Pit Stories: Black Fuzz Blood

Ready for another Pit Story ya crazy fuckin' metal heads? This week vocalist Robert Kreed from Canadian horror metal band Bleed discusses the group's namesake, and the many problems along the way to finding the perfect blood:

Robert Kreed: Hey fella! You wanna you how my blood came to be?

Gibbering bystander: ...no...

Robert Kreed: Well fuck you! I'm gonna tell you anyways...

It all started way back when I was getting all my props ready for a big show we were gonna play. Organs, heads, limbs, Jager spewing babies, all good to go. Oh yeah, my store bought blood. Better go grab that from my basement. When I grabbed the bottle it shifted oddly. Like there was something preventing it from splashing inside the bottle. I pop the cap and holy crap! The whole thing was moldy! What the hell? I go grab another jug of blood. Same thing. Gad damn! I go thru all my jugs of blood. Every one of them slimy with bacteria or caked in black fuzz. Show must go on. I sift out as much of the gross shit as possible, collect it in a bottle and off to the venue. I dowse myself, we do our thing, I go home and shower.

To hell with cheap store blood. I'm making my own. For whatever reason, probably being lazy, I'm in a pinch for blood again for another show. I whip up the stupid corn syrup recipe. Absolute shit show. Costumes are sticking to me. Set lists being dragged all over the stage by sticky boots. I do a drinking blood from a horn gag and all that comes out is the thickest sludge of pure pancreas killing sugar muck. Dolloped on my face and chest. Looked cool but I think my teeth shattered from the sweetness. This has got to end. I must find my own blood.

Doing some research on a variety of recipes, I finally found my own mix. Easy to make. NOT STICKY! Has some flavour but not over powering and smells absolutely wonderful. I use maple flavouring and it just wafts around me the entire time I am covered. People have said I smell like breakfast. Pancakes and bacon. Damn rights son! Metal is in our blood and our blood smells like maple syrup! The epitome of Canadian Metal! There was the one time I tried peppermint flavouring for a show. My body felt like it was constantly on fire and I wept the entire set. Ron said I smelt like Christmas but that's another story, christing fuck. So? What do you have to say about that, fella?

Gibbering bystander: ....leave me alone...

Bleed - a 2015 Wacken Metal Canada finalist - has a new album titled "The Hatred Inside" due out on September 29, following a self-titled EP from last year. See what the band does best in the live setting through the clips below. More...

Threat Signal Parts Ways With Drummer

Threat Signal has checked in with the following statement about parting ways with drummer Joey Muha:

"Some may have heard these rumors already, but now its time to clear the air. A few months ago we parted ways with our drummer Joey Muha.

"There were ongoing issues between him and another band member, so the situation needed to be resolved before the band could continue. We unfortunately came to the conclusion Joey had to be let go. We wish him the best, and hold no hard feelings.

"On a positive note, our great friend Andrew Minarik filled in for the recording of our newest album, which is currently being mixed by Mark Lewis of Audiohammer studios. Andrew will not be a full time member due to other commitments, but has been kind enough to lend us his hands and legs for the recording and promotion of the album. With that said, we will be looking for a new touring drummer which could potentially turn into a full time position.

"Andrew will be filming this Friday for a new Threat Signal video. He has put together a cool giveaway contest, a live stream link for the music video, and will be doing some Q&A. Check out the video below for more info on that!" More...

The Sea Charmer Calls It Quits

Petr Pádivý from The Sea Charmer has issued the following announcement about the band officially calling it a day:

"After a long period of stagnation we have decided to quit. It hasn't been an easy decision but when you reach a point where none of the band feels the pulse to carry on, there's nothing else to do.

"I personally will complete the mission called 'Farewell to the Gods of Flesh' alone because I really won't leave these tracks unheard.

"I can't tell you when it's done or if you're gonna like the songs. And you know, it doesn't matter at all. It's just my duty, I can't fully give up the work I brought to life with so much love and passion." More...

Onirik Releasing "Casket Dream Veneration"

One of the forerunners of the currently thriving Portuguese black metal scene, Onirik will release fourth album, "Casket Dream Veneration," on October 23 as a split release between Altare Productions and Iron Bonehead Productions.

Onirik's first recordings in six years, "Casket Dream Veneration" represents a rebirth for mainman Gonius Rex. Long gone are the days of unapologetically raw production, sloppy performance, and mostly improvised songwriting. Instead, the characteristically wandering textures are thoroughly composed, dotted with detail and simmering, subtle nuance; joined by Soul Reaper on drums and The Heretic on bass, Gonius Rex leads a confident, compact performance, each player possessed and attuned to vibrations from beyond. The new album's track listing is as follow:

1. Requiem For a Profane Liberation
2. Invocation and Defiance
3. Reverent to the Flames
4. Casket Dream Veneration
5. Ascension and Descent
6. I am Him but He's not Me

Ritual Signs With Bullet Tooth

Bullet Tooth is excited to announce the worldwide signing of Ritual from Hamilton, Ontario (not to be confused with a host of other bands of the same name across the U.S. and Europe).

Ritual is the brainchild of former Dead and Divine vocalist Matt Ryan Tobin. After the untimely demise of Dead and Divine's decade long career, Tobin found himself far from finished. With little to no time spent mourning, he threw himself head first into a new musical endeavour with the aid of four musicians who found themselves feeling all too similar.

The band will release a self-titled debut album via Bullet Tooth (Worldwide), Distort Inc / Fontana North (Canada) and Halfcut / Shock (Australia / New Zealand) in the fall of 2015.

Ritual is a band without guidelines or limitations, chalked full of raw and untainted passion; this was the band Tobin always set out to create, with him stating: “We were born from waste. We are the product of broken bands, miles traveled and mistakes made. We are Ritual.” More...

Abigail Williams Reveals Full Album Details

American black metal legion Abigail Williams will release a first new full-length in three years via Candlelight Records this October 30, 2015.

Titled "The Accuser" and now featuring the punishing lineup of founding vocalist/guitarist Ken Sorceron (ex-Lord Mantis), guitarist Jeff Wilson (Wolvhammer, Chrome Waves, Doomsday, La Chant Funebre), and drummer Charlie Fell (Cobalt, ex-Lord Mantis, ex-Avichi) with recording bassist Will Lindsay (Indian, Lord Mantis, Anatomy Of Habit), the diseased offering was recorded, mixed and mastered in just five days by Sorceron at the band's home studio in Olympia, Washington, boasts a guest appearance by Neill Jameson (Krieg, Twilight) and includes the tripnotic cover renderings of Portland-based illustrator/tattoo artist, Stevie Floyd (Dark Castle, Taurus).

"It took three years to make this because I'm an indecisive bastard and I didn't want to make the same record again," confides Sorceron of the lengthy gap between full-lengths. "It felt unnatural to try and reproduce what I did on [2012's] 'Becoming,'" he continues, "which, up to that point I felt was our strongest album. So once again we are covering new ground with this release. The songs are the most personal to date with the themes mostly being about living shitty, addictions, sex, loss and failure all through the eyes of a nihilistic occultist shithead."

The track listing is as follows:

1. Path Of Broken Glass
2. The Cold Lines
3. Of The Outer Darkness
4. Will, Wish And Desire
5. Godhead
6. Forever Kingdom Of Dirt
7. Lost Communion

Underoath Reforms For The "Rebirth" Tour

After disbanding and playing a "final farewell" tour in 2013, Underoath is unsurprisingly back together and performing live again.

After recently confirming two reunion shows at the 2016 Self Help Festival and South By So What, the band now announces a full 2016 North American tour. Dubbed the Rebirth Tour, the band will be playing the "They’re Only Chasing Safety" and "Define The Great Line" albums in their entirety.

“I think the thought of Underoath playing again seemed really exciting,” explains Tim McTague of the band’s reunion. “We never thought we’d ever even want to play together again, much less be as excited to do so. It was a really cool feeling, and when discussing what this tour could be, it just felt right to play the two albums that our fans have held dearly for so many years. I think it’s going to be really special.”

“I hated the idea of Underoath being ‘over’ and I’m not sure what we are, but we are all friends again and that’s really the most important thing,” said Spencer Chamberlain. “That being said, we felt like now is a great time to do a tour and celebrate Define The Great Line turning ten.”

Pre-sale tickets are available now via this location. Dates for the "Rebirth" tour are as follows: More...

Graveslave Streaming New EP

Graveslave was founded in February 2014 between longtime collaborators Roman Johnson (guitar) and Ben Fagerness (drums). Josh Burke promptly filled the bass slot, and, after several rocky line-ups, the group was joined by MN metal scene guitar veteran Ian Frand and vocalist/manager Mike Bloodfist, who set the band on a demanding show schedule for maximum exposure.

After several DIY demos, Graveslave entered the studio to track the first real EP, “Corpseborne.” There are no programmed drums, quantized guitars, or pitch corrections. Its real music, and the integrity can be heard in every blast and squeal.

The band recorded at Signaturetone studios with production mastermind Adam Tucker to create a truly nauseating sound. It was during this recording period that Mike Bloodfist amicably stepped down as vocalist to focus on other projects. The position was filled by Twin Cities death-growl extrordinaire Don Durkee (Oklahoma Caddy Shack, ex - Down Infierno), who stepped in just in time to help finish the record. More...

Napalm Festival Cancelled, Replaced By Charity Gig

After 9 out of 11 bands for the Napalm Festival pulled out of the gig due to offensive comments by the promoter, the fest has now been replaced by a new show in Manchester (full event details here) with all profits going towards the Sophie Lancaster Foundation. Old Corpse Road was the latest band to pull out of the Napalm Fest, with the band commenting:

"We regret to announce, in light of today's events, that we are cancelling our appearance at Napalm Festival on 12th September, for obvious reasons. Whilst we discussed all options for rescuing the gig, and did not take the decision lightly, ultimately playing the gig has become unfeasible. We apologize to all the people who were looking forward to the gig, which was shaping up to be a superb day and we will look to return to Manchester as soon as we can."

The issue in question can be seen in a partial screen capture (the original post has since been taken down), while an apology later issued by Napalm Promotions is available after the jump. More...

Tsjuder Streaming "Djevelens Masterverk"

Cult Norwegian trio Tsjuder is streaming another song from upcoming album "Antiliv" - check out "Djevelens Mesterverk" below. Regarding the new track, the band comments:

"This song delivers aggressive black metal with some thrash influences. The title in Norwegian means 'The Devil’s Masterpiece.'

"The lyrics describe a first person 'me' (or the reader) as a reflection of the Devil - or some devil, infecting the world with chaos, destruction, negativity, etc., which has been the foundation and purpose of 'my' life. 'Djevelens Mesterverk' was the first track that we composed for the 'Antiliv' album (excluding 'Ved Ferdens Ende,' which appeared as a demo back in 1995)." More...

"It's with heavy hearts we announce that our next two shows will be our last with Jesse playing drums. Making this Saturday his last home town show for us. Jesse is looking at moving interstate to pursue a new career and has made the hard decision to leave the band.

"Jesse is an amazing drummer who has contributed so much to the band, including helping write and record our album 'In Ruins' as well as share the stage with some of the worlds best bands.
The three of us want to thank Jesse for everything he has contributed and wish him the best of luck in the future.

"As for the rest of us, we are looking to take this time to do some serious writing and have a new release on the horizon.

"So if you didn't already have enough reasons to come to this sweet show, come down and show Jesse off in style!" More...

Phil Giordana Posts Update On New Fairyland Album

Fairyland keyboardist/composer Phil Giordana posted a progress report on the upcoming new release. The band last issued an album in 2009 via Napalm Records with "Score to a New Beginning." Since then, Giordana has been battling medical issues over the years.

In a progress report posted on Giordana's Facebook page, he updated on the progress of the new album as well as announced that "project" will go back to being a full band again. The post reads:

"Well, here's a bit of news.

"First, the one that sucks: Napalm Records won't be releasing Fairyland's next album. So we're looking for a new label.

"Second: notice that I've said 'we.' After careful thinking and talks, I've decided to turn Fairyland back into a genuine band, as opposed to a solo project. I think I've made my point with Score to a New Beginning (for those who didn't follow, it was to prove that I could continue in the band's spirit without the ex members). There are quite a few advantages to going back to a steady formation, one of which is the non-negligible opportunity to play live more often.

"As of now, the line up is comprised of Willdric Lievin (Hamka) on the bass, JB Pol (Kerion, Hamka) on the drums and myself on keyboards. I'm waiting for confirmation from those who will hold the positions of singer and solo guitarist. In the next few weeks, I will start looking for a serious and available rhythmic guitarist. Once all that is done, I'll announce the final formation.

"As for the in-depth work to come: I have to get major surgery before the end of this year, so it will be a little demanding to try and manage everything at once. But mostly, it will be recording the album (we expect to start studio work in about two weeks), preparing a promo video, confirming the final line up, and looking for a new label.

"Francesco Cavalieri (Wind Rose) will be holding the lead vocals on this new album, Willdric will handle the bass, JB kick the drums, I'll stay on the keys, and Quentin Godet will shred the guitar solos. We'll see about the rhythmic guitars when we're there. Willdric and I will handle the choirs, as well as Francesco for additional parts.

"All in all, I am extremely excited about this new start and can't wait to share our work with the fans." More...
