Shadow Gallery Vocalist Passes Away

Progressive power metal band Shadow Gallery has announced the passing of their frontman, Michael A. Baker:

"It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Shadow Gallery vocalist, Michael A. Baker. Mike, 45 years old, suffered a heart attack, Wednesday afternoon, October 29th, 2008. Mike was a founding member of Shadow Gallery and for the past 16 years helped shape the sound of the band with his magical voice. Additionally, he made many appearances on rock records around the world. Those who knew him best were moved by his gentle spirit, sincere kindness, fun nature and passion for both music and sports. He was a warrior in the studio, a true professional. Mike was our friend, our singer and our brother. We loved him and will miss him enormously, but he will always be remembered in our hearts and through his music."

Black Tide Launches Animation Series

Black Tide has just launched their Warriors of Time Animation series. The six part series is explained best by the band themselves, "Our Hero, known as The Bastard, is a living embodiment of metal music. We pit him against a robotic legion whose influence spans all of time and space. The song speaks to the urge in everyone to rage and rock out against all outside expectations. It is a call to arms against a mundane existence, and the Bastard is always there to answer in force, slaughtering the robot conformist authority for the sake of youth, rebellion, and the undying spirit of true metal."

You can view the first video in this series below. More...

Recorded on March 8th of 2008 in Tokyo, "Tyrants Of The Rising Sun - Live In Japan" is not only live document of the band's current "Rise Of The Tyrant" touring cycle, but also marks ARCH ENEMY's first internationally available live-album (and second DVD after "Live Apocalypse"). Ihsahn Comments On Latest Album And Emperor Rumors

In a recent interview with Sevenstrings, Ishahn of Emperor fame commented on his latest album and rumors about whether Ross Robinson was slated to produce the fifth Emperor album. Excerpts from the interview are below.

SS: When I first started preparing for this interview it dawned on me that, for a guy who's only in his thirties, you've already achieved an amazing amount as a musician. How does it feel to know that you've recorded albums that have defined a genre and are now regarded as classics?

I: In general, I think I’ve been very lucky having had this as a career since I was 16 when we signed to Candlelight in 1991. Very lucky considering; I’m from Norway (which in itself does not spell out "potential international music-career") and I started my career by playing one of the most infamous and un-commercial forms of music to date. Things are different now, but 1991 was Death Metal era, and Black Metal was close to nothing. Getting back to your question; it is a double-edged sword, I guess. I am of course proud of previous albums and things I’ve achieved. However, with Emperor kind of living a life on it’s own, it is sometimes like being my own little-brother, with all my current work being compared to things I did as a teenager. At 32 I do not feel retired, I am just as passionate about my music as I ever was and I still believe my best is yet to come! More...

Kampfar Comments On Show Cancellation

Norwegian black metal band Kampfar has issued the following statement about their recent festival cancellation:

"In light of Kampfar's cancellation of the show at the Fireblade Force Festival in Liechtenstein, Germany on October 11, we feel the need to publish this explanation. This show was supposed to be the last show of our Tordenstorm tour. Unfortunately, our tour ended at the side of the road in the alps, only a few hours before we were supposed to hit the stage. Our tour bus was stopped by the Austrian police due to a mechanical problem. The bus was taken to a garage for inspection, and it was not possible to repair the problem at the time. By the time we realized that we could not continue, it was too late to find an alternative solution to take us the remaining distance. Hence, we had to make the difficult decision to call off our show at Fireblade Force. On behalf of Elite, our crew, the festival, and ourselves, we are very sorry that this was the outcome. We have come to an agreement with the organizers of the festival and will be working together in the future."
