Pelican Completing DVD Release
Pelican have posted some details on their "brand new pimped-out DVD" due out in November. The band also mentioned recently that they have already written five songs for their follow-up to The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw:
"We're putting the finishing touches on a DVD that should be out this Fall. The centerpiece of the release will be a show we played at the London Scala back in December, but it will also contain some interviews and various songs culled from live sets of the past. In digging through our video archive we realized that we have very little footage from our tour with Mono which, hands down, were consistantly our favorite performances. If anyone out there has video from the recent tour - especially the Chicago show - please get in touch."
"Now that I'm thinking of other really good shows if anyone has video of our show in Groningen, Netherlands from our tour with Cave In get in touch about that."
The band will be heading out on tour with Daughters in September.

Antigama Working Hard On New Album
Poland's ANTIGAMA has recently begun work on their Relapse debut album.
"We have already written 14 songs and certainly it's going be the most diverse, brutal and twisted material of Antigama. We can't wait untill the recording session!" says ANTIGAMA guitarist Sebastian Rokicki (the band is rounded out by Lukasz Myszkowski (Vocals), Michal Pietrasik (Bass) and Krzysztof Bentkowski (Drums)).
Additionally, the Warsaw-based, progressive grindcore quartet is working on two new songs for an upcoming split 3” CD with DRUGS OF FAITH. The split will be released on Selfmadegod Records, who recently reissued the band’s debut album Intellect Made Us Blind.
Heavy Metal Concert Closed By City Officials
The Associated Press reports that the organizer behind a seven-band heavy metal concert said he was forced to cancel the event after city officials made a last-minute change to his contract.
The concert was to have taken place Aug. 16 at the city's 450-person-capacity Community Theatre in Whittier, California. But after the city produced the new contract Wednesday, its cost tripled, Dave Valles said.
Valles said city officials created unreasonable barriers to block his event because they don't like heavy metal. Officials portrayed the teenage members of local bands set to play at the concert as "bloodthirsty animals," said Valles.
Assistant City Manager Nancy Mendez denied the city was biased against heavy metal.
She said officials took a "closer look" at the contract after reading disturbing messages about the event on networking Web site MySpace.com.
"There were some references to blood and violence," she said. "Even though that was just talk, and probably no fault of the promoter, it did stiffen some of our requirements."
Symphony X Set Title For New Album
Progressive metal act SYMPHONY X has set "Paradise Lost" as the title of the follow-up to 2002's "The Odyssey", tentatively due before the end of the year. The band expects to return to the road shortly after the release of the new album.
SYMPHONY X was recently forced to cancel a couple of European festival appearances after bassist Michael LePond was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease (an inflammatory bowel disorder). He has since underegone surgery and has been released from the hospital.
SYMPHONY X was one of the second-stage bands at last summer's Gigantour, a six-week festival trek co-headlined by MEGADETH and DREAM THEATER. "Rarities and Demos", the first fan club CD from the SYMPHONY X fan club, Church of the Machine, was shipped out in July 2005 to fan club members. The CD included demo material, rare unreleased material, and guitarist Michael James Romeo's interpretation of the "Star Wars" theme, done with over 15 guitar tracks.

CheechAndChong.com has uploaded several video clips of ALICE IN CHAINS' headlining performance at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey Friday night (August 4). Check out the clips — including an intro by comedian Jim Breuer — at this location.
As previously reported, "The Essential Alice in Chains" (Sony/Legacy) — a two-CD ALICE IN CHAINS compilation that originally was slated to be released more than two years ago — has had its release date pushed back once again — this time to September 5 from the previously announced July 25.
ALICE IN CHAINS — Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, Mike Inez and William DuVall (who is handling lead vocals for the group) — kicked off a new run of U.S. tour dates on July 29 at Columbia Meadows in Portland, Oregon.
Slipknots' Clown Checks In With DVD Update
SLIPKNOT percussionist Clown has checked in with the following update on the band's forthcoming DVD:
"It's coming along. It's very time consuming. As usual, we have tons of great footage to choose from. The DVD could probably be 10 hours long if we wanted it to be at this point.
I personally am enjoying the process because it's a great feeling to reflect on our past achievements (and disasters). So, in short, I've been enjoying the entire Subliminal concept - from writing, to practicing, to recording, to playing live - all in my head at once visually and audibly. We can't wait to share it with all of you.
Get ready."
Stay (sic),
Clown

Check out the tunes on the Prosthetic Records MySpace page.
Ill Nino Cancel European Tour
ILL NIÑO have posted the following update at their official website:
"It is with sincere regret that we must announce that Ill Niño will not be able to perform its upcoming European tour. Danny Couto, Ill Niño's percussionist, and also semi-pro skateboarder, was in a skateboarding accident late Wednesday (August 2nd) night. Danny landed on his wrist and tore a ligament and is unable to use his right wrist and arm. This accident makes it impossible for Danny to perform in the upcoming European tour. Ill Niño works and lives like a family and each member is integral to every show. Ill Niño feel that performing without Danny not only takes away from the live show, but is unfair to the fans who expect nothing less than an amazing show. We promise to make up the shows as soon as possible. Thanks for supporting Ill Niño!"
Most Precious Blood To Head Back To Studio
Following months of consistent touring in support of their last album, Most Precious Blood will be taking a break from the road and begin writing material for their next album. According to the band, "We have an abundance of ideas for a new record and we're anxious to immortalise them on a new disc."

Update From Megadeth Drummer
Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's OFFICIAL WEBSITE:
"It has been a bit since my last post here, but as I am sure most of you are aware, things have been quite busy with us â?? the latest being our quick trip over to Spain for a few festival shows.
"For me personally, I quite enjoy playing festivals overseas (or anywhere, for that matter) as it gives me a chance to perhaps re-acquaint myself with other bandmembers, meeting new bandmembers and hopefully (if time permits) catching some of these bands during their set. Some of these bands who are quite popular overseas may not play in my neck of the woods as much (at least in recent times). One such band at both festivals was Helloween, which oddly enough, I had never seen in their now 20-year-or-so career. Happily, I did watch them at both Spain festivals and I thought they were just great!! I had a few brief talks with their bass player (Markus Grosskopf) who was very friendly, so cheers to them.
"Of course, I did manage to see a few other bands as well, which all sounded great to me. Talked for a few with both Eric and Chuck from Testament â?? great dudes, great band, crushing set â?? end of story. All in all, it was a fun, quick trip for me.
"So now you know about Gigantour 2006 â?? what bands, what cities (for the most part) etc. I am really looking forward to all of this â?? I hope you are as well.
"And, of course, the new Megadeth record!!!! I will speak nothing about the content (I'm old-school that way), [but] I will say that I am very, very proud of this record and to be a part of it."
In other news, in an article from the LA TIMES, Megadeth frontman, Dave Mustaine bemoans the possible loss of Tower Records after 3 major music companies have stopped shipping CD's to them.
"Led Zeppelin changed my life, AC/DC changed my guitar playing, and Black Sabbath changed my approach to songwriting â?? and I found all of them because of Tower Records," Dave said. "What could they possibly put in the place of that Sunset store? Another Starbucks?"
Megadeth's Roadrunner debut, United Abominations comes out later this year. You can catch Megadeth this fall on Gigantour.

No Gods Of Metal Festival This Year?
announced that the promoters of The Gods Of Metal have reported that, due to financial constraints placed upon their company, the festival may not take place in 2007.
As a result, they will not honor their original agreement made with Magic Circle Management for what would be MANOWAR's 4th headlining appearance, bringing with them RHAPSODY OF FIRE as special guests and the Italian debut of HOLYHELL. As a side note,
MANOWAR holds the record of headlining the Gods Of Metal Festival more times than any other band. MANOWAR and Magic Circle Music would like to clarify that they are in no way responsible for the cancellation of next years MANOWAR's performance.
MANOWAR bassist Joey DeMaio says, "We wanted to inform fans as soon as possible so that they would not purchase tickets expecting to see MANOWAR perform at the festival. The promoters have, in the past, been known as men of honor and our trust in them went so far as to allow them exclusively to announce our appearance for 2007. We as a band understand that our Italian fans will surely be disappointed, but make no mistake about it. This was not our decision. We too are disappointed. We have been preparing a very special show just for our Italian fans and we will now seek every opportunity to bring this massive show to Italy. We will never let our fans down."
