Ready for some more mosh pit mayhem metal heads? Tuesday's rolled around again, so let's dive right in!
A few months back Fin'amor provided us a Pit Story about a fight managing to break out during every single song of a set, and today Fin'amor returns for another tale from the pit. This time vocalist Benjamin Meyerson shares a story of a student learning the ways of the mosh:
It was my first day of teaching seniors in high school, and within 5 minutes a student walked up to me and asked “Are you in a band?” I lifted my finger to my mouth and whispered “tell no one.” It was nice to be asked, but the last thing a teacher wants is for students to know we have lives outside of the class.
After the semester ended I celebrated with a Meshuggah show. The venue was wall to wall packed, and through the crowd comes the same student, who had just graduated high school. He was with his friends enjoying the show, when out of nowhere a massive pit breaks out. He turns to me and asks me very politely, “Mr. M, Can you teach me to pit?” I gave him a five minute lesson on pit etiquette and unspoken metal codes and asked “have you ever crowd surfed?” He says “no, show me.” I smile and turn to the biggest dude I can find, tap his shoulder, give him the double thumb lift sign, point to my student, and he lifts him and throws him into the pit.
I meet him a few minutes later in between two walls of death, he thanks me for everything, the walls close and I see him jumping off into the sea of fists and feet once more. He came up to me after the show and said “that was the greatest thing a teacher has ever taught me.” I smiled, and in that moment realized that I learned something too: experience and learning are like a mosh pit, you either jump in yourself and bust your ass like I did when I was a kid, or someone shows you the way and tosses you in and you bust your ass anyway. Either way, when the walls of death close, someone is going to bust their ass eventually.
Legionary just released a new EP titled "Dominate & Depopulate," which can be heard below or picked up at Bandcamp here. The band comments:

Magister Templi hails from the cold, northern confines of Norway where black metal thrives. Although the band includes two members of the black metal group Svarttjern and the band delves in the occult, they are not a black metal band. The five piece plays grandiose heavy metal in the tradition of such greats as King Diamond and Rainbow. Magister Templi’s lyrics could be transposed into black metal songs, though.
The band writes about Western occultism, specifically Aleister Crowley. Their most recent album “Into Duat,” (reviewed here) available September 18th, is based on Egyptian Mythology—a critical part of Western occultism. Their penchant for the occult is analyzed in the following interview with Magister Templi members Abraxus d’Ruckus and Baphomet. More...
The Paramedic - which was recently accused of racism and homophobia by a number of music news outlets - has issued the following announcement about splitting with front man Mike Luciano:
"As many of you may know, we did not make it to the last few dates of the Music Over Matter Tour, and we haven't yet issued an explanation as to why... The Paramedic and vocalist Mike Luciano have mutually decided to part ways.
"Over the past few years, there have been creative differences, and differences in opinion between Mike and the rest of The Paramedic. There was always a strong friendship that came first, so these things were easy for us to overcome, for the most part.
"As of late, there has been a lot of attention on Mike for some of his opinions and views that he has shared with the world. Although this wasn't a problem for Mike, the rest of us in The Paramedic did have an issue with these things, as we do not share those views and opinions with him.
"Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and freedom of speech is something that we all share. So, Mike is free to say whatever he wants, whenever he wants. The problem is that when you are in a band with 5 other people, whatever you say, and whatever people think about you kind of gets spilled over onto everyone else, regardless of their own views and opinions. Finland's Re-Armed will unleash death this coming August 21 in the form of new single/EP "Total Lack of Communication."
This upcoming self-released EP follows sophomore album "Rottendam," which dropped last year. "Total Lack of Communication" is designed to keep the fires burning and blood flowing while the band works on new material for another full-length album.
Re-Armed has been around since 2001, when five guys from Kerava, Finland decided to start playing similar music likened to so-called "Gothenburg metal.” Their musical style has evolved along with many demo tapes, gigs, lineup changes and the well-received debut album "Worldwide Hypnotize," which was released internationally on January 2012 via Massacre Records.
The second album "Rottendam" was released on January 2014 via Eternal Sound Records, but major lineup changes froze the band almost for a year. Former guitarist/songwriter Tommi Helkalahti decided to leave the band, leaving vocalist Jouni Matilainen as the only original member.
The new EP's track listing is:
1. Total Lack of Communication
2. Meant to be Broken
3. Unhuman More...

San Diego's Wovenwar recently performed a special show at Brick By Brick on July 10th. It was an intimate show, full of the band's friends and family, and Wovenwar took the opportunity to film a portion of the set for a new video.
The "Archers" video was shot by Josh Knoff and directed/edited by Nick Hipa. Check it out below. Hipa adds:
"Our video for 'Archers' is cut from live footage filmed by Josh Knofffrom our recent hometown show at Brick by Brick. The lyrics heavily reference specific themes and songs from Shane's previous band (Oh, Sleeper) as a sentimental nod to how that chapter in his life was unforgettably formidable. With that in mind, it felt appropriate to create a visual edit captured from our venue in a room filled with quite a bit of family and friends… it kinda just completes the whole vibe as positively nostalgic."
Even with the current temperatures speaking a whole different language, autumn is already stretching out its feelers.
Time for some Finnish melancholia in form of the brand new Hanging Garden single and video for "Embers," taken off the forthcoming album "Blackout Whiteout."

Frankfurt-based thrash outfit Tankard unfortunately has to announce that drummer Olaf Zissel was taken to hospital due to a suspected stroke.
According to a statement from Nuclear Blast, Olaf is doing well under the circumstances at the moment. He will undergo examination by a team of doctors during the next few days, so he won’t be able to play the shows at Summer Breeze Festival, Germany and Motocultor Fest, France.
Gerd Lücking (Holy Moses), who would be on the road as a soundtech for Tankard, consented jump in as stand-in for Olaf and to play the two upcoming gigs. Tankard comments:
"We’re shocked and keep our fingers crossed for Olaf, that the suspicion doesn’t confirm and that he will be released from the hospital soon. We wish, that he will get well soon and fast. And we want to thank Gerd, who consented short dated to play these both shows with us." More...
