Throes Of Dawn Recording Album

Finnish blackened doom metal combo THROES OF DAWN recently issued the following update via their website:

"We made a firm decision earlier this year to dedicate this year solely to song writing. We have been busy testing and experimenting with the new material. A lot of big things has happened in our personal lives as well. We have also purchased new recording gear and other instruments in order to widen the sound spectrum of the band."

"The final round of test recordings for the new songs is now ongoing and the material seems to be very promising! The music is now even more atmospheric and organic. The music is flowing through the speakers like a soundtrack to a dream."

"No titles to be revealed yet, but it seems that we now have enough material to start the recordings of the full-length album later this year. So, stay tuned for more detailed information!"

Decrepit Birth Give Tour Update

Santa Cruz, California-based death metallers DECREPIT BIRTH have issued the following update:

"We would like to thank everyone who made the Bloodletting 5 tour a great success for us. A huge thanks goes out to everyone in DEEDS OF FLESH, VILE and ODIOUS MORTEM, as well as Mike and Thunderdome Touring! We would also like to give a special thanks to every single fan that came out to the shows and supported this tour package! We met a lot of cool people on the road and it really means a lot to us to see the support you gave us! Also, thanks to anyone who extended their hospitality to the bands and gave us a place to crash for the night or shared their weed or beer with us, we fucking appreciate that shit! Some of you might have heard of our guitarist Mike Turner's small ordeal at the Canadian border. We just wanted to let you all know that Mike did spend the weekend in a Canadian jail due to multiple attempts to cross the border into Canada. He was really disappointed about not making it across the border because he really wanted to get a chance to play in Canada. Despite the absence of Mike, the Canadian shows turned out to be a big success for DECREPIT BIRTH, and we can't wait to get back up there. Next time we'll make sure that Mike can make it out there with us."

DECREPIT BIRTH has uploaded two recently recorded demo songs to their official MySpace profile. You can check out the tracks "Await the Unending" and "Through Alchemy Bound Eternal" on their MySpace page.

DECREPIT BIRTH's debut album, "...And Time Begins", was released in October 2003 via Unique Leader Records.

The Haunted Reveal More Information On New Album

Sweden’s THE HAUNTED are about to return with the follow-up to 2004’s critically acclaimed “rEVOLVEr” album, which saw original vocalist Peter Dolving return to the band’s ranks and resulted in the ultimate contemporary masterpiece for the whole extreme music movement.

On October 30, 2006, THE HAUNTED will release “The Dead Eye”, the band’s fifth official studio album, guitarist Anders Björler comments on the working process:

"I just got the final master from Tue Madsen (our producer) with all the tracks in the final order, and it simply sounds killer. Completing "The Dead Eye" basically took all spring, starting with some rehearsing and pre-production early January. We left the Antfarm studio in early June a bit perplexed but with a sense of having created something very strong and powerful. You always feel a bit weird after a recording session. It's hard to distance yourself from your work, but this time we all felt that we had accomplished something out of the ordinary. Working with Tue Madsen as engineer/producer has been great, and it surely reflects on the album. Tue has the same kind of musical background as all of us, so it was pretty easy to communicate ideas and to explain our vision."

In addition to that, THE HAUNTED just celebrated their tenth year of existence after being founded on July 27, 1996. Guitarist Anders on this special moment in the band’s history:

“We wish to thank all the people that have been working with us from the start, and of course a big thanks to our fans supporting us through the years!”

THE HAUNTED will play some well chosen dates around the release of “The Dead Eye“ to showcase their brand new album – the UK show is:

November 11 - London, England @ TBA

As announced last week, THE HAUNTED will also be making a special one off headlining festival appearance at DAMNATION FESTIVAL on October 6.

Satyricon Shoot Video For "The Pentagram Burns"

Norwegian black metallers Satryicon have revealed details about their new video for "The Pentagram Burns" on their website:

"We spent the weekend shooting a new video for 'The Pentagram Burns' with director HÃ¥vard Arnstad in Oslo, Norway. The video will be ready for viewing the first week of September here on this website, before it hits TV stations around the globe. Visually the video is strongly linked with the look and the style from the album cover, hence we find ourselves covered with minor burns all over bodies and it feels nothing but good. Stills from the video shoot will be posted here in a few days and in the meantime we would like to thank the director, the crew and the cast for the effort and the hard work you put down!"

Satryicon's latest album, "Now, Diabolical," was released earlier this year.

Candlemass Comments On Singer Situation

Candlemass mainman, songwriter and bassist Leif Edling has tuned in to enlighten fans of the living Swedish Doom legend a tiny bit regarding the whole Messiah issue:

"It is hotter than hell right now (in Sweden anyway) and most of you doomlovers are on vacation. So are we. And we do get worried questions though about what is going on in the band regarding Messiah and the new album. I can't really say if Messiah will sing on the upcoming album or not, but the last thing I heard was a little bit positive. Let us hope that it becomes 100% certain it will happen. It's all between Messiah and the label now you see. It is summer holiday time don't forget. I hope this issue can be solved soon as we need to carry on the work on the new album. The past months hasn’t exactly been the best time for Candlemass. Myself, Lars, Mappe and Jan are pretty frustrated over the current singer situation, but we will solve it. Somehow. We got a great Candlemass album in the pipeline, we will not waste that! If Messiah sings or not is really up to the man himself now."

The release of the new and yet untitled Candlemass album is tentatively schedule for release on February 2nd, 2007, via Nuclear Blast Records.

Dillinger Escape Plan Not Playing Dirt Fest

Despite previous announcements to the contrary, Dillinger Escape Plan will not be playing Michigan's Dirt Fest on Saturday. The band has issued the following statement:

"There has been a lot of confusion as to whether or not we are actually playing this fest coming up called Dirtfest. Their website has us advertised as playing, ours does not, blah blah. WE ARE NOT PLAYING. We apologize to anyone who bought tickets just because they thought that we were playing, even though it is not our apology to give. We have never confirmed to play that show, and although we talked to the promoters about it, never signed a contract nor received any kind of agreement of any kind. One day after discussing it we were just announced as playing it. It is a pain in the ass for us to look like assholes now to people who have paid to see us thinking that we would be there, but again, it is not something we ever confirmed to play, and it was poor decision making on their part to advertise us before confirming anything and at this point in the game is just plain old false advertising. Again, unfortunately, the person who is affected the most is the one who paid to see us play only to find out that we are not, and we apologize on behalf of all parties involved, regardless of who is at fault. Go and have a good time anyway, there are a bunch of bands playing, some of whom you should surely find to be decent if you don't like them already. In the future, if it is not posted on this website or on our www.dillingerescapeplan.com site, don't believe that shit!"

Nevermore Reissues Bonus Materials Detailed

Seattle's NEVERMORE have opened their vault unveiling previously unreleased material to be included as bonus content for the September 5 th re-issues of their three early releases: Nevermore, In Memory, and The Politics Of Ecstasy . All three classics are presented with revamped artwork, as well as extended liner notes written by metal's premier journalist Martin Popoff with contributions from frontman Warrel Dane. All three releases and their bonus content have been remastered as well, intensifying the audio experience.

After the break-up of cult metal band Sanctuary, former members vocalist Warrel Dane, bassist Jim Sheppard, and guitarist Jeff Loomis formed the band NEVERMORE, signing with the then-young metal label Century Media and releasing their self-titled debut in 1995. Century Media is proud to present the original release expanded with five bonus tracks, as well the video for "What Tomorrow Knows".

The debut's follow-up was the darker, more melancholic In Memory EP which expanded the band's daringly intense, technically flawless style with an entirely new dimension that is still part of their unique sound. Now featuring exclusive demo recordings, today's version of the EP reaches album length and is an essential collector's item for long-term fans as well as a great starting point for new ones.

NEVERMORE's second full-length album, 1996's The Politics Of Ecstasy, was graced by a monstrous sound and featured songs that have remained fan favorites and in the band's live set. The band's classic cover of Judas Priest's "Love Bites" as well as the video for "Next In Line" expands this masterly work of lyrical cynicism, depressing moods and brilliant musicianship.

Metal Injection Launches Overdose

New York based METAL Injection has always been on the cutting edge of new media. When the show started 3 years ago, producers saw opportunity on the internet to reach a worldwide audience and became one of the firsts to fully stream a half-hour show online. The shows would constantly feature interviews with up and coming bands (THE RED CHORD, A LIFE ONCE LOST, FINTROLL, BEHEMOTH DESPISED ICON) as well as more established names (SLIPKNOT, LAMB OF GOD, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SOULFLY, UNEARTH) in a comfortable environment being themselves, often showing the audience a different side of backstage life.

Fast forward three years later with technology online improving, METAL Injection is proud to announce the launch of Overdose: the first free 24/7 on-demand broadband network for extreme music. The site features plenty of channels to browse through, including the Bootleg Series which features live footage of bands, and the Exclusives which gives you backstage access like nowhere else, showing you everything you don't see that happens backstage as guided by the musicians who live it.

To kick everything off with a bang, this week is SOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND week on the network, which will feature new clips daily from all the bands on the tour including AS I LAY DYING, CANNIBAL CORPSE, IN FLAMES, GWAR, TRIVIUM, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, BEHEMOTH, HORSE THE BAND and much more. In the coming weeks, Metal Injection will have tons of content from behind the scenes at Ozzfest '06 as well as the only place for pro-shot live footage of the 2006 MARYLAND DEATH FEST.

Interview With Mack From 33Degree

Los Angeles, California's progressive metal outfit 33DEGREE has truly withstood the harshest tests that can be thrown at a band, including the stroke of their skin basher. They are a rock act that seems to have blurred the line between heavy music and spirituality, in my mind, which is what attracted me to them in the first place. The band is comprised of Liz on vocals, Jesus on bass, Blair on guitar and Mack on the sticks. They combine elements of TOOL and LACUNA COIL effectively to arrive at their edgy modern rock sound, yet still somehow they manage to maintain a musical distinction that is very much their own. And that says a lot when you look at all the other bands stuck in blast beast syndrome. They have just finished some recent touring with POWERMAN 5000 and are back in Los Angeles now to do a couple dates on the Sunset Strip soon. It only took me about four months or so to finally get Mack on drums to sit down for this much anticipated Q&A. I thank him and the rest of the group for being one of underground's truly important rock bands. More...
