lasvegassun.com: Will it be a tell-all?
Michaels: "Not at all. If you were around me long enough you’d know I don’t throw people under the bus. This will just be an interesting book of my life. I’m not trying to make it a gossip column. You throw people in there - you know, the names of a bunch of girls — and they’ve moved on. They have families, children. I don’t want to throw them under the bus."

Children Of Bodom Bass Player Checks In
Children Of Bodom bassist Henkka T. Blacksmith has posted the following update online:
"Two weeks already behind. We started this leg in Finland. And of course, the first shows on tours are always the most difficult. So it was a shame it happened to be our home town. Technical problems (always happens with first shows) affected our sound and lights. But we tried our best to kick ass. Tampere was also bad for us cos most of the people were still outside when we started playing.
"But ever since things have gotten better, and in Oslo things were already really good. We've played for big crowds. It is sometimes really challenging to get people excited, first band, early night, big cold hall and so on. Choosing 7 songs for setlist is also very difficult thing. More...

Ryan Adams Gives Xasthur a Shout Out
Hydrahead Records had some commentary on recent reports of Ryan Adams giving Xasthur a shout out:
"We'd be full of shit if we were to suggest we were not taken aback by seeing a picture of Xasthur in the New York Times a few weeks ago...and then it only got weirder when we realized the pic of main member Malefic was due to the singer/songwriter Ryan Adams plugging Xasthur as one of his current playlist favorites. AND THEN it got even weirder when we saw that Mariah Carey AND Metallica AND Jay Z were plugged in the same breath. Guess you could say Mr Adams has a rather broad spectrum of tastes on his music listening pallette...had he plugged Jamiroquai, Mark would probably be writing the guy love letters right about now.
"We had heard a rumor that Adams had given Xasthur a shout out at an LA based performance a year or so ago, but we figured it had to be a myth. But then it dawned on us after reading this NYTimes piece that, perhaps, Mr. Adams was truly on board...the way he describes Xasthur still give us a tad bit of a chuckle, but you can't deny he really does seem to love it..."
Here's what Adams had to say about Xasthur that got all this started:
"Whoever the guy is, he's amazing. My listening tastes are absolutely not in tune with the kind of music I make. The music that interests me is a bit weirder. "Defective Epitaph" (Hydra Head) has really far-out guitars; it's not really lyrical. When I close my eyes and listen, I think of a heartbroken demon sitting beside these ashes in hell and really missing his girlfriend. It's like romantic death metal. The aggressiveness of his guitar riffs can be quite brutal. It's not for the faint of heart, but it's really clever. His flow is so authentically black metal; he knows how to make it orchestral and gothic. I don't know all the rules to metal, but he seems to kind of be above them. I think now he has a drummer — who's not technically bad, because it's speed metal, but the timing isn't exactly perfect. It comes off as charming, because you can tell what the ideas are, like indie rock. They're on top of their game."
