Anette Olzon Says She Walked Off Stage Due To Vocal Problems

ANETTE OLZON sent a press release to Brazilian media where she clarified the reasons behind her sudden "collapse," which caused her to leave the stage in the middle of the NIGHTWISH show in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on November 10th 2008.

OLZON stated that the smoke on stage got on her vocal chords to make her lose her voice. She was trying to sing until she reached the point she couldn't do it anymore and therefore was "forced" to leave the stage.

NIGHTWISH has always had a very good and close relation to their fans in Brazil and the thought of disappointing the fans was too great for Anette. The band tried to buy some time for Anette to regain her voice back but it didn't. NIGHTWISH ended up playing two more songs after Anette left the stage but were forced to stop the show after that.

After the show, people stayed in the venue to get some kind of explanation to what happened. After a while, promoter Eric de Haas from Dynamo Productions came on stage to tell the fans that the concert was over and Nightwish was already back on their hotel.

It is reported that the next show NIGHTWISH did the next day in the capital of Brazil (BRASILIA) went well and the band the song THE POET AND THE PENDULUM on their setlist.

Soon afterward, Olzen had an interview with MTV Brazil, which you can watch below.

The keyboardist said that the crowd was shouting Tarja's name and giving Annette the middle finger.

F^#( people who are nastey to NightWish now for not having Tarja. Shes got her own tour going. Go see that if you want her. Anette shouldn't bend her notes so much, it sounds stupid and pop. She also shouldn't be saying so many negative things about touring, either. If I were her, I'd be giving the middle finger right back to fans. I bet the bastards would f$@kin LOVE IT!!

I like both singers, Annette is a nice new voice in nightwish and Traja has the classic opera voice, i think they should keep both and let them sing together, that would rok so hard =P. I feel so sorry for Annette that ppl would give her the finger =(.

Rock on Nightwish!!!!!

While I respect them as musicians alot of people pay money and travel for shows like these. I can understand getting angry. Not to wish violence on anyone.
They might want to think about ditching the smoke if it interferes with the performance. A performer needs to be made of sterner stuff. People have no sense of humor about wasted money. Good band or not.
And Im sure she'll be fine, a few birds never hurt anyone. If she doesnt bail on shows anymore maybe they will come to appreciate the new voice.

I couldnt care less who sings at the show, Anette or Tarja. I just think they have a responsibility to put on a good show. If some part of it interferes with the singers ability to perform, they need to re-think it. And like I said, no matter what people say or how many birds they flip, Im sure she will be fine. Lets relax.

There are clearly differences between Tarja and Annette... NightWish could definitively NOT choose a "copycat" of Tarja (an another Lyric-singer) but had to find something else.

When a band change the lead singer, it's always difficult. Changes are a call for comparison to be made... Here, people can't really say that Annette sings better or worse than Tarja because she sings different... It's like comparing Carmen (the opera) and Bill Haley (Rock'N'Roll)... You may like (or dislike) both but there are no comparison possible because they are just different...

Now, NightWish has always been able to make great music AND to make it sound well with their singer (Tarja) voice. When Annette cames, many songs of the new album were already written (with the kind of singer already taken in account, but not the "exact" voice)... I think the next album won't have that problem anymore, the songs will be written for Annette and Annette's voice... Which means both that they will be easier to sing for Annette and sound better...

But, meanwhile, they feel like they HAVE to prove something to the fan... that they are still alive, even more alive than before... What should have been a "warm up" tour for Annette became a big show which put her under huge pressure... Well, I think that she proved that she has the nerves to be with Nightwish (her problems, were health related). Her voice is her tool, she needs to take care of it... And going to tour very soon after having a flu is clearly NOT a good idea... but well, the agenda was there, she didn't have much a choice...

I'm very confident about her potential... The guys knew that they could NOT afford to choose the wrong singer and I'm pretty sure they thought much about what they wanted to do and choose wisely... They know Annette much better than us (the fans) and if she was not the right one, I'm pretty sure she would not have joined NightWish.

Tarja's Era is over. The only one which is clearly NOT guilty for that end is Annette. She is doing her best to be accepted... probably more than most people are willing to do... Let's give a chance to her... And if you like Tarja, you may also go and see her concerts... It's not Tarja vs Annette or Tarja vs Nightwish... It's about listening and enjoying good music !!!
