Evile Shares "When Mortal Coils Shed" Music Video
This Friday, July 14, English thrash metal frontrunners Evile will celebrate the release of their brand new, sixth studio album and second Napalm Records release, "The Unknown."
With "The Unknown," the four-piece proves that they are more than just a thrash band, churning out slower tempos with a heavier approach. In addition, melodic vocals meet serious, in-depth lyrical topics – ranging from depression, overcoming loss and recurring nightmares, self-esteem and image, to more personal themes like living with dementia, struggling through the music industry and even the concerns of becoming a new parent.
Their new single, "When Mortal Coils Shed", doubles down on that stirring new side of Evile while showcasing exceptional songwriting with haunting, deep and personal aspects.
Evile frontman OL Drake says: "The third single from The Unknown is ‘When Mortal Coils Shed’. We haven't done a ballad since ‘Tomb’ on the 2013 album Skull, and I only like to do them when it feels right; and this one felt very right. The song grew from the main clean riff and I felt the need to make something out of it. Once the lyrics needed writing, it became apparent that a subject close to me and the band would fit. This song is for everyone who has lost someone close to them and the struggles that come with the acceptance of losing them. Even years after they've left us, they're still missed, and the longing to be back at a time when they were still with us or for them to be back with us now is prevalent in our everyday lives. Enjoy." More...
Restless Spirit To Release New Album In October
Long Island sludge metal trio Restless Spirit have released the video single "Marrow" as the first outtake from their forthcoming third album "Afterimage." The new full-length is scheduled for release on October 6, 2023.
Restless Spirit comments: "The opening track 'Marrow' truly comes from the heart and sets the theme for the entire album", guitarist and singer Paul Aloisio writes. "This song is about watching someone that you love at the end of their life. It's about the bargaining, the pleading, the denial… all those stages of grief. Although the song deals with desperation, it is also an acknowledgement of a bitter truth. We think everyone can relate to this song, because while maybe you haven't had to experience these feelings yet, reality is, eventually you will. I've never had the courage to be so open through my music before, and I won't lie and say that it wasn't terrifying to do so. Yet our hope is that it can resonate with anyone struggling through an experience like this."
In the case of Restless Spirit, the band name says it all, and in more than just one way. Their third album, "Afterimage", embodies the East Coast trio's aim of never wanting to sound exactly like before. Long Island deep-fried guitars meet pounding rhythms and emotionally raw vocals. Where the predecessor "Blood of the Old Gods" (2021) sometimes ushered the listener into twisted complexity, "Afterimage" delivers short, sharp shocks that hit straight home.
Lyrically, "Afterimage" is also born out of a restless spirit. Driven by tragedy and personal loss, singer and guitarist Paul Aloisio has put his heart and soul into the album. Confronted with a choice to deal with his pain in a healthy way or go down a destructive path, the singer and guitarist opted for the former but months later found his words to be prophetic for doing the latter. Deciding that artistry requires honesty, Alosio wanted to share his experience as a message to others in similar situations that they're not alone in their despair. "Afterimage" might well be read as a cautionary tale. More...

Of Virtue Debuts "Sober" Music Video
Today, midwestern metal act Of Virtue have released their brand new single and music video for "Sober," a cautionary tale on substance abuse taken from their upcoming full-length album "Omen," due 29th September via Arising Empire. You can check it out below.
On the new track, the band comment:
"'Sober' is a cautionary tale about the effects that addiction can have not only on the user, but friends, family or anyone that is close to them. It is hitting that “rock bottom” with no where else to go except for finally turning over a new leaf. It can be hard to accept accountability for your actions when it has damaged so many things and make it harder to stop the self destructive behaviour that got you there in the first place."
Delving further into the deep-rooted substance abuse culture, they continue:
"The substance abuse has gotten out of control and you start to see the effects it can have on not only yourself, but the ones you care about. People often distance themselves from those who display toxic behaviours and patterns out of self preservation. The song relays that the user understands this but cannot stop themselves from their own impulses and self destructive behaviours, despite the irreparable damage they are doing. Being sober requires accountability, which is only attained by taking responsibility and accepting the truth and consequences of your actions. In the end, we want to believe that if we simply stop using that all of their problems will go away - but at the same time, using seems to be the only thing that can give comfort since there is no one left to turn to."
