Godless Rising To Cover Slayer On New Album

Ex-ONWARD guitarist Toby Knapp has issued the following update:

"As I've posted before I've licensed my last solo album Misanthropy Divine to Germany's Rock It Up Records for Europe (this updated version with bonus tracks will be available here in the US as well) I signed the contracts and shipped off the masters well over a month ago. I of course started getting very nervous after several weeks passed and they still had not arrived to Germany - to the point of absolute nervous breakdown and calling the U.S.P.S. and doing all that tracking shit (last night) and it seemed the box was lost enroute; the master discs, contracts, etc. Moments before the 'meltdown' I checked my email and a very welcome letter happened to be waiting from the label president Franko "I GOT THE PACKAGE!!!" So, now we can proceed and I'm sure the results will be worth the wait, this really isn't official news, just my musings over a real stressful several weeks. I will keep everyone interested on the release date of the album and the 2009 tour dates. Oh yes, GODLESS RISING's Trumpet Of Triumph is 99% done - hope we did justice to SLAYER's 'Kill Again'! This album will be out on Moribund Records in early 2009."

Down To Release Documentary, Writing New Music

Down/former Pantera bassist Rex Brown recently spoke to Billboard.com about the reunion of the band, new material and more. Some excerpts from the article are as follows:

"(Down) is gonna keep rolling," Brown says. "We're not getting any younger, and this is what we're kicking ass at. All that other stuff people were doing kind of cleansed itself out. There's no reason to take time off anymore. This is a band we can grow old in together, which is really cool."

Brown says there's "a lot of material left over" from last year's "Down III: Over the Under," which was recently released in a deluxe edition through Best Buy for Down's current live run. The outtakes will be considered for the fourth Down album, but Brown adds that the quintet is also "writing constantly on the road. We still have all these ideas, and we play a lot of new stuff at sound check, just to feel it out. Hopefully we can get back in the studio in the fall and work on something."

Before a new album, however -- and perhaps as soon as the first quarter of 2009 -- Down plans to release a documentary of its 2006 reunion after a nearly four-year hiatus, including both live and behind-the-scenes footage. "It's kind of about us learning how to walk together again," Brown says of the film, which is not yet finished and is so far untitled. "It just chronicles the life on the road of us starting to play again. We're right in the middle of it now."

Urn Enters The Studio to Begin Work on New Album

Chicago-based gothic-metal band URN entered renowned studios of the Chicago Recording Company this past weekend, beginning work on their new upcoming full-length "Scribings of a Forgotten Soul", scheduled for an early 2009 release with Rotting Corpse Records.

The band once again has joined forces with the producer/engineering team of Dan Precision (Rise Against, Naked Raygun) and Connie Bergmann whom they also collaborated with on their successful and critically-acclaimed 2006 release "Dancing with the Demigods."

Singer/Guitarist Dominic St. Charles gave insight on the band's new album which will be a concept album based on a true story of several individuals that were in his life that were directly involved in a prison riot at state correctional facility in a nearby town from where he attended high school.

"Think of it as a 'Law & Order' approach to the story we are telling here. Of course, all of the characters are completely fictitious and do not represent any person living or dead. It was a major event that shook my community at the time and my best friend's father was the night shift supervisor. So a couple of months before it happened he took a group of me and my friends on tour of the prison at 2:30 a.m. (we thought it would be interesting to do). The experience of seeing all that was going on from the inside from many perspectives, the prisoners, the guards, etc., ended up being highly enlightening for me. So when the riot broke out it was hitting very close to home and I had been doing a good bit of writing at the time and decided to chronicle these events. So in essence, that is what this album is about a fictional depiction of this event."

URN also announced that their good friend Jape Peratalo, lead singer for To/Die/For, will be doing a guest vocal for this new album and the band is also in talks with a couple of their other musical friends to possibly lend the talents for guest appearances as well. More on these details will be released upon their confirmation.

In the meantime, check the band out on their MySpace page.
