Minsk Finishing New Album
Chicago/Peoria, IL quartet Minsk (bassist/vocalist Sanford Parker, drummer Anthony Couri, guitarist/vocalist Chris Bennett and vocalist/synth player Tim Mead) have been holed up at Parker's Volume Recording studio (Pelican, Unearthly Trance) where they have been tracking for weeks. Mix down for the album is currently scheduled to happen over the later half of September. The as-yet-untitled Relapse Records debut is scheduled for an early 2007 release.
Parker comments, "The new album is coming along very well. The process of working on this album has been really exciting. The writing of this album has challenged us to explore some new territory and participate in the creation of something even more progressive and more organic than we've done before."
In related news, the band will also be contributing to the upcoming Eyehategod tribute, For The Sick, with their rendition of "Ruptured Heart Theory."
Alchemist Give Update On Remainder of 2006
Australian psychedelic metal band ALCHEMIST has posted the following update on its official web site:
"We have been writing solidly for what feels like an eternity but it's really coming together now. It's definitely going to be a different record to the rest, possibly the punchiest since 'Lunasphere' [1995]/ 'Spiritech' [1997] era. The overall vibe is less cut and dry heavy soft bits and integrated - heavy - psychedelia - driving - trippy mind melt moments!
"We have had some exciting offers for the future and can't wait to get this next record out and get back on the road. Only one more show this year: the big one!
"The last Metal for the Brain festival will be held on Saturday, November 4th, 2006 at the University of Canberra Refectory. This is the last planned ALCHEMIST show for 2006 and will mark the 15th anniversary of the original show and the final instalment as an annual Australian metal event! This year's show will be huge!"
ALCHEMIST's fifth studio album, "Austral Alien", was released in May 2003 through Chatterbox Records in Australia and Relapse Records in the rest of the world.

Blinded Colony New Album Release Pushed Back
Swedish melodic death metal quintet BLINDED COLONY, have announced that they will push the release of their sophomore album titled Bedtime Prayers back one month:
"Hey guys! Today I have some rather bad news, as you all know we've been working our asses off on the new album Bedtime Prayers but unfortunately we have to postpone the release to the 10th of November in Europe and 14th of November worldwide through Pivotal Rockordings. The reason for this is that we simply couldn't make the deadline: Schuster has been screaming his lungs out and therefore got himself a very soar throat, which means delays.
On the good side the album will only be delayed one month. Thanks for you patience and I'm confident that all BLINDED COLONY supporters WILL be more than satisfied with the result this time."

As reported earlier, the surviving members of DISSECTION have now officially confirmed the death of the band's mainman, Jon Nödtveidt. The group's statement on the matter reads as follows:
"As rumours have started to spread we feel obliged to confirm Jon Nödtveidt's death.
"Jon Nödtveidt was a man who lived his life according to his convictions and True Will. A couple of days ago he chose to end his life by his own hands. As a true Satanist he led his life in the way he wanted and ended it when he felt that he had fulfilled his self-created destiny. Not everyone will have understanding or acceptance for his personal path in this life and beyond, but all must respect his choice. More...

Dissection Frontman Jon Nödtveidt Commits Suicide
DISSECTION frontman Jon Nödtveidt has committed suicide. Nödtveidt's death was confirmed by the Swedish distributor Sound Pollution, whose staff has worked with DISSECTION throughout the band's career. A posting on the Sound Pollution web site, reads: "RIP Jon Nödtveidt 1975-2006. Condolences from Sound Pollution & Black Lodge."
Nödtveidt formed DISSECTION in 1989 and released two full-length albums with the group — "The Somberlain" (1993) and "Storm of the Light's Bane" (1995) — before he was convicted in Sweden of felony murder of 37-year-old homosexual Algerian Josef Ben Maddour in 1997. He was released from prison in 2004, at which point he restarted DISSECTION.
DISSECTION announced in May that it would split up imediately following its final performances in support of its recently released CD, "Reinkaos". The band was subsequently forced to cancel its two previously announced appearances in North America (Sept. 1 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, CA and Sept. 6 at B.B. King Blues Club in New York City) after Nödtveidt was denied legal entry into the United States as a result of his conviction.
DISSECTION's most recent album, "Reinkaos", was released in May on The End Records.
No further details surrounding the circumstances of Jon Nödtveidt's death have been released at this time.
Blut Aus Nord Set Release Date For New Album
Candlelight Records has confirmed October 3rd as the US release date of MoRT, the eagerly anticipated new album from French extremists Blut Aus Nord. The album adds to the band's trilogy of albums and growing stateside sales and fanbase.
Introduced to US audiences via their early 2004 Candlelight debut The Work Which Transforms God and 2005 issue of their previously unavailable catalog Memoria Vestusta and Ultima Thulee, Brave Words Bloody Knuckles says, "Blut Aus Nord pushes the definition of music; disfigured, anti-social, pure, raw black metal... Eccentric." Ultimate Metal calls The Work Which Transforms God, "grim, forward-thinking... probably one of the most amazing black metal albums of the last several years."
With MoRT, Blut Aus Nord have crafted an album that is complex, haunting and sure to draw the band continued fan and media applause. A singular composition consisting of eight united chapters, MoRT contains the gruesome soundtrack that has quickly become the trio’s acclaimed hallmark. Nearly two years in the making, the album incorporates uniquely innovative guitar play (layering similar to early Emperor), a corrosive rhythm section and bitter vocals. Kerrang says it best when calling the band's music, "the sound of underground metal's black heart, twisted beyond all recognition."
Formed in 1994, the faceless Blut Aus Nord have enjoyed a steadily increasing worldwide sales and fanbase. Metal Maniacs, Terrorizer, Kerrang, Decibel and many others commend the band’s sinister sound, often likened to a metamorphis of Darkthrone, Neurosis and Godflesh.

"The shows in Chile are temporarily suspended. We will update you as soon as we have exact news. We can’t tell more at the moment, but we’re trying to solve the problem somehow. Sorry for the inconvenience. Of course you will be updated here, through the website, and newsletter."
In more upbeat news, Vision Divine have announced a chat session with new bassist Cristiano Bertocchi. The chat is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22nd at 9 PM (Italian time). For any questions email maximus@visiondivine.com.

Giant Squid Announce Lineup Changes
Austin, Texas-based eclectic doom rock act GIANT SQUID have issued the following update:
"GIANT SQUID recently completed a quick jaunt across the U.S., including select dates with new labelmates STOLEN BABIES, as well as meeting up with The End Records veterans AGALLOCH for their CD release show in Portland, OR. Unfortunately the band couldn't come out of it with out losing a few tentacles.
"In the last days of the tour, GIANT SQUID's drummer, Mike Conroy, and keyboard/trumpet player, Tim Conroy, both decided to leave the band, though they did stay on to play the last mid-West dates. It seems they found little enjoyment in the adventurous yet harsh ways of tour life. Living out of a van, truck stops, and dank, dark clubs isn't for everyone. The ability to rock fifteen kids one night after a 12-hour drive, the same way you rocked the four hundred people at the show the night before, is something that most people don't have in them. It's a rough life and the band understands their desire to leave and wishes them the best. More...

Blotted Science Replace Drummer Yet Again
BLOTTED SCIENCE, the instrumental extreme metal project led by guitarist Ron Jarzombek (WATCHTOWER, SPASTIC INK) and bassist Alex Webster (CANNIBAL CORPSE), has parted ways with drummer Derek Roddy (ex-HATE ETERNAL, NILE) who replaced original skinsman Chris Adler (LAMB OF GOD) only months ago. Taking Roddy's place is highly touted New Jersey native Charlie Zeleny of newly signed Black Market Activities/Metal Blade recordings artists BEHOLD... THE ARCTOPUS.
"Well, sometimes things don't quite work out they way you want them to and this is one of those instances," commented Ron Jarzombek on the split. "Derek Roddy gave us his notice a couple of weeks ago and won't be a part of BLOTTED SCIENCE after all. Everything is still cool between us. Basically, Derek did not have the necessary time to dedicate to the project — he's writing a book and has a clinic tour coming up — and, unfortunately, the physical distance between us proved to be a bigger than anticipated obstacle in the recording process. Anyway, the good news is that Charlie Zeleny from BEHOLD... THE ARCTOPUS has stepped in on the fly and he's already begun final tracking. Charlie is totally smokin' on this shit! The man is seriously skilled and besides doing lots of session work on the East Coast, Charlie is also working with Jordan Rudess from DREAM THEATER as a member of his online conservatory staff. You can get the full lowdown on Dr. Z on his website www.CharlieZeleny.com . Barring any further delays we'll have all the drums recorded by October/November and finish the album before Christmas."
BLOTTED SCIENCE's debut CD, "The Machinations of Dementia", is tentatively scheduled for an early 2007 release through a yet-to-be determined label. Among the 16 songs set for inclusion are 'Narcolepsy', 'Bleeding In The Brain', 'R.E.M.', 'Synaptic Plasticity', 'Laser Lobotomy', 'The Insomniac', 'EEG Tracings', 'Oscillation Cycles', and 'Brain Fingerprinting'.
As I Lay Dying Singer Starts Record Label
As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis recently started his own label, High Impact Recordings. Not suprisingly, the label will be an imprint of Metal Blade Records. High Impact's first signing is California metal band, A Love Ends Suicide (originally announced as a Metal Blade signing). Commenting on his new label and initial signing, Lambesis states:
"After being on tour for the past five years, I decided I should start a record label as I've met so many amazing musicians and I know this is the right way to give exposure to those bands I believe in. I've been given an amazing opportunity to work with Metal Blade on the release of some upcoming records and I'll now be teaming up with the same people that have put their hearts behind As I Lay Dying and I'm very honored to be doing so. A Love Ends Suicide is a band that I've wanted to work with for a while and will now be the first band released through Metal Blade/High Impact."
A Love Ends Suicide's new album, "In The Disaster," will hit stores on September 5th. For now, you can check out some material from the release here.
