Arcane Bassist Leaves Band

Prog-metallers Arcane and their long-time bassist, Shirley, have gone their seperate ways. Whilst the Brisbane-based band has yet to issue any comments, Shirley has thanked all those that have supported him throughout his career with Arcane, saying

"I just want to thank everyone who has ever come out and seen me, and especially rto [sic] anyone who has enjoyed Desolace in particular which is a song that has meant so much to me. That song is yours now. It's something that I want you to sing along to everytime you hear it, and when you do, spare a thought for your old Uncle Shirley."

Also forth-coming from the ex-Arcane bassist was some advice and encouragement for his fans; "Support your local scene. I can't tell you the feeling I get when I see all your smiling faces, heads banging and singing along to our words. We have so much talent in this town alone...You give them an energy, a purpose, a reason to be more than who they are."

Interview

Interview With Divinity Destroyed

On August 7th 2006, I saw the New Jersey progressive death metal band Divinity Destroyed at The Continental, a bar in New York City. Recently losing their keyboardist, Divinity Destroyed are still going out and playing shows. Nonetheless, I went with my friend Steven to see Divinity Destroyed put on a short and sweet set of about 20 minutes. There was a crowd of about 30 people, most of which have never heard them before, but were certainly enjoying the music. Regardless of small technical difficulties they had with their guitars early on, they put on a killer show with a lot of energy and headbanging and all out insanity. After their performance, I conducted the interview outside a bookstore around the corner of the venue.

The band is an eccentric bunch of individuals that I enjoy hanging out with after their performances. I constructed questions for this interview that would bring out this part of their natural personality that isn’t heard in their music, but can be seen on their website and Myspace page. The questions I asked also spurred a lot of spontaneous conversations, which made the interview fun. Unfortunately some of the silly irrelevant side conversation was hard to hear from the audio recording and some of the funny statements made were hard to hear because there were multiple people talking at once. Despite the complication with transcribing, the interview was very amusing. More...
