Deftones Post New Song Online
A brand new DEFTONES song, entitled "Hole in the Earth", has been posted online at the band's MySpace page. The track is the first single off the band's upcoming album, "Saturday Night Wrist", due on October 31 through Maverick. The follow-up to 2003's "Deftones" features guest appearances by SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian on the track "Mein" and Annie Hardy of GIANT DRAG on "Pink Cellphone".
With regards to the new material's musical direction, DEFTONES drummer Abe Cunningham told Billboard.com earlier in the year, "Actually, if you look at our last record, I refer to it as 'Dark Days' because that's basically what it was. It's kind of an incomplete record from my viewpoint. I think it's a good record [with] a lot of good songs but the new album, from start to finish, is a very complete record and has all of the extremes that we like. I'd say it's kind of hard." More...

Mob Rules Reveal 'Ethnolution A.D.' Track Listing
German melodic metallers MOB RULES have finalized the track listing for their new album, "Ethnolution A.D.", due on October 23 in Europe (October 20 in Germany). Produced once again by Markus Teske (VANDEN PLAS, SPOCK'S BEARD, OASIS), the CD marks the recording debut with the group of guitarist Sven Lüdke (ex-MURDER ONE) and bassist Markus Brinkmann. According to a press release, "next to typical MOB RULES characteristics, such as creative intros, gritty guitar riffs and driving rhythms, the new album also holds a few surprises in store. Such as the recording's centrepiece, the monumental four-part opus, 'Ethnolution', which is is certain to go down well with MOB RULES' large following. The offering alternates between progressive approaches that touch on QUEENSRŸCHE in terms of atmospheric density, almost thrashy guitar riffs and a raging finale that deserves the term 'anthem.' Never before have MOB RULES combined their whole diversity as convincingly in one single song, the haunting number's lyrics dealing with the ethnological development of the human race."
"Ethnolution A.D." track listing:
01. Ethnolution A.D.
a. Prologue
b. Unholy War
c. Ashes to Ashes
d. Fuel to the Fire
05. Veil of Death
06. The Last Farewell
07. Day and a Lifetime
08. River of Pain
09. Ain't the One
10. New Horizon
11. With Sparrows
12. Better Morning

Interview
Interview With Ekotren's Steve Chin
There really aren't any underground metal bands on the scene today made up mostly of twenty-one year olds that are making any kind of serious impression today. Cape Coral, Florida's EKOTREN is an exception. Scratch that, a major exception. With a recent successful performance on Van's Warped Tour 2006 and an increasing following picking up steam in the local clubs of Florida, Ekotren seems to really be holding their own against the crowds of band competition. They have also recently self-released their debut EP 'The Tables Have Turned', which this rock journalist gave an overwhelming 'thumbs up' in review. It's really turned into quite a year for this bunch. With as crazy as things have been going for them, I am pleased to have gotten some questions in with their talented man on the keys, Steve Chin. The 2-CD and 2-DVD sets, due on August 22 and September 5, respectively, via Image Entertainment, capture 2005's heavy metal onslaught that was hailed as the best metal bill of the year, with Revolver magazine calling it "the mother of all shred fests." All That Remains On Headbangers Ball
ALL THAT REMAINS will be the featured guests on "Headbanger's Ball" on Saturday, September 9 on MTV2.
ALL THAT REMAINS' third album, "The Fall of Ideals", has sold 30,000 copies in the United States since its July 11 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Recorded with producer Adam Dutkiewicz (KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) and engineer Peter Wichers (ex-SOILWORK) at Zing Studios in Massachusetts in March, "The Fall of Ideals" is the follow-up to 2004's critically-acclaimed "This Darkened Heart". The new CD also features art by renowned artist Travis Smith (ICED EARTH, OPETH) and marks the recording debut of the band's new members, bassist Jeanne Sagan and drummer Shannon Lucas.
David Draiman's Surgery Is Successful
DISTURBED's David Draiman underwent successful surgery on August 15 to fix a deviated septum which was making breathing difficult and affecting his vocal abilities on stage.
As it has been reported in the press, the band has been forced to miss numerous shows on their current album cycle due to the problems David was encountering with his voice. Draiman went through the process of visiting many specialists over the last calendar year before doctors arrived at the conclusion that he would need to undergo septo-plasty to reverse and correct the damage that three broken noses have done to his septum over the last several years. The surgery will enable Draiman to breathe through his nose which takes pressure off of his throat and vocal chords that were becoming dry and irritated.
David said, "I'm excited and relieved that the surgery is over and cant wait to get back on the road to see our fans in Europe and to make up the dates we missed."
DISTURBED drummer Mike Wengren recently told Launch that the band has no intention of coming off the road anytime soon. According to Wengren, the Chicago-based band is already planning its third Music As A Weapon tour for sometime this fall. "After Ozzfest we're supposed to go over to Europe, and then when we come back, we're hoping to put together Music As A Weapon," he said. "I don't have any confirmed dates, but we're hoping that's gonna come out, you know, November-ish through, say, February of '07, you know. It's gonna be a nice, long run."
Previous Music As A Weapon tours have featured bands like CHEVELLE, TAPROOT and DROWNING POOL in addition to the headliners.
Mixing Of The New Mnemic Album To Take Place
Danish modern metallers MNEMIC are preparing to enter Antfarm Studios in Aarhus, Denmark with producer Tue Madsen (HALFORD, THE HAUNTED) to begin mixing their as-yet-untitled third album. So far, out of the 13 tracks recorded, the following songtitles are confirmed to appear on the album: "Psyko Orgasm", "Shape of the Formless" and "Into The Nothingness Black".
Commented the band: "At this point we are still editing vocals and shortly we'll start with keys and samples. As soon as we are done with those, we will be back in Denmark at Tue's studio to begin the mix.
"The plan was to mix with Andy Sneap, but we ran into some 'technical differences'... TRIGGERS! We do not utilize triggers, and have not been utilizing triggers on the last two albums, therefore it did not make any sense to have Sneap mix the album, so we decided to go for an old friend of ours, who understands the band, and has been there with us from DAY 1."
MNEMIC's current sessions mark the first time that the band has recorded in America and represent the second production project of FEAR FACTORY guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers for Nuclear Blast (as he recently turned the knobs for THREAT SIGNAL's debut, "Under Reprisal"). The new CD will feature guest appearances by Jeff Walker (CARCASS) and Shane Embury (NAPALM DEATH). An early 2007 release via Nuclear Blast Records is expected.
Korn Creates Animated Video For The Single Liar
KORN's animated video for "Liar", taken from the band's latest CD, "See You on the Other Side", has been posted online at YouTube.com. The clip was produced by the San Fransico-based company Big Bear Entertainment, which also has great animated videos from the likes of DISTURBED, BILLY IDOL and TOMMY LEE in its video catalog.
"It's basically a riff on the cover art of 'See You on the Other Side' — just wanted to keep it in the same spirit," creator Tony Shiff said.
"It doesn't take long if you have the right tools to do this style of video. I started doing them on a series for MTV2 called 'Video Mods'.
"We started making the video as part of a series on Yahoo! Music called 'Artist Mods', but Yahoo! lost their sponsor while we were doing the animation, so it didn't make it on the web site."
KORN released a collection called "Live and Rare" on May 9. The set features 13 cuts, including recordings of PINK FLOYD's "Another Brick in the Wall" and METALLICA's "One".
KORN's seventh album, "See You on the Other Side", has sold 1.02 million copies in the United States since coming out in December, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

News Update For Threat Signal
Just days before the release of their debut album Under Reprisal on Nuclear Blast Records, Canadian metal hopefuls THREAT SIGNAL have launched a self-produced video for the song "Counterbalance". The clip features footage of the band on the road, in the studio with producer Christian Olde Wolbers of Fear Factory, snippets from the "Rational Eyes" production video shoot, and plenty of live footage from North American shows as well as the band's recent appearance at Germany's Earthshaker Festival. The new video was shot and put together by the band and their crew themselves and can be seen at this location!
Meanwhile THREAT SIGNAL are boiling with excitement about the Under Reprisal North American release this Tuesday, August 22nd and the chance to play Earthshaker. Vocalist Jon Howard speaks from his home in Hamilton, Ontario..."Ever since I was a kid I've dreamed of releasing an album, and next week that dream becomes a reality. Words cannot describe the excitement! Under Reprisal has been released in Europe for a few months now, and has been doing great. However now it is being released on our home turf, and we'll actually get to see our album in stores, our video played, and even hear our music on the radio, it's a trip. Playing the Earthshaker Fest was just completely ridiculous. They treated us like fuckin rock stars. We played on a gigantic stage where we could actually move around, and to thousands of people who most of them knew who we were! Germany rules!"
THREAT SIGNAL will hit the road in October 5th for a five-week North American tour supporting Soilwork, Darkest Hour and Mnemic, sponsored by Decibel Magazine. "I've always been a huge fan of Soilwork, and our band is actually influenced by Soilwork," admits Howard. "I must have seen that band perform at least 5 times last year, and every show I was wishing we could open for them, now we are. Watch out for THREAT SIGNAL boys!"

Helloween Cancels North American Tour
HELLOWEEN's tour manager, Nikolas Krofta of Bottom Row Promotion, has issued the following statement:
"Due to unforeseen logistical and organizational problems, the German melodic metal act HELLOWEEN unfortunately has to call off the planned USA shows and the BW&BK festival in Montreal. Despite good advance ticket sales (where pre-sales already where available), North American organizers of the tour could not guarantee an economical and adequate routing of the tour. Therefore a consequent cancellation two months before tour start seemed the band management to be the fairest for fans and promoters at this point.
"The band apologizes for this cancellation but under these circumstances they could not guarantee a proper show for their fans. Instead HELLOWEEN will include the North American market on their next 2007/2008 world tour to present their full show under best possible conditions."
Negativa To Enter Studio Next Month
NEGATIVA, the new Quebec, Canada-based metal band featuring former GORGUTS members Steeve Hurdle (guitar, vocals) and Luc Lemay (guitar, vocals), along with Etienne Gallo (drums, ex-AUGURY) and Miguel Valade (bass, ex-ION DISSONANCE), has issued the following update:
"The last few weeks have been very thrilling for us as we have finally arranged to enter studio in mid-September to record three songs. We will again be working with our old friend Pierre Remillard but this time it will be at his famous Wild Studio. Pierre has produced GORGUTS' very first demo, 'And Then Comes Lividity', back in 1989, plus the albums 'Obscura' in 1998 and 'From Wisdom To Hate' in 2001. He will be assisted by none other than Jean-Yves Theriault, a.k.a. Blacky and former VOÏVOD. We will be more than honored to work with him in the studio. At the end of September, expect a MySpace page for you to, at last, listen to our music." Songtitles set to appear on the mini-CD are "Chaos in Motion", "Taedium Vitae" and "Rebellion".

Metallica Guitarist Jams With Tool In Hawaii
METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett reportedly joined TOOL onstage during their headlining appearance at the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday (August 18). According to one TOOL fan's eyewitness account posted at the ToolNavy.com web site, TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan introduced Hammett by saying, "We have a special guest tonight. He's not [unintelligible], and he's not Elvis. Well, maybe he's their bastard son, Mr. Kirk Hammett." "[Kirk] then proceeded to come out and play guitar on 'Sober'. I've never been partial to METALLICA, and for those of you who are, I'm sorry to report that Kirk damn near butchered the song. His drunken so-called 'solo' was particularly sloppy and completely extraneous. Only the band coming back through to thrash the rest of the song out extremely hard saved it. Then he totally tripped out and flustered Adam [Jones, TOOL guitarist] by grabbing him for his 'hug' and kissing him on the mouth! Only to return at the end of the show to the stage to perform the 'we're not worthy!' bow on his knees before the guys. At least he realizes."

Bloodsimple Launches Drummer Search
BLOODSIMPLE bassist Kyle Sanders has issued the following update:
"As many may know and others may not, we parted ways with our buddy Chris Hamilton [drums] a few months back. It sucked, but it happened. He's a slammin' drummer and a good dude but things happen for a reason and it happened. We didn't come out and publicly announce it for the main reason that we didn't want to get emails about 'who's the new drummer' and 'when are we holding auditions,' because we honestly didn't know and weren't ready for that. We're really wrapped up with writing the new record right now and have had several good players helping us out on that end. We're just trying to keep it as stress free as possible and the way we're doin' it works. When touring time comes, we obviously need a badass behind the kit so feel free to email or send any press kits to:

Dissection Frontman's Cause of Death Revealed
Swedish heavy metal musician Jon Nödtveidt, 31, was found dead on Wednesday, August 16 at his apartment in Hässelby, a suburb of Stockholm. He shot himself in the head and was surrounded by lit candles, Expressen reports. Shortly before the ritual suicide, he had sent farewell letters to his father and his girlfriend and explained to a friend, "I'm going away for a long, long time. I'm going to Transylvania."
Sometime between Monday (Aug. 14) and Wednesday, Nödveidt, vocalist and guitarist in the popular Swedish black metal band DISSECTION, chose to take his own life.
At 7:21 p.m. CET on Wednesday, a police patrol reported to the police communication center in Stockholm that a man had been found dead, the apparent victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. When Knives Go Skyward Keeping Name
Just a week after announcing that they'd changed their name to Deign, When Knives Go Skyward has changed their mind and will retain their name. The group has released the following statement:
"After we made the switch, we got a lot people telling us that they wanted the old name back. We never knew that that many people really cared about the name so much. Since we loved the old name and established ourselves with it, we decided to keep it for now and try to work with the potential labels who want us to change it. Thanks again to everyone who spoke up."
