Tesseract Reveals New Album Details

Five years since the release of Sonder, UK prog-metal titans Tesseract have returned with their new album "War Of Being," to be released 15th September via Kscope. The Dream has crash-landed, and 'ex' and 'el' awaken to find themselves in "The Strangeland," facing a foe known simply as "Fear." The two are separated, and so begins the journey of War Of Being...

"War Of Being," the first single to be released from the album of the same name, is an eleven-minute visual extravaganza and provides the perfect prologue for the album’s aurally and visually immersive story. Written and directed by Found Format with 2nd Unit Director Richard Oakes / Dark Fable Media (Sleep Token) - the feature length video proves that Tesseract remains not only pioneers but innovators in a movement of their own making. Be sure to wait until the very end of the clip for the next piece of the puzzle to be revealed...

TesseracT bassist Amos Williams states:

"'War Of Being' has been all encompassing for us since late 2019. After I returned home from filming P O R T A L S I found myself in such a deeply introspective headspace. The scale of work and reward from that project kind of set this up to be inevitable. We simply had to try and see how far we could take a concept album with Tesseract.

"Within these songs the band has given life to the themes and ideas that are personified within the characters of 'The Strangeland' story. It’s certainly been a catharsis and a way for me to explore the internal dissonance."

Regarding the track, Daniel Tompkins, the band’s vocalist, had the following to say:

"'War Of Being' is a fight for acceptance, a battle of existence and a resistance against ego. It’s a struggle for control as we cut through the white noise of reality. It’s the need to know and identify with oneself, to accept and understand what we stand for and who we are. There is an urgent need to ‘Tear the mask away’ and reveal your true self." More...

Robse Signs With Reaper Entertainment

Robert "Robse" Dahn was the frontman of the epic metal formation Equilibrium for 13 years. When the metal-crazy singer wasn't traveling the world with his band, he was involved in countless projects as a guest musician or idea generator, and could always be found off-stage at all the festivals.

After the separation with Equilibrium in the fall of 2022, Robse finally found the time to continue working on his solo album, which had been planned for many years but never realized. Together with musician friends he continued to work on existing songs, wrote new songs and dug up long forgotten treasures... as a special bonus, guest appearances by many well-known musicians are planned.

Robse has now signed a worldwide record deal with Reaper Entertainment.

He comments:
"Everything to the beginning! With my band Robse, everything is about friendship - not only in the choice of my fellow musicians, but also in the record deal. So I didn't have to think about it for a second and knew that for this new start only the collaboration with my longtime friend Flori would come into question. I am happy that we are also going this way together and that I can count him to the Robse family. Let's revive the spirit of old days with bombast, fun and hard guitar riffs!"

Flori from Reaper Entertainment adds:
"When Robse and I met on the Erdentempel campaign about 10 years ago, the chemistry between us was instant. After we were done working, we sat in camping chairs until the wee hours of the morning, drank beer from his trunk, and had completely pointless conversations... it turned into a real friendship over the years. When Robse called me and told me about a solo album, I didn't have to think long. I am very happy that he is now part of the Reaper family."

The as yet untitled solo album is scheduled for release in spring 2024 via Reaper Entertainment.

Devin Townsend Debuts New Live Track

Devin Townsend recently announced the 3rd release in his Devolution series – ‘Empath Live In America’, will be launched on the 4th August 2023. The Devolution series so far has comprised some unique live performances, and this one is no different. ‘Empath Live In America’ is a document of the tour that was cut short in early 2020 due to the onset of the pandemic.

As Devin explains:
"Hello everyone :) continuing in the ‘Devolution’ series of albums (which has been an avenue for us to release cool little curiosities on the side of regular releases) we bring you ‘Devolution #3 - Empath Live In America’.

"This was a very unique tour for me, and one that was regrettably cut short by the pandemic. It was a stripped back version of the ‘Order of Magnitude’ band (without choir and a few other members…), but as i try to do with each tour, the goal was to make this a unique and special night. Therefore, this tour marked a ‘free form’ version of the material. There were no backing tracks, click tracks, or even a setlist, so every night was unique and different. The audience yelled out requests and we just rolled with it. The material was therefore interpreted in unique ways and the experience was a very special ‘fly by the seat of our pants’ musical night.

"It’s a raw and off kilter performance and I’m thrilled to have documented it. Until the next ‘real’ release, I hope you enjoy this rarity from a special, albeit ill-fated tour." More...

Svalbard To Release New Album In October

Today, Svalbard are proud to announce their ardently anticipated new studio album, "The Weight Of The Mask," due out on October 6th via Nuclear Blast Records.

White-hot new single "Faking It" has also been revealed, accompanied by a video. The track lays bare a poignant, candid account of dealing with depression and coming to the realisation that you are "faking it" to just get by.

Svalbard's intention with their music is to make people feel less alone, and to be there for people in their darkest times. "The Weight Of The Mask" bravely lays out experiences of mental illness and depression, hoping to help destigmatise these topics.

Svalbard's Serena Cherry stated;
"If the previous record was about facing your demons, then 'The Weight Of The Mask' is about fighting them with everything you've got. You can literally hear the depression transform into aggression in these songs. 'The Weight Of The Mask' was admittedly a challenging album to make because we cut so deep this time around, it was a painful but ultimately cathartic process. This album is the sound of two years worth of internal darkness boiling away inside and then finally being unleashed.

"'Faking It' is a song about feeling deprived of meaningful human connection due to depression acting like a wall that shuts you off from others. It addresses the ways in which those who suffer with depression can feel guilted into putting on a happy mask. The lyrics are a reflection on happiness as a social obligation and how scarily good you can become at deceiving everyone around you into thinking that you're fine when you're not. With Faking It, we are both acknowledging the pressure for forced positivity, the fear that people won't like you if you're sad and also questioning where the root of this intolerance towards depression lies." Cognitive Releases New Single

New Jersey‘s bone-shattering death metal band, Cognitive, has released a new single today titled "Rot Eternal."

Here‘s what the band has to say about the new track: "'Rot Eternal' was the second song we had written for our upcoming album, and when we did our pre-production recording we kept coming back to the song and saying ’man this is like, REALLY awesome.‘ We ended up tossing the idea around of releasing it as a stand alone single, and eventually went with it.

"The single felt so cool to us with riffs repeating themselves, a gigantic slam in the middle, and the unexpected outro all felt so natural to us. Tying it all up is artwork by Dahmer Art which captures the song's lyrical theme and everyone's favorite topic...ZOMBIES! We hope you all enjoy this stand alone single, and keep an eye out for the new record next year!" More...
