Heavy Metal Concert Closed By City Officials
The Associated Press reports that the organizer behind a seven-band heavy metal concert said he was forced to cancel the event after city officials made a last-minute change to his contract.
The concert was to have taken place Aug. 16 at the city's 450-person-capacity Community Theatre in Whittier, California. But after the city produced the new contract Wednesday, its cost tripled, Dave Valles said.
Valles said city officials created unreasonable barriers to block his event because they don't like heavy metal. Officials portrayed the teenage members of local bands set to play at the concert as "bloodthirsty animals," said Valles.
Assistant City Manager Nancy Mendez denied the city was biased against heavy metal.
She said officials took a "closer look" at the contract after reading disturbing messages about the event on networking Web site MySpace.com.
"There were some references to blood and violence," she said. "Even though that was just talk, and probably no fault of the promoter, it did stiffen some of our requirements."

That's why you don't have a show at a public venue. Next they will try to have a death metal show in a shopping mall.
Try playing in a real city where there are metal and punk clubs with all their permits set up long before.

Hey DrunkIrishMetal and MetalHead19892 you realize that if metal didn't have myspace a ton of these badns probably wouldn't be as big as they are. MySpace is huge for any genre. Right now, besides playing shows and touring, MySpace is the best and cheapest way to promote. Every band that I know of that's still around, and some that aren't, are on myspace. Some people go to myspace just to find bands so that's bullsh** if you think that it's not helpful. And yes it is habit forming and unfortunately addicting but who cares? Has nothing to do with bands being on myspace.

That's bullsh!t. They just got freaked out with all these things happening at concerts (the beating of that guy at Family values, and that girl getting raped at Ozzfest). They don't want this kind of thing happening in their good city.
