Devian Announces New Album Title

After their much-lauded debut album “Ninewinged Serpent” in 2007 and a comprehensive European tour with Polish death metal overlords Vader, Sweden’s blackened death/thrash commando DEVIAN, who feature former Marduk members Legion (vocals) and Emil Dragutinovic (drums) in their ranks, return with a second album, "God To The Illfated." "God To The Illfated" will be released in Europe on the following dates:

GERMANY / AUSTRIA / SWITZERLAND / BENELUX: December 12, 2008.
DENMARK / NORWAY: December 15, 2008.
SPAIN / PORTUGAL: December 16, 2008.
SWEDEN / FINLAND: December 17, 2008.
FRANCE: January 05, 2009.
ITALY: January 16, 2009.
UK / GREECE / REST OF EUROPE: January 19, 2009.

Recorded once again at Art Decay Studio with Rickard Kottelin, DEVIAN this time around decided to hook up with Hypocrisy / Pain mastermind Peter Tägtgren for further production duties and the intense mixdown of the album at The Abyss Studio (Immortal, Marduk, Dimmu Borgir, etc.), while mastering was once again taken care of by Peter In De Betou / Tailor Maid Production (Dimmu Borgir, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, etc.).

Frontman Legion comments on the creation of DEVIAN’s sophomore album:

"'God To The Illfated' is the result of DEVIAN fusing together as its own powerhouse. Having the luxury of making music together with one's best friends made the new songs step up to a whole different league throughout the writing sessions: we all bled everything into the album, everything that we knew was DEVIAN and explored as much new ground as we could. The extensive touring we did last spring showed us what really works for us....jacked up and confident from slaughter on the road we let all the fire from the live-shows translate onto the songs and the recording-sessions 'til we all felt that unbeatable feeling of grand accomplishment. The feeling that we had a really special beast of an album on our hands."

DEVIAN has additionally also being confirmed to appear on the "Winterfest" 2009 tour in January with Deicide, Samael, Vader and label mates Zonaria. See below for all upcoming Devian tour dates: More...

Fair To Midland Working On New Material

Fair To Midland is working on new material. They've issued the following update on it:

"The writing process is well underway for the as-yet-unnamed followup to 'Fables.' This is particularly exciting for us because it will be our first album of all-new material since we released 'inter.funda.stifle' 4 years ago. We are more focused than I can remember being in quite some time, and working more like we did back when we were writing for inter.funda, feeling like there's no direction we can't take. "If it feels right and sounds cool, do it" seems to be the motto of the moment.

"The sound so far seems to be going in a little bit darker and more cynical direction, probably a result of 2 years of roughing it on the road, but it's not without some cool tongue-in-cheek moments as well.

"We're looking forward to letting everybody hear some stuff, but until then here's some great photos by Isaac Flores to at least give you guys a peek at what we're up to."

Enslaved Films "The Watcher" Video

Norwegian metallers Enslaved recently shot a music video for the song, "The Watcher" in Sweden with the Grammy Award winning director Patric Ullaeus. The band has posted the following report about Ullaeus and the video itself:

“When we got the chance to work with Patric and Revolver, we grasped it with all ten hands. His works are very impressive. We were first exposed to him through Dimmu’s latest video - the whole thing was very professional and remained ‘tasty’ within the fantasy framework. Our previous videos have been do-it-yourself and we have never worked with special effects on such a high level before. The video is built upon a dual development: the band performing the song in parallel with a story line. The story is based upon [lead singer/bassist] Grutle’s lyrics for ‘The Watcher’ and the story is written out in a co-operation between Grutle and [guitarist/songwriter] Ivar [Bjørnson] from the band, and director Patric Ullaeus. Without spoiling the surprise, the video story follows the lines of the lyrics – the individual’s struggle for truth and liberation, about revealing the real chains of existence and breaking them.”

Vader To Record New Album In March

Peter Wiwczarek, frontman of Polish death metal legends Vader has posted the following update online:

"Long time since I had a chance to talk to you.... You know but the reasons. You know how much has changed in the band, so I'm sure you understand the situation... What I can promise you all is, that since the big change on www.vader.pl - which is soon gonna happen - I will regular drop some news from Vader Commando. We're gonna also add way more short video reports or clips - which are so much popular format today. You should be enough satisfied.

"What's new in Vader? You know for sure about all the personal changes in lineup. We just finished two-weeks tour in Baltic States and Scandinavia with GRAVE, ZONARIA and ZABBADIAH CROWS, which was "baptism in fire" for new Vader, which is now: Wacek "Vogg" - guitar; Reyash -b.g ; Paul - drums and me (vocals/guitar). Since the first shows in Lithuania and Latvia the new members show how passion and feeling are important to perform metal on stage! Personally it was like pumping fresh blood into my veins... I was feeling like we were on Vader's first tour. With the same lineup we'll hit again in January with DEICIDE, SAMAEL and DEVIAN. To play with the friends form yet early 90's must be something unholy!!!! IT WILL BE SPECIALL!!!!

"We open new chapter in Vader's history in December: Necropolis!!! In Hertz Studios we're gonna record 4 - 5 song demo for the upcoming new full length. This is nothing but checking out new sounds and different way of work in studio. It's not gonna be official, thou' we'll put a song on our site for you to listen to. The ultimate recordings are booked for March 2009 and Necropolis will be produced by Tue Madsen (who previously worked with such bands as MOONSPELL, HATESPHERE, THE HAUNTED, GOREFEST, HEAVEN SHALL BURN and many more) in Anfarm Studio in Denmark. The title of the album-which is the very first Vader's song ever - is chosen not by chance. It will be connected with recordings like De Profundis or Litany with themes of Forgotten Worlds, Mythos or Ancient Powers still living in humans sub consciousness.

"Just mentioned few titles: 'Devour', 'Dark Heart' or 'Forgotten' (all written by Harry Maat). Pawel Frelik - the Voice of Truth in the band - is also gonna put some lines on the album... We'd like to change Necropolis designs as well making the "overall view" in old style of metal. Of course - I'll keep informing you about the progress. As I promised...."

Wardruna Signs To Indie Recordings

Indie Recordings recently announced the signing of Wardruna for the release of their debut album, "Runaljod - Gap Var Ginnunga," which is due out on January 19, 2009.

The idea of Wardruna began to take shape in 2002 as a project where founder and main man Einar Kvitrafn Selvik (Jotunspor, Gorgoroth, Sahg etc.) could work with a musical expression and instrumentation very different from what his involvements in various metal bands would allow. Naturally, it also became a place where his passion for and practice of Norse paganism and runes could be combined with music.

In the spring of 2007 the project started to attract attention after it was featured on the soundtrack of the much publicized "True Norwegian Black Metal" documentary about Gaahl (Trelldom, Gorgoroth etc.) by Peter Beste and Vice Films. Despite no releases or live appearances, Wardruna has since then gathered a respectable and perhaps surprisingly diverse following.

Now, after nearly six years in the making, the long awaited debut album of Wardruna is finally finished. It is the first album in the planned "Runaljod" trilogy, which will musically interpret the runes of the elder futhark. This highly visual music is hard to place into any specific genre. The style can perhaps be described as a curious blend of folk, world and ambient music, but without being limited by the sometimes restricted scope of these genres.

"Runaljod - gap var Ginnunga" has a very profound and unique sound that consist of a wide array of instruments, some of which are seldom used nowadays. A few examples include deer hide frame drums, mouth harp, goat horns, lur, Hardanger fiddle and tagelharpe ("Viking fiddle"). Sounds of more unorthodox "instruments" like trees, stones and fire are also incorporated into the music, and it's all topped off with powerful vocal performances from no less than three vocalists.

The album was produced and engineered by Kvitrafn himself in his own, aptly named, Fimbulljóð studio. Many of the recording sessions were executed outdoors at carefully selected locations with instruments or natural sounds that are relevant to the different runes.

The band's new label, Indie Recordings, comments: "Working with Wardruna has proven to be extremely rewarding, and their friendly and professional attitude is an example for others to follow. It is an honour for Indie Recording to have this special act on our roster, bringing depth and meaning to our catalogue by putting in context the very origin of Black Metal."

In a press statement the band comments the signing and the upcoming album:

"This is an ideal partnership for Wardruna; not only will the music be distributed and promoted in the manner it deserves, we also get to work with the fine people at Indie Recordings here in ....Norway..... They have proven themselves to be very professional and dedicated to their work and I am very pleased to be able to work with them and totally confident that this is the right label for Wardruna."

You can check out some of Wardruna's material on their MySpace page.
