Gigantour 2006 Schedule Gets Tweaked

With the start of the second annual Gigantour looming on the horizon, organizers have tinkered with the schedule a bit, to include adding several new stops to the run.

Originally due to launch Sept. 7 in San Diego, the outing will now get underway Sept. 6 in Boise, ID, and won't hit San Diego until Sept. 9; the move knocks off the schedule a previously announced Sept. 9 show in San Luis Obispo, CA. Meanwhile, new stops have been added in Oklahoma City, OK; Boston; and Atlantic City, NJ.

The main-stage roster for the majority of the tour features headliners Megadeth, as well as Lamb of God, Opeth, Arch Enemy, Overkill, Into Eternity, Sanctity, and The Smashup. The Phoenix, Oklahoma City and Boston stops, however, won't include Into Eternity, Sanctity and The Smashup, and those three bands, as well as Overkill, won't be on board for the tour's Las Vegas engagement, which is now confirmed to take place at the House of Blues.

Tickets for most shows are on sale now, while those for stops in Chicago and Atlantic City will hit the box office Saturday (8/26). Details are shown in the itinerary below.

Gigantour is the brainchild of Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, who last year mounted an inaugural run that also included Dream Theater, Fear Factory, Dillinger Escape Plan and Nevermore. That trek is documented on the forthcoming "Gigantour 2005," a live set that comprises a two-disc audio version that hits stores tomorrow (8/22), and a two-DVD video version that surfaces Sept. 5.

Earlier this year, Megadeth signed a new record deal with Roadrunner Records.

"It is exciting to be some place you are respected, understood and appreciated," Mustaine said a statement. "The truth is there's a lot of people I've known there over the years. I'm stoked we're all coming back together again to work on this project."

Roadrunner plans to release "United Abominations," Megadeth's follow-up to 2004's "The System Has Failed," later this year, according to the label.

Here are the latest Gigantour 2006 tour dates: More...

Pantera Publicist Puts E! Reporter In Her Place

"E! was seeking video of Dimebag Darryl to use in an upcoming 25 Most Chilling Hollywood Murders special, and went to publicist Janie Hoffman. Her response?

Hi Beau. I’m leaving John’s comments in cause he’s a nice guy and I know this was difficult for him to send on through. I’m also blind copying a whole list of folks who will most likely copy a whole other list of folks until maybe this spreads like a good email should and end up on 100,000 websites to show the world what a collective bunch of tasteless morons you all are.

Dime’s birthday is this coming Sunday and your timing couldn’t be worse. Not that there is a good time. In fact, in honor of his birthday, I think I’ll send this around to a few of our favorite music websites who will most likely print the whole damn thing word for word, including your phone number and email. For good measure, I’m going to throw in the top 50 major daily music and some of the top TV writers in the country and why not, the weeklies as well.

I realize there is nothing anyone can do to stop E! from producing garbage like this below, as you’ve built your audience on the backs of other people’s private lives, creating some type of warped reality out of your garbage, which is merely excuses for programming on the cheap and at the expense of others.

I would like to request that you please read this out out loud to all the creative geniuses in the programming department that came up with this idea.

We have received your request to license footage on Dimebag Darrell Abbott for your upcoming production of, “25 Most Chilling Hollywood Murders.”

While we realize the average E! audience most likely has the IQ of an umbrella, they collectively are a smarter bunch than the lot of you. Your programming creativity falls somewhere to the bottom of the middle at best, and that’s saying a lot.

I ask that you all please take a moment from your busy days and close your eyes. Live out the fantasy of playing your favorite instrument onstage. Your closest friends in the world surround you, either in the band or in your crew. From one side of the stage, a man approaches. Thinking he’s a security guy or a drunk fan who’s just a bit out a line, you continue to perform. Two seconds later, he lifts his arms, aims a rifle at your brother, your best friend, your buddy and blows his brains out, not three feet from where you are. In the nanosecond it takes you to comprehend the magnitude of what just happened, he does it again…and again…and again…and again…and again…and again before taking aim and murdering additional members of your extended family as well as fans that have come to see you play. Two of your crew are shot but survive, but of course, will never be the same again.

Now imagine it’s a few years later and you turn on the TV set. Just in case you may be having at least a five minute respite from that scene that plays over and over in your head, just in case…..you flip through the channels and there it is. Again. Only with some two bit actor who thinks this is his big Hollywood break.

And please, if you don’t like that scenario, make believe it’s your child who got his brains splattered all over a stage in Ohio. And then you turn on E! Oh, the magic of television!

In case none of this appears clear enough and you need a definitive answer to your request…no. The answer if no, and on behalf of everyone that was there that night and everyone that misses him every day, you can take that no and shove it up your collective asses.

And, for your second request, yes, you can quote me on that.

Sincerely,

Jane Hoffman"

Interview

Interview With Life In Shadow's Josh Abbott

Bolingbrook, Illinois has a serious death metal act on its hands with LIFE IN SHADOW. This is a band that refuses to just go all out with the blast beat and takes extra careful consideration on their songwriting. They have been making some solid noise on their local club scene and seem to be gaining a pretty strong momentum right now. They have hands down one of the most talented young metal drummers out of the underground in young Josh Abbott, and so I am real happy to have a chance to interview this hard-hitter. More...

Video Available of Kirk Hammett's Jam With Tool

A low-quality video clip of METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett performing with TOOL during their headlining appearance at the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday (August 18) has been posted online at YouTube.com.

According to one TOOL fan's eyewitness account posted at the ToolNavy.com web site, TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan introduced Hammett by saying, "We have a special guest tonight. He's not [unintelligible], and he's not Elvis. Well, maybe he's their bastard son, Mr. Kirk Hammett." "[Kirk] then proceeded to come out and play guitar on 'Sober'. I've never been partial to METALLICA, and for those of you who are, I'm sorry to report that Kirk damn near butchered the song. His drunken so-called 'solo' was particularly sloppy and completely extraneous. Only the band coming back through to thrash the rest of the song out extremely hard saved it. Then he totally tripped out and flustered Adam [Jones, TOOL guitarist] by grabbing him for his 'hug' and kissing him on the mouth! Only to return at the end of the show to the stage to perform the 'we're not worthy!' bow on his knees before the guys. At least he realizes." More...

Deicide Video 'Banned' By U.K. TV Station

ccording to an Earache Records press release, U.K. music TV channel Scuzz TV has "banned" DEICIDE's video for the song "Homage for Satan", condemning it for being offensive and derogatory.

In a statement, a Scuzz representative allegedly declared that "the lyrical content is religiously offensive, derogatory, and can be read as improper exploitation of any susceptibilities of the audience."

They further commented, "With regards the imagery itself, the inclusion of a priest or religious figure in any belief system is always a very touchy subject, but the possession of one such person, and the disparaging respect for the Christian Bible is in direct conflict with Ofcom regulations."

Earache Records commented in a statement, "The video, featuring blood-splattered zombies on a rampaging mission to capture a priest forcibly underlies DEICIDE's explicit stance against religion, yet is a representation of death metal at its best. The banning of the video coincides with the eagerly anticipated release of DEICIDE's highly acclaimed album, 'The Stench of Redemption', and effectively removes the chance for extreme music to be represented to a mass audience [in the U.K.] The outright banning of the video marks a worrying trend, as the station declares that they 'generally don't play death/black metal on Scuzz anymore' yet boldly label themselves as a 'rock hard' channel."

To make your own mind up about the video, you can check it out on YouTube at this location.
