Guns N' Roses Lawyer Blasts Dr Pepper
Billboard.com reports: The lawyer for Guns N' Roses and Axl Rose has castigated Dr Pepper, accusing the soda maker of failing to deliver on its promotion to offer free soda in celebration of the band's new album, "Chinese Democracy." Guns N' Roses was never involved in the campaign.
Beverly Hills-based Alan Gutman has written to Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. president and CEO Larry Young, accusing the company of operating an online redemption scheme that was an "unmitigated disaster which defrauded customers." Gutman is demanding that Dr Pepper makes good on its offer by extending the period for the offer; he also wants full-page apologies in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal.
Gutman's letter makes clear his view that the original campaign was an "exploitation of my clients' legendary reputation and their eagerly awaited album" and "brazenly violated our clients' rights." He is also seeking an "appropriate payment ... for the unauthorized use and abuse of their publicity and intellectual property rights," with the threat of further action if an acceptable offer is not made.

Rush Guitarist Alex Lifeson Discusses The Future
Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson recently did an interview with Toledoblade.com and spoke on a variety of issues, including what the band has planned next. Some excerpts from the chat can be viewed below.
Rush has a third greatest hits package (Retrospective 3) due early next year. After that release, its contract with longtime record label Mercury/Atlantic is up. And already there’s online fan speculation about what’s next for the Toronto band. Will Rush re-sign with Atlantic and return to the studio? Or will the band instead hit the road next year to celebrate its 35th anniversary? First things first, Lifeson said.
“Right now we just want rest,” Lifeson said. “We’ve been working really hard for the last seven or eight years on numerous records, tours, and DVDs; it’s been pretty constant through that whole period. We really feel like we need to step back and recharge our batteries and just not think about the band and what we’re going to do. You never know, Geddy and I might do some casual writing in the spring, but I’m guessing we probably won’t do anything until the fall of next year. At that time ... we’ll set out what we’re doing.
“There are a number of options open to us. I think the most likely is that we’ll record another record and tour off that. Working with [Snakes And Arrows producer] Nick Raskulinecz, he’s pushing us to think about doing another sort of concept record ... instead of just a thematically conceptual album like the most current records are. Whether we’re up for that kind of thing, I’m not so sure. We’ll have to wait and see.”

Megadeth Drummer Shawn Drover Posts Update
Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover has checked in with the following update:
"I arrived home mid-afternoon on Thanksgiving day, which was a smart move on my part. Anybody who travel's as much as I do pretty much knows that the day before Thanksgiving is one of the WORST day's to travel all year. I avoided all that insanity and still made it home on time for our family get-together. Oh ya, baby!!!!!!!!!
"This weekend brings our yearly trip to buy our Christmas tree - something that we all look forward to each year. My kids are grown now, but they still enjoy picking the 'correct' tree, and setting it up.............well, ok.......Jodi does that part. Look's like it's time to break out our TSO CD's, though I do have to go out and buy their most recent record..........Hold on, I have to e-mail Chris Caffery to ask him what it is called - I think it's called The Lost Christmas Eve, but I have to make sure. Speaking of which, I missed the TSO show here in Atlanta, which really pissed me off (I was in San Diego recording at Vic's Garage) - Though Chris is a good friend of mine, I have yet to see him with TSO in a live setting. Jodi did go with her Mom and sister, so they had a great time.
"As for Megadeth related stuff, we now have 4 1/2 songs completed in demo form (no vocal's yet, that happens later) to which I am quite happy with how the song's are shaping up. We fine-tuned them all pretty good so the actual recording should be quite easy when are ready. We are having a good time and all seem to be in a creative frame of mind, which makes me happy. Andy and myself will be back at Vic's within a week and get right back to getting the rest of the demos recorded."
