Dead To Fall To Begin Recording New Album
Dead To Fall are heading to Trax East to begin recording the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2004 album "Villainy and Virtue" with producer Eric Rachel. Rachel rejoins the band for round two – their previous collaboration was described in Revolver as, "Full of slab-like guitars and raging vocal growls, this brutish metalcore album will reach out of your speakers, beat you down, and steal your wallet." The great Paul Romano (Mastodon, Godflesh) returns to artwork for the cover – his images for "Villainy and Virtue" were some of the most striking to appear that year, and the band is eager to work with him again. The tentative title for the album is "Death and Rebirth" and singer Jon Hunt has said that it has a lot more classic metal elements than any previous Dead To Fall recordings. Expect the album in April 2006, and don’t miss Dead To Fall on tour in January 2006 with Ion Dissonance, where new songs from the album will be performed. Tour dates will be confirming shortly.
Soilwork Frontman Checks In From Houston
Soilwork frontman, Bjorn "Speed" Strid, has checked in from Houston, TX with the following tour report:
"What's up people!?
"Sitting in a very dark and cold dressing room in Houston at the Meridian. I got very surprised when i got up this morning and felt how cold it was outside... Is it usually as cold as this in Texas?! I know it's going towards the end of november but still... Anyways, still having a lot of fucking fun on this tour, had a day off in New Orleans yesterday.. We saw all the devastation when we drove into the city, boats lying in the middle of the road, fragments of what used to be a peaceful community.. it was scary to see the terrible outcome after Katrina passed by, just 2 months earlier (as you might remember, we were in Memphis that day).. What i could also see was that the city is after all getting back on it's feet again (which of course made us very happy) so we decided to go downtown to support the nightlife and spend some money on barhopping (at least something, right!?) Had a good time down there drinking the all time classic Handgrenade and went to see some awesome livebands.. I hope they will start up the House of Blues soon again so that we can come down again and play some of that swedish metal once again..
Also a big hail to Damien Storm for hanging out with us, had a blast!!
"Other than that not much to say.. A really great tour so far, shitloads of people and great circlepits every night.. Thanks for rocking out people and keep em coming..

Pandemia Part Ways With Guitarist
Czech Republic-based death metallers PANDEMIA have parted ways with guitarist and founding member Alex Marek. The guitarist's official statement on his departure reads as follows:
"Well, nothing strange I guess, there has been many other musicians leaving bands and it just happened that I am one of that kind as well. The reason for me leaving the band is simple — to be free. Years pass and I am getting scared of losing more and more time being attached to the band and its activities, while there is hundreds things I wanna do and feel I must do to keep on evolving as a human being and to feel OK, and it starts to show on my mind and am getting frustrated in some ways. It doesn't mean I am quitting playing death metal, I will always be composing extreme songs and will publish them one way or another, that's actually the thing I am very sure of — never surrender as a death metal warrior. But now it's time to disappear in a way and make some order in my life and take a breath.
"Thanks to all my friends I've made during more than 10 years on the scene, we will surely keep in touch (my personal email is info@demonication.com), and most of all thanks to the surviving PANDEMIA warriors - you will make it HUGE, PANDEMIA must go on and you guys will make it! Keep the flame burning!"

Metal Council Convenes On 'Metal Hand Sign' Abuse
VATNAJÖKULL GLACIER, ICELAND—In an emergency session Tuesday, members of the Supreme Metal Council strongly condemned the increasing use of the metal hand sign in lay society, claiming that its meaning has become perverted by overuse.
Elders of the Supreme Metal Council examine amateur-video evidence of what they are calling "a worrisome trend."
"The metal sign, or 'sign of the goat,' has all but lost its impact as a token of respectful recognition for something truly 'rocking' or 'metal,'" SMC president Terence "Geezer" Butler said. According to Butler, members are upset that their sacred gesture is being used to acknowledge and celebrate "favorable but clearly non-metal events."
Formed in 1972 and comprising 12 of the most revered leaders of the metal community, the council meets annually in its majestic hall atop Vatnajökull, Iceland's largest glacier, to discuss metal affairs. The SMC convened for a special session after Nikki Sixx, Overlord Of Glam Metal Affairs, was sent hard photographic evidence of metal-sign abuse across the nation. Sixx's fellow high priests said they were "shocked," calling it "one of the most serious affronts to metal's integrity since the rise of rap-metal in the late 1990s."

Bolt Thrower Condemn Earache Reissue
British extreme metal pioneers BOLT THROWER have posted the following message on their official web site:
"We would like to make it known that this re-release of 'Realm of Chaos' is by Arseache Records and done without our consent and against our permission.
"They are making money off the back of the new album, 'Those Once Loyal', as they have done previously with the release of 'Who Dares Wins', again released without our consent or permission.
"BOLT THROWER will see no royalties and the money will line the pockets of that lip-licker Digby Pearson [Earache head honcho]. It's a cheap shot, and quite sad to see how low a record company can stoop. Once they were good, now they are nothing. The new cover is not a patch on the original.
"We urge all loyal BOLT THROWER supporters to boycott this product...spread the word!!!!" More...

10 Years Bassist Barely Escapes Gunfight Crossfire
10 Years bassist Lewis Cosby and Sean Danielson of Smily Empty Soul nearly lost their lives in a recent gunfight in Washington, DC this past Sunday, Cosby recounted the events, saying:
"Shawn and I left the bar at 2:15am and were about 5 minutes into our cab ride when we saw 2 men standing with guns drawn. Scared for our lives we ducked down as bullets riddled the back seat of the cab forcing the cab to slam into a parked car. Multiple rounds tore apart the cabs body blowing out tires and shattering the glass. The gun fire and carnage suddenly ended not knowing if we were hit or not, we jumped out of the car and ran across the street to a gas station until the cops got there. When Sean and I went back to the scene with the police, and seeing the all the carnage that was caused we then realized that it wasn't our time.
We never think on our own American soil that we could be victims of such random acts of gunfire, until it happens to you! With all the freedoms and privileges we have as Americans we don't think that we would be faced with this type of violence as kids our own age in third world countries such as Iran, Israel, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc deal with on a daily basis. A bullet shows no discrimination. It only results in one thing, Loss. We need to stop losing and start winning together as one consciousness."
