One Man Army & the Undead Quartet Plan Xmas Single
ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET frontman Johan Lindstrand (ex-THE CROWN) has posted the following message at the band's official web site:
"You probably remember that I talked about a special thing before the new album will be released? Well, the thing is that we're going to hit the studio in early September to record a Christmas single. It's gonna be entitled 'Christmas For The Lobotomizer'. It's gonna include one brand new song which will be the title track on this single. The same title as above.
Other tracks on this album will be three or four live tracks recorded during one of the many shows we've done this year. We haven't decided on which ones yet. The cool thing with this is that it will be released on a limited edition of 500 copies and you will only be able to buy it from the Nuclear Blast mail-order so you must act fast and hard if you want a copy. And the most important thing: This brand new Army song will only be available on this Christmas single. Release date will be around Christmas time. More exact date as soon as we know. Check it out!"
ONE MAN ARMY AND THE UNDEAD QUARTET released its debut album, "21st Century Killing Machine", in the U.S. this past spring via Nuclear Blast Records. The band supported the album release with an extensive European tour alongside Finland's CHILDREN OF BODOM and Hungarian hardcore/thrash metallers EKTOMORF.

Miss Ozzfest 2006 Crowned
Jennifer Parker (photo) from Buffalo, NY was crowned Miss Ozzfest 2006 at the final show of this year's tour earlier today (Sunday, August 13) in West Palm Beach, Florida. Check out photos of all the contestants at this location.
As previously reported, throughout the summer, Ozzfest fans took matters into their own hands, voting for their favorite entrants at Ozzfest.com. All entries collected from Ozzfest emcee Big Dave (well-known for his role in MTV's "Battle for Ozzfest") and professional Ozzfest party guy, Eddie, were posted for fans to vote on. The top three in each tour city were awarded free tickets to the show in their city, where at some point during the evening's festivities, the trio of contestants were presented on stage to the discerning hard rock fans who voted on a winner. Photos of each winning contestant were posted once again on Ozzfest.com, where fans were able to pick their Miss Ozzfest 2006.
Alice In Chains Fans Conflicted Over New Singer
Robert Morast of South Dakota's Argus Leader reports that ALICE IN CHAINS sold a couple thousand tickets or so in advance for the show Saturday night (August 12) at the Sioux Empire Fair that was to feature COMES WITH THE FALL singer William DuVall with the surviving AIC members — Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez and Sean Kinney. The support is kind of surprising, considering that, as a rule, rock fans hate change. That's why, even among AIC's thirsty admirers, there's some hesitation to embrace ALICE IN CHAINS 2.0.
"I think initially I was a little bit shocked. Seeing them tour without Layne [Staley] was a little odd at first," says Barry Van Beek, a musician and longtime ALICE IN CHAINS fan from Rock Valley, Iowa. "But now, I think, I've come to terms with it and am pretty excited about it."
Van Beek says his acceptance of this new AIC came through reading how guitarist Jerry Cantrell said this tour is so the band can play the songs one more time.
Fans appreciate the return. But there still are some conflicting emotions.
"I know I'll stand there in awe. I'll also be quite saddened. To hear those songs sung by somebody else will be kind of strange," Van Beek says.
It's a common concern.
"There have been a few people who have said to me personally, 'it's not the same guy, it's not the same thing,' " says Matt Adamski, director of the Sioux Empire Fair. "But you know, it's still going to be a good show. The core group is there. The music is there."

Interview
Interview With Ranke From Southern Cross
Asheville, North Carolina's SOUTHERN CROSS have begun to make a lot of people in the underground stand and take notice to their Pantera-influenced & Whiskey-soaked brand of metal. They have an endless stream of talent outpouring from all members and there seems to be no end in sight. They are currently working on new material and have been playing well received local shows, and I believe from the outpouring of interest going on at MySpace currently for them that this shows us only a small indicator of the big things to come. I am pleased to get some Q&A in with their bassist, Ranke.

Heavy Metal Gets Socially Conscious
"Heavy Metal Gets Socially Conscious" is an AP article that's been making its rounds through the papers around the country. It's good for heavy metal to get some exposure like this, much less in a positive light for a change. Here are some excerpts:
"Heavy metal singer Chris Barnes didn't know what people would think of "Amerika the Brutal," an anti-war song he wrote after his cousin deployed to Iraq in 2003."
"He heard a number of complaints, but also received supportive e-mails from American troops in the war zone."
"It kind of sent a shiver up my spine because those are the guys I didn't want to offend by sounding anti-war," said Barnes, vocalist for the death metal band Six Feet Under."
"Other metal bands are finding similar inspiration."
"Lamb of God's albums criticize American foreign policy. Cattle Decapitation are ardent vegetarians who use explicit album covers and songs like "Veal and the Cult of Torture" to condemn the meat industry. Serj Tankian of System of a Down is co-founder of a nonprofit organization that works on social issues."
