Nora To Record New Album This Fall

Nora has written roughly eight songs for their next Trustkill Records release. The band plans to enter the studio to begin tracking the effort in late-September or early-October. According to bassist Mike Olender, "Expect a different kind of Nora record this time around. There's definitely a strong and distinct mix of our influences on this one. We don't have any names for the songs yet (due to a lack of lyrics at this point) but our insider names for them are animals - wolf, eagle, bear, etc. Kinda strange, I have to say... but amusing nonetheless."

Meanwhile, Nora will tour Japan in October.

The Haunted Set Release Date For "The Dead Eye"

Swedish thrashers THE HAUNTED have set an October 31 North American release date through Century Media Records for their new album, "The Dead Eye" (one day earlier internationally). The highly anticipated follow-up to 2004's critically acclaimed "rEVOLVEr" album was recorded in Denmark at Antfarm Studios with renowned producer Tue Madsen (HIMSA, KATAKLYSM) and is said to be the band's "most accomplished work to date." The group spent months working on the new material pushing themselves to create something unique that combines certain elements of their previous efforts, while ultimately forging ahead in new, unexplored directions.

Commented THE HAUNTED frontman Peter Dolving: "I think we've managed to find an immense sound: the drums are clearer, heavier and less processed, and we've even got acoustic guitars, congas, strings and loads of weird noise manipulations going on.

"As far as the vocals go, I honestly didn't know I could even sing some of the stuff. I was nervous as fuck when I got down to Tue's studio, and felt like a complete rookie: 'Shit, how the hell am I going to live up to this.' Turns out all I had to do was keep running my miles and warm up like when we're on tour.

"You can look forward to an album we're proud as fuck of, and we're looking forward to seeing you all again as soon as we head out for tour. It'll be ugly as ever, I'm sure."

THE HAUNTED's fourth album, "rEVOLVEr", entered the Swedish album chart at position No. 18 upon its release in October 2004. The follow-up to 2003's "One Kill Wonder" was recorded at Gothenburg's famed Studio Fredman (IN FLAMES, DIMMU BORGIR, ARCH ENEMY) with co-producers Patrik J. Sten and Fredrik Nordström and mixed at Antfarm by Tue Madsen. The album was released as jewel-case CD and limited edition digipak (each with a different cover), featuring two special bonus tracks, 'Fire Alive' and 'Smut King'.

Napalm Death Support PETA2

Look for ads this month rolling out with NAPALM DEATH supporting PETA2.com’s “Save #99” campaign, to view click here. The anti-vivisection ad quotes NAPALM DEATH vocalist/activist Barney Greenway as saying, “Vivisection is one of the ultimate acts of disrespect, and conclusions from it are questionable. Time to consign it to the history books.” The full-page ad centers around a primate “#99” who “lived in a cage in a laboratory in Vienna, VA. Everyday, workers forced tubes up his nose and down his throat to pump in and test a mysterious experimental substance. It made him sick and weak, and his hair fell out.” The ad continues asking readers to, “Join Barney in speaking out against cruel vivisection experiments on primates. #99 couldn’t stop the abuse - but you can.” The first chance North American readers will have to see the ad is in this month’s issue of Decibel Magazine.

Poisonblack Talk About New Album

POISONBLACK's Ville Laihiala says the band's forthcoming second album Lust Stained Despair sounded "like sh--" the first time he heard it. The band recorded the LP more than two years ago, but it didn't quite live up to the ex-SENTENCED frontman's standards. "That's the reason why we postponed it," he explained. "And also, I opened a bottle, and it stayed open for six months, so that was also a reason."

But this spring, the Finnish gothic metallers headed back into Tonebox Studio, in the band's hometown of Oulu, Finland, to record several new tracks and revisit others. "We recorded three new songs and some additional keyboards here and there, and then I flew to Denmark to mix it, so it would sound the way it sounds right now," Laihiala explained. "I am happy with it now. Everything feels great. We know we have a pretty strong album that we really feel honest about, and we've been rehearsing like apes."

The album, which is due in stores August 22, features 11 mind-melting tracks, including "Hollow Be My Name," "Soul in Flames" and "Pain Becomes Me." The singer said he tried to make the lyrical content "clever, and talk about getting rid of stuff through sex and whatever, because when I was 12, the only two things I had in life were music and masturbation. I know what I was thinking when I wrote those things, and the lyrics should have their own meaning to people."

But the follow-up to 2003's Escapexstacy is a different sound for POISONBLACK, according to Laihiala. "We were really trying to find a sound of a band playing live," he said. "Obviously, we wanted to do effects with keyboards. But there's only two rhythm guitarists, and we don't sound like eight guitarists live." So the album needed to sound more simplified than the band's debut offering.

Last month, POISONBLACK shot a clip for the track "Rush," even though Laihiala didn't want to. "I've always hated doing them, because I think they're a waste of money. Obviously, I care about how it looks — that it's not us eating diapers or whatever. But still, it doesn't play a big role in this [band]. It's not the reason why people do music."

This fall, POISONBLACK will tour Europe in support of LACUNA COIL — the trek begins September 22 and runs through November 8. Laihiala said he'd eventually like to tour the U.S. but added that "in the past, we've had a lot of issues with alcohol, and I kind of have this weird feeling of self-confidence to go back out on tour, but not too much immediately — I need to adjust my head again to the bus and that lifestyle."

Laihiala says he has managed to get his drinking under control, and gone are the days when he'd be drunk for three weeks straight, eating nothing but potato chips. But that doesn't mean he doesn't still like to imbibe.

"Some of us, including myself, drank booze for the wrong reasons," he said. "We dealt with those reasons, and the level of alcohol use is pretty much the same as it used to be — but for the right reasons."
