Guns N' Roses Lawyer Blasts Dr Pepper

Band Photo: Guns N Roses (?)
Billboard.com reports: The lawyer for Guns N' Roses and Axl Rose has castigated Dr Pepper, accusing the soda maker of failing to deliver on its promotion to offer free soda in celebration of the band's new album, "Chinese Democracy." Guns N' Roses was never involved in the campaign.
Beverly Hills-based Alan Gutman has written to Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. president and CEO Larry Young, accusing the company of operating an online redemption scheme that was an "unmitigated disaster which defrauded customers." Gutman is demanding that Dr Pepper makes good on its offer by extending the period for the offer; he also wants full-page apologies in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal.
Gutman's letter makes clear his view that the original campaign was an "exploitation of my clients' legendary reputation and their eagerly awaited album" and "brazenly violated our clients' rights." He is also seeking an "appropriate payment ... for the unauthorized use and abuse of their publicity and intellectual property rights," with the threat of further action if an acceptable offer is not made.

im mindboggled that this is actually happening. dr pepper was not ready for the raping they took at so many dumass peeps tryin to get a free soda. i mean its just a tid bit over 1 dollar, and then every1 is b****in at an internet screwup....AND THE BIGGEST WHINER OF ALL IS NOW LOOKIN TO SUE....hopefully the judge throws it out and axl gets smacked upside the head for this....fukin wanker!!!! and the fans?? how many fans are left? 10-20?? honestly, this band died back in the 90s!!! you all remember then, the 20th century!!!???....lol

13. writes:
HAve you nothing better to do than whinge because you dont like the album? Im guessing no... what , like Axl Rose give a flying f@#k what you think. Im sure he is really upset that you dont like his album...wiping away his tears with the cash that thousands of people did pay to get a copy.

The date that Dr. Pepper announced they were going to give everyone a free soda was March, 28th, 08. Now it is nearly 6 months later, and they made the best efforts they could (oh no, the net isn't perfect?!) and NOW they b****?! If it were my band, and had a problem with it would have said something 6 months ago!

20. writes:
What I dont understand is...pay 20 bucks for a cd, to get a free soda....why not just spend 1.59 for a 2-liter of that soda, save yourself the ear-porking that you would get from listening to the cd, and call it a night...
lol, to my understanding, the internet-coupon deal failed because they didnt provide enough servers to handle the amount of people redeeming their gunsnroses ticket for the soda. That means, that when they planned the deal, they expected a faaaaaarrr lower number of people would have bought the damn album. They essentially underestimated the number of people in the world who hate good music but love dr.pepper.

I am also going to add that I think Dr. Pepper did a far better job making good on a promise way better than GNR EVER have in their entire carrer! 14 years to make a mediocre album? PFFT!
lmao!
Guns and roses takes 14 years to come up with a long promised album with none of the members of his original band, with godonly knows how much money spent in hype, only for it to sound horrible, and Dr. Pepper makes a marketing error. Guess who gets sued?
And yes Kali, I is doin fine and dandy. :D Just downloaded the entire Behemoth and Pig Destroyer discographies, so you KNOW I'm happy for the next couple days. Someone would have to kick me point blank in the jibblies to bring my mood down right now.

*kicks F.A.N. in the jibblies to bring down his mood.* heh heh j/k :D
You b****! *in a high-pitched voice of course* Now I have to download the Deicide and Napalm Death discographies to cheer myself back up...lol
and yeah psythe, Pig Destroyer are the Golden f***ing Gods of Olympus right now for me, no wait actaully for the past few months, not just right now lol
And Behemoth is my go-to band for non-super complex but solid death metal. :p
Now Playing: behemoth- Christians to the Lions

What I dont understand is why you would wait for 14 years for an album anyway - its not like you sat there outside the f@ckin store waiting with your life on hold is it?. Its also not like Axl rose asked you to wait, or that he actually spent the entire 14 years making it. Id say he p!ssed about with it for a day a week at most, inbetween playstation, j3rking off, and crying about how the rest of the band dont want to play with him anymore (in more ways than one). Given that ratio of time to tjhe quality of album thats not too bad a result. While its not appetite for destruction, its also not 1987 anymore (for most of us). the guy is 46 now, not 25 - the music reflects this. the amount spent on the album is all heresay as well, there is no proof of this at all.
So to all the ones complaining cause it isnt up to their expectation and they feel like the last 14 years of their lives are ruined - quit p!ssing in the gene pool. Guns n roses hasnt existed since the band members all left 12 years ago. Its just a name - not a band. May as well call it the Axl rose experience, which isnt that bad so long as you dont compare it. Try listening to velvet revolver if you want the rest of the band.

Silly me.

i was reading somewhere else (though i cant remember where) that people are slamming Dr pepper for this whole things. Supposedly they feel that dr pepper first never thought the album was gonna come out and was doing all this just as a publicity stunt. It is kinda funny that the servers happend to be down the entire day and only about 45 mins people could get through and guess what?!?!? you have to wait 3-4 weeks for the coupon to show up. i never entered to get one but i highly doubt people will see them in their mailboxes

From what I understand it's Guns N Roses as a business that is sueing Dr. Pepper.
In other words not Axl Rose.
Maybe I'm wrong but it goes just like how Korn has a second Greatest Hits coming out and no hits since their last Greatest Hits hahaha...it's not Johnathan Davis who's doing that, its Korn, as a business

Can we put together a petition to make G N R put together a full page article apologizing for the release of Chinese Democracy as well as attempting to sue a company for launching a joke at their expense?
I vote to name the petition either turd sandwich or giant douche.

69. writes:
I think it would only work if we could get the petition signed on stationary that had both of the characters from that episode.
I think this proves that Axl has too much free time if he cares what Dr. Pepper did or did not do.
I think he is just in it for the free Dr. Pepper.
He probably bought 100K albums just to get the free Dr. Pepper and got p***ed because he only had one email address to register for the free coupon. Thats why they are filing the grievance now instead of 6 months ago.
This sounds like a great quote from Wayne's World. "I lost you two months ago, are you mental? Get the net."

^Actually, I have to call bullsh** on that one. I know branded enjoys Down, Slayer, and Testament. If Guns and Roses had anything to do with the succes of those bands, it was to drive people who hated that band so much to look for music that sounded nothing like Guns and Roses.
He's just bashing a band that fans of music like the metal he listens to are pretty much pre-packaged to hate simply on principle.

I disagree with you F.A.N. I'm not just talking about a band influence in its whole, I am also speaking individual wise as well. Branded bashes Metallica, when Metallica has set the most influential path down any rock-metal road you can think of. It stems out with the influences, James Hetfield's rhythm guitar has influenced Slayer, Kirk came from Exodus, who still uses much of the same style as Kirk uses these days, and he still influences countless upon countless of lead guitarists. Lars's drumming is nothing special though, it may or may not have influenced people, IDK mainly because I am a guitarist and don't give a sh** about drumming as long as the drummer can keep a beat o.O. There's no way that Branded only likes those 3 bands, GnR has influenced many different bands, this is also where the individual basis im coming off of is at. My view on Slash is the same as Kirk's, VERY INFLUENTIAL. To bash bands like GnR, and other bands such as Metallica, your also bashing the bands you like because of how they came to be with their influences. All I'm doing is showing my distaste for Branded because he bashed one of the most influential bands in music, Metallica, and won't stop everytime Metallica gets in the news.

81. writes:
Jake you are very right when it comes to metal in general. But GNR didn't do a whole lot for the music community in general. And even then Slash hasn't brought anything new to the guitar table either (I guess we'll tell when his solo releases hit shelves, but regardless).

jake, u r correct that i bash metallica...and i will do so forever. i was a metalli-sheep back in the 90s. a blind one at that. buying everything they put out just because it was metallica. then as they began their 180 shift from being metal heros to metal d***s., lars moslty, i began to hate them. it seemed that lars and co had become the biggest egotistical turds on the planet. i didnt bash them when they changed their hair, clothes, etc. i said to those that were that all bands change something up. then when jason left i thought good for him. the band had to get a freakin shrink to help with their "emo" feelings. COME ON, WHEN A BAND NEEDS A SHRINK TO HELP THEM OUT, THAT BAND HAS COME TO THE END OF THEIR PRODUCTIVE CAREERS. ive never said metallica was not a major influence on bands today, as the band im a roadie for are huge metalli-sheep. i just bash them because i am so sick of hearing how metallica are the best and noone touches them. I WILL FOREVER SAY THERE ARE BETTER BANDS OUT THERE.
yes metallica are thrash pioneers, not denying that. but overall, there are other bands that came out around the same time that recieved lackluster recognition and influenced just the same amount of bands out there today. metallica are not the only damn band that influenced bands. so when you can pull your head out of metallicas balls, maybe you can see that too!!!
and to comment on your comment about how i bash them everytime metallica news comes out that is not true. i said in one post that i will take james's side when the people trashed out his property. i mean im sure he didnt clean it up, but had to pay to have it cleaned up. i usually bash them whenever they talk some stupid sh1t about themselves and how they are so good. lars is just like gene simmons, loves to hear hinself talk. so i love to bash lars, just as millions of others do. im not the only one, but you seem to have a huge hard on for me because you have singled me out, when others have done the same thing as i have done here.

well Kali...the thing is that Branded bashes the bands that were essential to the success his favorite bands like now. that is why he and everyone else on this site, except for certain people, are stupid as sh**.
ok, every1, jake has called you all stupid as sh1t. let the bashing begin.....

Lars is a douche..........that's it. Oh yeah, the new g-n-r probably blows. I have been reading alot of positive reviews for it, but I think alot of it is just hype. My all time fave from g-n-r is a wierd one, but it's "Coma". There is just something about that song that gets me.

This is just amazing, Branded, I have a question for you.
have you read the article about how Metallica, if they make more albums, will post the next on the internet for download? they realized they have sold out a long time ago, finally got rid of that fa**ot producer and realized what to do. They are still an amazing band, I have never said Metallica is the only band to influence, in that long comment I posted I already contradicted your rebuttal by saying Slash has been a huge influence. I'm just merely saying that Metallica is one of the biggest influences to these type of bands these days. Don't scramble my words around to make me sound like a dumbest just because you don't understand what I'm saying. To be honest, I don't give a sh** what you think about my opinions, I just love stirring up sh** on this website =D
102. writes:
um jake, in what post did i ""twist your words around""?. also, you said that every1, minus certain people, were dumb as sh1t. however, you failed to say who those certain people were. so at this moment, every1, in your opinion, is stupid as sh1t.
as for suck-tallicas next cd, i dont give a fuk how they sell it. honestly dont. and i understand what you said about metallica being a huge influence on bands that i like now. but guess what, METALLICA STILL SUX GOAT BALL$!!!!!!
SINCE YOU DONT GIVE A SH1T ABOUT MY OPINIONS, YOU ARE ON MY CASE QUITE A BIT ABOUT THEM. THEN YOU TURN AROUND AND SAY YOU LOVE TO START SH1T HERE. SH1T TALKIN ME FOR DOIN WHAT YOU ARE DOIN. WHAT A DUMA$$ YOU JUST SHOWED YOURSELF TO BE.....and what does dumbest mean in the sentence you typed out. im having trouble understanding that. how did i make you sound like a dumbest?? is that a new word for dumb people...."im a dumbest"!!!

Blind: I guess you didn't read my post on another thread. How wrong I was to doubt the mighty Slayer. Will doth forgive a doubting fool? The new Down has such an immense groove that just can't be ignored. Working on the new Testament...so far so good. Nothing on CC just yet. When I get some time...and cd's, I will send you some Acid Bath, a great band that died before their time. Also, if you like a little industrial metal, check out Hanzel und Gretyl. Thanx again man!

Anyways... Branded has a point although he stated it in a round about way.
Metallica WERE good. Not any more. And that is why they are bashed. So what if they influenced bands, thats not the point at all. I bet none of their newer CD's are widely claimed as influence.
So ZT why don't you 'fall' repeatedly on one of those dildo chairs. Endorsed by George Clooney.
